The University of North Texas (UNT) is a public research university in Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. UNT's main campus is in Denton, Texas, and it also has a satellite campus in Frisco, Texas. It offers 112 bachelor's, 94 master's, and 38 doctoral degree programs. Established in 1890, UNT is one of the largest universities in the United States. In the fall semester of 2023, it achieved a record enrollment of 46,940 students. UNT is the largest university in Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and the third largest university in Texas, following Texas A&M and UT Austin. The University of North Texas consists of 14 colleges and schools, 37 research centers and institutes, the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, and a library system that comprises the university core. UNT is the flagship member of the University of North Texas System, which includes additional universities in Dallas and Fort Worth. The University of North Texas is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) by the U.S. Department of Education. UNT is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity". It is designated an Emerging Research University (ERU) by the State of Texas. In 2023, the state of Texas established the Texas University Fund (TUF) with the purpose of expanding and supporting research initiatives at four Texas universities, including the University of North Texas, with the goal of elevating them to the ranks of the nation's top universities. The Texas University Fund began with an initial funding of $3.9 billion and receives an annual allocation of $100 million as a permanent endowment. The University of North Texas' main campus is located in Denton, Texas, within the expansive Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The main campus spans 900 acres, encompassing the academic district north of I-35E, the Eagle Point athletic district south of I-35E, and Discovery Park. UNT also has a branch campus, UNT at Frisco, which covers 100 acres and was donated by the city of Frisco. Frisco is a suburb in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, it has been the fastest-growing city in the United States over the last decade. The university's athletics teams are the North Texas Mean Green. Its sixteen intercollegiate athletic teams compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. North Texas is a member of the American Athletic Conference. UNT's official school colors are Green and White and its mascot is an Eagle named Scrappy. The Mean Green have won 130 conference championships, including 34 since 2000.

The University of North Texas College of Music, based in Denton, is a comprehensive music school among the largest enrollment of any music institution accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. It developed the first jazz studies program in the nation, and it remains one of the top schools for jazz. As one of thirteen colleges and schools at the University of North Texas, it has been among the largest music institutions of higher learning in North America since the 1940s. North Texas has been a member of the National Association of Schools of Music for 85 years. Since the 1970s, approximately one-third of all North Texas music students have been enrolled at the graduate level. Music at North Texas dates back to the founding of the university in 1890 when Eliza Jane McKissack, its founding director, structured it as a conservatory.

The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a two-year residential early entrance college program serving approximately 375 high school juniors and seniors at the University of North Texas. Students are admitted from every region of the state through a selective admissions process. TAMS is a member of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology.

Lucky Lou's is a bar located in the college town of Denton, Texas. Opened in 1996, Lou's established itself as popular bar in the area. Lou's has three separate bar serving areas, foosball tables, arcade games and pool tables. There is a large outdoor patio area that faces out to the Fry Street area. Lou's had a beer specifically created for it by Franconia Brewing Company called "Lucky 7". The bar has been visited by the ESPN Street Team and hosted the official 2010 playoff berth party for FC Dallas and its players.

The UNT Coliseum is a 9,797-seat multi-purpose arena located in Denton, Texas, United States, built in 1973. While the arena's formal name is the UNT Coliseum, the building is more commonly referred to as the Super Pit, a nickname derived from its proximity to the former home of the Mean Green basketball teams, the Ken Bahnsen Gym, nicknamed the Snake Pit. Most signage inside the stadium uses the Super Pit name; the most prominent usage of the UNT Coliseum name is above a single new set of ticket windows added during 2017 renovations.

On June 27, 2007 the Historic Fry Street area of Denton, Texas was burned down. The area referred to as "Fry Street" is the area between Fry St/Welch St and Oak St/Hickory St. The Tomato, a local pizza place frequented by University of North Texas and Texas Womans University students, was the primary target damaged by the fire but the entire block was demolished by police and firefighters before the next morning. The fire took place the day before the scheduled date for the building's demolition. The area had been at the center of a contentious battle between Save Fry Street and United Equities Inc.

Fouts Field was a stadium at the University of North Texas, located in Denton, Texas. Its primary use from its opening in 1952 until 2010 was as the home field for North Texas Mean Green football. Over its 59-year history, Fouts Field was the college home of players such as Joe Greene, Abner Haynes, Steve Ramsey, and Steve Anderson, who would later gain worldwide fame as pro wrestler Steve Austin.

DATCU Stadium (formerly Apogee Stadium) is a college football stadium located at the north junction of Interstate 35E and Interstate 35W in Denton, Texas. Opened in 2011, it is home to the University of North Texas (UNT) Mean Green football team, which competes in the American Athletic Conference. The facility replaced Fouts Field, where the school's football program had been based since 1952. The stadium was proposed by the University of North Texas System Board of Regents after the 2002 New Orleans Bowl. Designed by HKS, Inc., it was constructed at a cost of $78 million after a student body election in 2008. It was tentatively named "Mean Green Stadium" prior to ResNet provider Apogee purchasing the naming rights in 2011. DATCU Credit Union (DATCU. formerly Denton Area Teachers Credit Union) subsequently purchased naming rights to the facility prior to the 2023 season. The stadium hosted its first major event on September 10, 2011 when the Mean Green lost 48–23 against the University of Houston Cougars. Official home attendance figures for the team's first six seasons at DATCU Stadium averaged 18,563 per game, which is 60% of its capacity of 30,850. The facility includes various amenities, including a press box, luxury boxes, and an alumni pavilion. It also uses environmental technology; it is the first newly built stadium to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification. It can be reached by road, but because of limited parking and traffic congestion on game days, many attendees park on the northeast side of Interstate 35E and cross a pedestrian bridge to reach the stadium. Others use public transportation to reach the facility on game days.

The Mean Green Village is a collection of athletic facilities in Denton, Texas. It is located on the opposite side of Interstate 35 in Texas from the University of North Texas campus at the intersection of Interstate 35 East and West. Since 2002, several buildings have been completed, including athletic department offices, softball and soccer fields, a running track, and a tennis complex. Apogee Stadium, UNT's new football stadium, is located in the Mean Green Village. The stadium seats 30,850 fans and has 24 luxury boxes. It is the nation's first newly built platinum-certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design stadium.

The Denton Community Theatre was a local theatre company located in Denton, Texas in the United States. It serves as one of the oldest community theatres in the North Texas area having been in existence since 1969. It is located at the historic Campus Theatre on West Hickory Street. In 2020, it merged with another local theatre company (Music Theatre of Denton) to form a new company - Theatre Denton. Throughout the Denton community, people, businesses, and educators are working together to better implement the arts into the Northern Texas area. The goal is to develop a more livable community by supporting the growth and more responsive use of artistic and cultural resources that exist in Denton.

The Denton Confederate Soldier Monument was an outdoor Confederate memorial installed in downtown Denton, Texas, in the United States.

The Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square is the former courthouse of Denton County located in the county seat Denton, Texas. The Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square was constructed in 1896. In addition to county offices, the "Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum" also calls it home. The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.The Courthouse is also the final resting place of John B. Denton, the county's and city's namesake. In 1918, a monument to Confederate Soldiers was gifted to Denton by the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and placed on the grounds of the Courthouse-on-the-Square. The monument was titled "Our Confederate Soldiers" and contained separate drinking water fountains at the base, with one side etched "whites" and the other "colored." The monument was removed on June 23, 2020, following decades of protest urging its removal, with the Denton County Commissioners citing the safety of the artifact as the reason for it being removed.
