Cheverly is a side-platformed Washington Metro station in Cheverly, Maryland, United States. The station was opened on November 20, 1978, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Orange Line, the station is the first station going east in Maryland on the Orange Line. The station is in the residential area of Cheverly at Columbia Park Road near U.S. Route 50. It is a commuter station with 530 parking spaces. In 2021, Cheverly had the lowest average weekly ridership of any Metro station.

The population in 1970 was 6,049. The census area dissolved in 1980 and has not been reorganized since. The ZIP code serving the area is 20743.

Fairmount Heights is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 1,528. The town was formally incorporated in 1935, making the town the second oldest African-American-majority municipality in Prince George's County. The town is composed of six subdivisions: Fairmount Heights (1900), Waterford (1907), Mount Weissner (1909), North Fairmount Heights (1910), West Fairmount Heights (1911) and Sylvan Vista (1923).

The Fairmount Heights Historic District encompasses an area of 144 acres (58 ha) in the historic heart of Fairmount Heights, Maryland. The area is notable as one of the first planned African-American communities in the Washington, DC area. Predominantly residential in character, most of its housing stock was built between 1900 and 1960, although there has also been recent development. The district includes the original town hall (built 1908). and the first public school for African-Americans in the county (built 1912). There are also five churches and a community center, all important centers of political activism during the period of segregation.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011; in the listing it is spelled "Fairmont".

Burrville is a neighborhood located in Northeast Washington, D.C., east of the Anacostia River. It is triangular in area, bounded by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the south, Division Avenue to the northwest, and Eastern Avenue to the northeast.

St. Matthew's Church, also known as Addison Chapel, is a historic Episcopal church located at Seat Pleasant, Prince George's County, Maryland. Addison Chapel was first established in 1696 as a chapel of ease for St. John's at Broad Creek. The parish it served was one of the thirty original Maryland parishes and was named for Colonel John Addison, of Oxon Hill plantation, a leading proponent of the Anglican Church. His descendant Walter Dulaney Addison, who was for a term Chaplain of the Senate also served as rector here. It is also associated with the Pinkney, Dulany, Lowndes, and Calvert families. In 1983, the vestry voted to vacate the structure and form Holy Redeemer Episcopal Church in Landover. The chapel was not convenient to where the parishioners lived, and a covenant placed by the Maryland Historical Trust barred the installation of indoor plumbing. The Episcopal Diocese of Washington agreed to continue weekly services for another five years, which ended in 1988.

The Deanwood Neighborhood Library is a branch of the District of Columbia Public Library in the Deanwood neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It is located at 1350 49th Street NE, within a community center that opened in July 2010 at a cost of $32 million and also includes a swimming pool, a gym, and facilities for child care and seniors.Construction on the 63,000-square-foot facility began in December 2008. The library, which occupies 7,500 square feet of the space, has room for 25,000 books. It was designed by Perkins Eastman.Deanwood, one of the city's most historic African American neighborhoods, was previously served by a library kiosk that opened in 1976. The one-room, 120-square-foot structure held a few thousand books but lacked basic services like running water. Though it has not been operational since 2008, the remains of the kiosk can be seen at 4215 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, NE.

Howard Dilworth Woodson High School (known as H. D. Woodson High School, Howard D. Woodson High School, or Woodson High School) is a secondary school in Washington, D.C. that serves grades 9 through 12. It is located in the Northeast Boundary neighborhood, at the intersection of 55th and Eads Streets NE. It is a part of the District of Columbia Public Schools and primarily serves students in Ward 7. The current principal is William Massey.

Deanwood is a neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C., bounded by Eastern Avenue to the northeast, Kenilworth Avenue to the northwest, Division Avenue to the southeast, and Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the south. One of Northeast's oldest neighborhoods, Deanwood's relatively low-density, small wood-frame and brick homes, and dense tree cover give it a small-town character that is unique in the District of Columbia. Much of its housing stock dates from the early 20th century. Several well-known African-American architects, including William Sidney Pittman and Howard D. Woodson, and many skilled local craftsmen designed and built many of its homes. The neighborhood was once home to Nannie Helen Burroughs, an early civil rights leader and the founder of the National Training School for Women and Girls, an independent boarding school for African-American girls founded in 1909 and located on 50th Street, NE. Marvin Gaye (1939–1984) was also born and raised in this neighborhood. From 1921 to 1940, Deanwood was also home to Suburban Gardens (50th and Hayes NE), a black-owned amusement park that served thousands of African-American residents during a time of racial segregation. It is served by the Deanwood Metro station on the Orange Line. The neighborhood is featured prominently in crime author Jim Beane's short story "Jeanette."
