Kampanis

The Battle of Kilkis was an armed conflict between communist resistance organisation ELAS and a coalition of collaborationist Security Battalions, nationalist resistance organisations EDES and the National Greek Army (EES). On 4 November 1944, ELAS captured Kilkis after nine hours of fighting. The nationalists suffered many casualties during the battle and in prisoner killings afterwards.

Fanari (Greek: Φανάρι, old name: Greek: Σερεμετλί Seremetli) is a village south of the City of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 96 people (2011).

Pedino (Greek: Πεδινό) is a village in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece, with a population of 817 inhabitants as per the 2011 National Census. The community Pedino (pop. 839 in 2011) consists of the villages Pedino and Perinthos. There were approx 1400 registered voters in the 2006 local elections. However, many voters reside in the big nearby cities of Kilkis and Thessaloniki and retain their voting rights to the village. The village has a large population of Greek Thracians (Θρακιωτες) from the area of Eastern Thrace, or Eastern Romylia as it also known. A majority emigrated to Pedino from the villages Neo Gennikio, Aivali, Alepli & Koumbourlari, Eastern Thrace. The exact location of the villages in Turkey is not known but they are close to Saranta Ekklisies (Σαράντα Εκκλησίες, Kırklareli in Turkish). The new village was established by refugees, mostly as part of the Population Exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923 Exchange of Greek Orthodox and Muslim Populations, in addition to any refugees fleeing Turkish persecution after the 1922 Greek military campaign in Asia Minor. The village is part of the municipal unit Gallikos along with the villages of Nea Santa, Galliko, Kambani, Mandres and other smaller villages. Pedino was built in the location of the old village of Hasanova or Hasan Obasi [1]. The Economy of the village until the 1970s was agricultural, mainly production of wheat and barley. In the last 20–30 years the village has seen growth in other less traditional industries. There is a primary school serving approximately 80 children.

Peristeri (Greek: Περιστέρι, old name: Greek: Τσοκαλή Tsokali / Chokalova) is a village south of the City of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 150 people (2011).

Laodikino (Greek: Λαοδικηνό, old name: Greek: Τζεβαλί Tzevali) is a village South of the City of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 186 people (2011).

Chrysopetra (Greek: Xρυσόπετρα, meaning "golden rock") is a village and a community south of the city of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. Chrysopetra is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 113 people (2011). The community Chrysopetra (pop. 708 in 2011) consists of the villages Chrysopetra, Fanari, Laodikino, Peristeri and Pyrgotos.

Panteleimon (Greek: Παντελεήμων, old name: Greek: Κάτω Βολοβότ Nea Santa) is a village south of the city of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, in northern Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 451 people (2011).

Perinthos (Greek: Πέρινθος, old name: Greek: Καβακλή Kavakli) is a small village in the community Pedino, in the municipal unit Gallikos, Kilkis regional unit, Greece. The first residents moved there in 1923 from Asia Minor after the Asia Minor destruction in land plots that were allocated by EAP. Most of the residents originate from the wider region of Raidestos in Eastern Thrace. The village became the theatre of military conflict during the duration of the Greek civil war, while in the post-war season it accommodated a high of 70 families. The residents were mostly farmers and livestock dealers. The village had a small school (not working) and a church (Holly Cross church) that dates from 1939. In the early 1950s the village depopulated rapidly due to rising unemployment and increased urbanism to Thessaloniki and other smaller cities. Eventually the village was abandoned. However, after 15 years the first family moved back into the village and some old residents built holiday homes or took care of the older houses. Today the village has 15-20 homes, however most residents do not live there permanently. It has a cultural association since 1991 and each year on the 13 September it celebrates its church name (Greek: πανηγύρι), as customary in Greece.

Gallikos (Greek: Γαλλικός Κιλκίς, Bulgarian: Саламаново) is a village south of the city of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 969 people (2011).

Mandres (Greek: Μάνδρες, Bulgarian: Хамбаркьой) is a village South of the City of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 475 people (2011). Until 1926, Mandres was known as Ampar Kioi (Greek: Αμπάρ Κιόι). The name was also written as Ambar Köy.

Pyrgotos (Greek: Πυργωτό, old name: Greek: Κιουλελή Kyuleli / Külahli) is a village south of the City of Kilkis in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit Gallikos and has a population of 163 people (2011).

Kilkis (Greek: Κιλκίς) is a city in Central Macedonia, Greece. As of 2011 there were 22,914 people living in the city proper, 28,745 people living in the municipal unit, and 51,926 in the municipality of Kilkis. It is also the capital city of the regional unit of Kilkis. The area of Kilkis, during the 20th century, became several times a war theatre; during the Macedonian Struggle, the Balkan Wars, WWI, WWII, the Greek Resistance and the Greek civil war.
