Knife River (Lake Superior)

Knife River is an unincorporated community in Lake County, Minnesota, United States; located on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The community is located between Duluth and Two Harbors on the North Shore Scenic Drive (County 61), at the mouth of the Knife River, from which it gets its name. Knife River is located 8 miles southwest of the city of Two Harbors. The boundary line between Lake and Saint Louis counties is nearby. Knife River is located within Lake No. 2 Unorganized Territory of Lake County.

The Niagara was a large wooden tugboat that sank on June 4, 1904 on Lake Superior near the town of Duluth, Minnesota, Lake County, Minnesota after running aground near Knife River. On April 14, 1994 the wreck of the Niagara was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Duluth Township is a township in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,941 at the 2010 census.The township is located on the North Shore of Lake Superior. North Shore Scenic Drive (County Road 61), the Minnesota 61 Expressway (MN 61), and Homestead Road (County Road 42) are three of the main routes in the township. McQuade Road runs north–south along Duluth Township's western boundary line with adjacent Lakewood and Normanna Townships. Clover Valley is an unincorporated community in Duluth Township, Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The community is 20 miles (32 km) northeast of the city of Duluth, near the junction of County Road 42 (Homestead Road) and W. Knife River Road, and 10 miles (16 km) west-southwest of the city of Two Harbors. The center of Clover Valley is near the intersection of Homestead Road and Hegberg Road. The community is five miles inland from Lake Superior's North Shore on Homestead Road. The communities of Knife River, Palmers, and French River are nearby.

SS Onoko was an iron hulled Great Lakes freighter. She was launched in 1882 in Cleveland, Ohio as hull number #4, and sank on September 14, 1915 in Lake Superior near Knife River, Minnesota. Onoko is thought to be the prototype for every single steel hulled Great Lakes Bulk carrier that ever sailed. These vessels made possible the cheap transport of bulk cargoes such as iron ore, coal and limestone. Her wreckage still remains on the bottom of Lake Superior and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Alden Township ( AWL-dən) is a township in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 213 at the 2010 census.Saint Louis County Road 266 (Fox Farm Road), Laine Road, Rossini Road, and Two Harbors Road pass through the township.
