S. H. Kress and Co. Building (Columbia, Missouri)

The Central Dairy Building, also known as Downtown Appliance and Gunther's Games, is a historic commercial building located in downtown Columbia, Missouri. It was built in 1927, and enlarged to its present size in 1940. It is a two-story brick building with terra cotta ornamentation elaborate classical and baroque design motifs. Also on the property is a contributing brick warehouse, constructed about 1940.: 5  Today the building houses an appliance store and restaurants on the first floor and lofts on the second. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Ragtag Cinema is a non-profit independent movie theater located on Hitt Street in Columbia, Missouri. The theater was founded by a group including Paul Sturtz and David Wilson in May 2000. The theater is the home of the Ragtag Film Society, a nonprofit organization which strives to champion film and other media arts to stimulate and encourage the culture of the community. It does so by spotlighting film as an art form, promoting media literacy, education and new ideas as well as supporting local artists. The theater also serves as a primary venue for the True/False Film Fest, which was launched by Sturtz and Wilson in 2004. The first location, in a small storefront on 10th Street, featured couches and chairs to accommodate up to 75 guests for its one screen. The theater moved to its present location a few blocks away in 2009. Several other small businesses are housed at the same address, including Uprise Bakery and Hitt Records.

The Coca-Cola Bottling Company Building, also known as the Kelly Press Building, is a historic commercial building located on Hitt Street in downtown Columbia, Missouri. It was built in 1935, and is a 1 1/2-story, Colonial Revival style brick building with a side gable roof with three dormers. It has a long one-story rear ell.: 5  Today it houses Uprise Bakery, Ragtag Cinema (an independent theatre and staple of Columbia's cultural scene), Ninth Street Video, and Hitt Records.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The First Christian Church is a historic Disciples of Christ church located at 101 North Tenth Street in Columbia, Missouri. It was designed by T.N. Bell of Chicago, Illinois and built in 1893. It has a Richardsonian Romanesque style Sanctuary that includes a square bell tower, horizontal massing with contrasting high gables, round arches, heavy and highly textured stone work, and voussoir arches. The Education Building was designed by Eugene Groves and added in 1929. This is the second church building to stand at this site. The building is still a functioning church today. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. It is located in the North Village Arts District.

The McCain Furniture Store Building is a historic commercial building located in downtown Columbia, Missouri. It was built about 1930 for the S. H. Kress & Co., and remodeled in 1951. It is a two-story, brick building with a simple stepped parapet.: 5  Though it has hosted a variety of businesses since the closing of the original store, today it holds Plasma Biological Services. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. It is located in the North Village Arts District.

Columbia station is a historic train station and headquarters of Columbia Transit located in Columbia, Missouri. The building was constructed in 1909 as the terminus of the Columbia Branch of the Wabash Railroad (now Columbia Terminal Railroad). It is a one-story, H plan, Tudor Revival style building constructed of locally quarried rock faced ashlar cut stone. In 2007, the building underwent renovation and restoration and was expanded to accommodate offices for Columbia's public transportation. The project, costing over $2.5 million, was intended to make the station a multi-model transportation center. It was certified at the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Level, meaning it meets national standards for energy efficiency and sustainable construction. The station is the busiest bus stop in Columbia and served as a pickup point for Megabus until September of 2015.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as the Wabash Railroad Station and Freight House. It is located in the North Village Arts District.

The North Village Arts District is a neighborhood and arts district in Columbia, Missouri. It is located on the northeast side of Downtown Columbia, and is the city's main art gallery district and center for the visual arts. The neighborhood is also home to restaurants, bars, food trucks, housewares shops, theaters, and a distillery. Rose Music Hall, a popular music venue, is located on Park Avenue. There are several dance studios, including the Missouri Contemporary Ballet. The district hosts a monthly art crawl called "First Fridays".Wabash Station, a restored railroad station, is the headquarters and central hub of Columbia Public Transit. The station previously served the Columbia Terminal Railroad, which brought passengers and goods into Columbia throughout the 1900s. The railroad was the primary cause of the neighborhood's original industrial nature. Today, many of the district's businesses are located in renovated warehouses and industrial buildings. A former gas manufacturing site, now owned by Ameren, may be turned into public green space.Several buildings in the neighborhood are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including Wabash Station, the Boone County Courthouse, Columbia National Guard Armory, Elkins House, First Christian Church, and McCain Furniture Store. Two National Historic Districts are partially within the neighborhood: the Downtown Columbia Historic District, and the North Ninth Street Historic District. The district is adjacent to Stephens College and Columbia College.

First Baptist Church is a historic Baptist church in Columbia, Missouri. In 1823, at the time of its founding, it was the first and only church in Columbia. The Church and its members have played a prominent role in civic and religious affairs in Missouri. The church's Georgian Revival style sanctuary sits conspicuously on Broadway in Downtown Columbia; it is the fourth church building and second at that location. Stephens College, formerly a baptist institution founded by church members, is across the street. First Baptist has both a traditional and contemporary Sunday services, and formerly hosted a Swahili-language congregation. The church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA. In 2001, the congregation joined the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and its longtime affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention was ended. In 2004, the Odyssey Chamber Music Series was founded as part of a community outreach effort. In addition, the Plowman Chamber Music Competition, Columbia Handbell Ensemble, Esterhazy Quartet, and the University of Missouri School of Music utilize the sanctuary as a performance venue. William Jewell, namesake of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, has been described as the leading force behind the creation of the church. The first meeting took place in the home of Charles Hardin, father of Charles Henry Hardin governor of Missouri.

The North Ninth Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Downtown Columbia, Missouri, USA. It encompasses seven contributing buildings in an area that has historically been a center of commerce, recreation and culture. They were built between about 1885 and 1954, and are the L.J. Slate Billiard Hall (c. 1913), Allen Arnold Building (c. 1894), A. Victor Building (c. 1894), Lafayette Hume Building (c. 1885), Varsity Theatre (1927), Crosswhite Bakery (c. 1918), and Hume Building (c. 1904). The popular music venue The Blue Note is located within the district.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Downtown Columbia is the central business, government, and social core of Columbia, Missouri and the Columbia Metropolitan Area. Three colleges — the University of Missouri, Stephens College, and Columbia College — all border the area. Downtown Columbia is an area of approximately one square mile surrounded by the University of Missouri on the south, Stephens College to the east, and Columbia College on the north. The area serves as Columbia's financial and business district and is the topic of a large initiative to draw tourism, which includes plans to capitalize on the area's historic architecture and Bohemian characteristics. The downtown skyline is relatively low and is dominated by the 10-story Tiger Hotel, built in 1928, and the 15-story Paquin Tower.Downtown Columbia Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, covers much of the downtown area. This historic district was created in 2006, following the removal of concrete awnings. It was expanded in 2008.On the northeast side of Downtown is the North Village Arts District. The Flat Branch of Hinkson Creek runs through downtown. Peace Park is located on Elm Street.

The Blue Note is a music venue in Columbia, Missouri, and is a contributing property to the North Ninth Street Historic District. It was established in 1980 by Richard King and Phil Costello. It is famous for the legal case Bensusan Restaurant Corp. v. King over naming use on the internet. The original Blue Note was located at 912 Business Loop 70 East and moved to its Ninth Street location (a restored vaudeville theater) in the early 1990s. In October 2014, the venue was sold to Matt Gerding and Scott Leslie.Despite being a smaller venue, it has hosted numerous national musical acts, including Phish, Widespread Panic, R.E.M., Hüsker Dü (their last show), Uncle Tupelo, Meat Puppets, Chuck Berry, The Replacements, The Minutemen, Dinosaur Jr., Primus, Black Flag, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Violent Femmes, Soul Asylum, The Black Keys, Dave Matthews Band, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Wilco and Arctic Monkeys, and holds a five-part concert series every summer called "Ninth Street Summerfest".
