Wincanton was a rural district in Somerset, England, from 1894 to 1974. It was created in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894. In 1974 it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 when it became part of South Somerset. The parishes which were part of the district included Abbas Combe, Alford, Ansford, Blackford, Bratton Seymour, Brewham, Bruton, Castle Cary, Charlton Horethorne, Charlton Musgrove, Compton Pauncefoot, Corton Denham, Cucklington, Henstridge, Holton, Horsington, Lovington, Maperton, Milborne Port, North Barrow, North Brewham, North Cadbury, North Cheriton, Penselwood, Pitcombe, Queen Camel, Shepton Montague, South Barrow, South Brewham, South Cadbury, Sparkford, Stoke Trister, Stowell, Sutton Montis, Weston Bampfylde, Wheathill, Wincanton and Yarlington.

Wincanton ( or ) is a town and electoral ward in South Somerset, southwest England. The town lies off the A303 road, a main route between London and South West England, and has some light industry. The town and electoral ward has a population of 5,272.

The Wincanton Skirmish occurred on 20 November 1688 during the Glorious Revolution. A small patrol of the Royal Army led by the Irish officer Patrick Sarsfield, clashed with a detachment of the invading Dutch Army in the town of Wincanton in Somerset. It was one of the few notable actions fought during the campaign which has sometimes acquired the name the "bloodless revolution".

Wincanton Town Hall is a municipal building in the Market Place in Wincanton, a town in Somerset in England. The building, which currently accommodates the offices and meeting place of Wincanton Town Council and also operates as a community centre, is a Grade II listed building.

The Anglican Church of St Peter and St Paul in Wincanton within the English county of Somerset is a Grade II* listed building. The Church of St Peter and St Paul was almost totally rebuilt 1887-91 by J. D. Sedding, however parts of the tower may be remnants form an earlier church, dating from 1313, on the same site.

Wincanton railway station was a station in the county of Somerset, in England. It was located on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Sited on a double line stretch of the S&D, the station had two platforms with a station building. A goods yard, controlled from a signal box on platform one, gave access to sidings for the use of the horses from the local racecourse. The Cow & Gate creamery and dairy products factory had its own sidings, providing access for milk trains.

Wincanton Town Football Club is a football club based in Wincanton, Somerset, England. They are currently members of the Western League Division One and play at the Wincanton Sports Ground. The club is affiliated to the Somerset County Football Association.

The Anglican Church of St Stephen in Charlton Musgrove in the English county of Somerset was built in the 13th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.The church was associated with Bruton Priory in the 12th century. Members of the Leir family have been rectors from 1661 until 1976. The Victorian restoration in 1884 caused conflict as the rector Charles Edward Lier has not obtained the relevant permissions from the bishop.The stone building has slate roofs. It consists of a three bay nave and two bay chancel with a three-stage west tower which houses three bells and is decorated with hunky punks and gargoyles. Inside the church are an octagonal font dating from the 17th century and a hatchment from 1660.The parish is part of the benefice of Charlton Musgrove, Cucklington and Stoke Trister within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

King Arthur's School is a smaller than average secondary school in Wincanton, Somerset, England. It had 350 students between the ages of 11 and 16 in 2017. Before April 2019 it was called King Arthur's Community School.

Wincanton Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Wincanton, Somerset, England. The steeplechase fences are large, making it a good test of a chaser. Three fences in quick succession in the second half of the home-straight make for exciting racing and often change the complexion of a finish dramatically; resulting in a great many close finishes.The track stages several big races, including the Kingwell Hurdle in February. The CGA Chase (previously the Jim Ford Challenge Cup, last run in 2012) was run on the same day; these races were significant trials for the Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup respectively. Several of the races at the course were shown on Channel 4 and are now occasionally shown on ITV.The track is located near to the yard of the trainer, Paul Nicholls and as such many of his young horses run here.
