The Real World: Cancun is the twenty-second season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. It is the only season of The Real World to be filmed in Mexico. The season featured eight people who lived in a hotel converted into a suite. It is the fourth season of The Real World to be set outside the United States, after The Real World: London in 1995, The Real World: Paris in 2003, and The Real World: Sydney in 2007. Series co-creator Jonathan Murray explained the choice of Cancun, saying, "Cancun is a good one to do after Brooklyn, which was a more gritty environment."Primary production started from January 26 to April 2009 and was not affected by the swine flu outbreak in Mexico. Executive Producer Jim Johnston said, "We had stopped production before this thing reared its ugly head." Consisting of 12 episodes, the season premiered June 24 of that year and was viewed by 1.4 million viewers, the smallest debut ever for a season of The Real World at the time. The American synthpop band LMFAO has a guest appearance in Episode 7, which ties into the cast's work assignment. The show's theme, heard during the opening titles, is called "Sex on the Beach" and performed by 3OH!3.Bunim-Murray Productions also shot an unscripted 2003 movie called The Real Cancun, although it was unrelated to the series. This season's suite was used by the cast of The Real World: Las Vegas (2011) for their season vacation.

The Golden Parnassus Resort and Spa is a hotel in Cancún, Mexico. The Golden Parnassus drew national media attention in Canada when, on April 16, 2009, it used physical force to prevent a group of 28 Canadian customers from leaving its premises, claiming that their bills had not been paid. The hotel also threatened to call police. Guests have reported having their luggage and passports taken away and being told they could not get them back unless they paid thousands of dollars.The customers had booked their stays at the hotel through Conquest Vacations, Inc., a Canadian company which suddenly shut its doors after reportedly not having paid its creditors for a month. The customers had used vouchers from Conquest as payment at check-in.The Toronto Star reports that customers of another resort who found themselves in a similar predicament were told by Mexico's Tourist Bureau in Toronto that hotels that had accepted vouchers from Conquest as payment at check-in were not entitled to demand payment a second time. The Star also quotes a representative of the Mexico Consumer Protection Bureau as saying that hotels may not legally retain customers' identification, such as passports.

El Rey is an archaeological site of the pre-Columbian Mayan culture, located in the southeast of Mexico, in the tourist resort of Cancun, in the state of Quintana Roo.

The 2010 CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying was the eighth edition of the CONCACAF W Championship, the quadrennial international women's football championship contested by the senior women's national teams of the member associations of CONCACAF, the regional governing body of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Serving as the region's 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifiers, it was played by eight teams from 28 October to 8 November 2010 in Cancún, Mexico. For the second time in its history, it was won by Canada. The United States, Canada and Mexico received byes into the tournament after taking the top three positions in the 2006 Gold Cup, while five other spots were determined through regional qualification. Canada and Mexico, by virtue of their semi-final wins, qualified automatically for the 2011 Women's World Cup, while third-place USA advanced to a play-off against Italy for a further finals berth. Also, Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago qualified at the 2011 Pan American Games. Canada won the tournament with a 1–0 win over Mexico in the Final. Just like during their 1998 CONCACAF Women's Championship win, Canada did not concede a single goal against in the entire tournament. They scored 17 goals, while allowing none, to win their second CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifier. Contrasting Canada's success, the USA's semifinal loss to Mexico marked the first time ever that the USA did not win a World Cup qualifying match. It was also the second time that the USA failed to appear in a CONCACAF final match, though only because they did not participate in the 1998 Championship.

Puerto Cancún is a 800-acre upscale development in Cancún next to the ocean that contains a marina, private canals, a shopping mall, an IMAX theater, a golf course, hotels, condominiums, and spaces for retail businesses. The multimillion-dollar development project was originated as a partnership between Fonatur, Mexico's National Trust Fund for Tourism Development, and Michael Eugene Kelly, the CEO, president and principal promoter who had been convicted of a Ponzi scheme. It had been advertised in 2010 as a continuing development and gated community offering luxury and security.The Puerto Cancún development was designed by the EDSA and Humberto Artigas as a master planned resort community with a variety of living options. Guests can vacation at the resort for short term stays at the hotels, purchase a time-share, or buy a their own residence, with the option of purchasing a building lot to build a home to their own specifications. The development provides a variety of amenities for guests and homeowners, including a golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf, a 270-acre ecological reserve, a full-service marina, a club house with a spa, family areas, adult and children’s pools, and full beach access. Due to ongoing construction, not all amenities may be available at this time.

Centro Educativo Monteverde is a private school in Cancún, Mexico. It serves preschool through high school (preparatoria).Cecilia Alcántara founded the school in the northern hemisphere summer of 1996. The first school building was constructed at Av. Kohunlich in Super Manzana 46 during the summer of 1997. Construction of the current campus on Av. Bonampak, Super Manzana 10B, began as of the 2001/2002 school year.

Plaza Las Américas in Cancún, Quintana Roo state, Mexico opened in 2005 is the largest shopping center in Cancún. It now includes residential towers Torres de las Américas atop a second shopping area Malecón Américas.Anchors include 2 Liverpool department stores (fashion and home stores), Sears, Chedraui hypermarket, Cinépolis, Fiesta Inn hotel, Coppel junior department store, and Sanborns junior department store and restaurant. There is also an iShopMixup - twin electronics and music stores.

The Polifórum Benito Juárez a 5,800-seat indoor arena in Cancún, Quintana Roo, was built in just 128 days in 2008. It was built as the home of the Pioneros de Quintana Roo basketball team. The arena was built of reinforced concrete in order to withstand hurricanes that may come through the Yucatán Peninsula. It can also serve a shelter in case of a natural disaster. In addition to serving as home of the Pioneros and as a shelter for natural disasters, the Polifórum is also used for concerts, other sporting events, and other special events. It is also unusual in that its center-hung scoreboard does not include video screens, a must for most new arenas in the 21st century. There are 2,200 permanent seats. The arena cost 98 million pesos to build. The arena can seat up to 6,000 for concerts. The arena's lighting equipment was installed especially for large-scale TV transmission. Additionally, the Poliforum has all of the comforts of a gymnasium and, among its qualities, is equipped with four dressing rooms for teams participating in any tournament and recording artists who are performing live in concert.

It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative session by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the third region. The third district was created as part of the 2005 redistricting process and was first contested in the 2006 general election.

Puerto Juárez is a district in the Benito Juárez municipality, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It is in the north-east of the Yucatán Peninsula, on the shore of the Caribbean Sea, 2 km (1.25 mi) north from the center of Cancún. Puerto Juárez was the primary location of the original population of the area before the founding of the city of Cancún, and was a separate location from 1960 until 1990 when it was abolished as such and incorporated as one of Cancún's districts.

Estadio de Béisbol Beto Ávila is a stadium in Cancún, Mexico. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Quintana Roo Tigres Mexican League baseball team. It has a capacity of 9,785 people. It is named to honor Beto Ávila the former Mexican major league baseball (known as Bobby Avila in the U. S.) most remembered for his years with the Cleveland Indians (1949–58) where he won the American League batting title in 1954 with an average of .341, and where he was selected to the AL All Star Team in 1952, '54, and '55. After splitting time with the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, and Milwaukee Braves in 1959, his last year of active play (1960) was with the Tigres del México. In the 1980s the park, originally with a capacity of 4,500 was the homefield of the Marlins de Cancún. It became an LMB park in 1996 when the Langosteros de Quintana Roo (Quintana Roo Lobstermen) were promoted to that league. The park was expanded to seat 7,000. However, after the Lobstermen left Cancún the stadium was heavily damaged by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005. In 2006 renovations were undertaken to rebuild and expand the stadium and draw an LMB team back to Cancún. After the 28 million peso renovation the Tigres played the 2007 season with Beto Ávila as their homefield.
