The National Archaeological Museum of Ferrara is housed in Palazzo Costabili, in Ferrara, Italy. It holds various excavated artifacts from the Etruscan city of Spina, which flourished between the 6th and 3rd centuries BC. The ancient city of Spina, close to modern Comacchio was abandoned in the 2nd century BC, but was discovered by chance in 1922 and was excavated.The exhibition is organized into two parts. The ground floor holds items related to the city of Spina and the daily activities there. A special section is dedicated to religious life of the city, manifested by epigraphic evidence. The ground floor also holds two monohull boats (commonly referred to as pirogues) recovered in 1948 in the Isola Valley. The boats date back to the late Roman period (III-IV century BC).On the upper floor, items found in the city necropolis are exhibited along with a chronological criteria. These include kraters, amphorae etc. produced by Athenian artists of the 5th and 4th centuries BC. The paintings represent mythological scenes and everyday life, and indicate the spread of Greek art in the Etruscan sphere. Other ceramics, mainly from the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, come from Magna Graecia and Sicily. In addition, jewels in gold, silver, amber and semiprecious stones, made by ancient the artisans of the Po and Central Italian Etruria are displayed.

Sant'Antonio in Polesine is a Catholic monastic complex of the nuns of the Order of Saint Benedict located in Ferrara, Italy and dedicated to Anthony the Great. Administratively, it is part of the deanery of Ferrara, part of the Archdiocese of Ferrara-Comacchio.

The 1570 Ferrara earthquake struck the Italian city of Ferrara on November 16 and 17, 1570. After the initial shocks, a sequence of aftershocks continued for four years, with over 2,000 in the period from November 1570 to February 1571.The same area was struck, centuries later, by another major earthquake of comparable intensity. The disaster destroyed half the city, permanently marked many of the buildings left standing, and directly contributed to – but was not the sole cause of – a long-term decline of the city lasting until the 19th century. The earthquake caused the first documented episode of soil liquefaction in the Po Valley, and one of the oldest occurrences of the event known outside of paleoseismology. It led to the establishment of an earthquake observatory which published to very high regard, and the drafting of some of the first-known building designs based on a scientific seismic-resistant approach.

Santa Maria in Vado is a church located on Via Borgovado number 3 in Ferrara, Region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

The oratorio dell'Annunziata (Oratory of the Virgin of the Annunciation), once called the Oratory of Sant'Apollinare or the Oratory of the Compagnia delle Morte, is found in via Borgo di Sotto 49 in Ferrara. The small church or oratory has a simple facade, designed by Giovanni Battista Aleotti, but the interior is elegantly decorated with majestic frescoes depicting the Story of the Cross by Camillo Filippi, il Bastianino, Niccolò Roselli and il Dielaì. A fresco of the Resurrection (15th century) is from the school of Pisanello.

Palazzo Schifanoia is a Renaissance palace in Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna (Italy) built for the Este family. The name "Schifanoia" is thought to originate from "schivar la noia" meaning literally to "escape from boredom" which describes accurately the original intention of the palazzo and the other villas in close proximity where the Este court relaxed. The highlights of its decorations are the allegorical frescoes with details in tempera by or after Francesco del Cossa and Cosmè Tura, executed ca 1469–70, a unique survival of their time. This palace forms part of a catalogue of pleasure palaces for the Este family, including the following: Delizia di Belriguardo a Voghiera Delizia del Verginese a Portomaggiore Castello di Mesola a Mesola Villa della Mensa a Sabbioncello San Vittore Delizia di Benvignante ad Argenta, ItalyThe Palace of Belfiore which once held the Studiolo of the Palazzo Belfiore, no longer exists.

The Ferrara Ghetto was established by an edict of Cardinal Cennini dated 23 August 1624, in one of the oldest areas of the city, a short distance from the Cathedral of San Giorgio (Ferrara) and the Castello Estense. It was permanently closed in 1859.

The Palazzo Bonacossi is a Renaissance architecture palace located on Via Cisterna del Follo #5 in Ferrara, Italy. The 15th-century palace is the home of the Musei Civici di Arte Antica e Museo Riminaldi.

The Corpus Domini Monastery is a monastery at 4 via Pergolato in Ferrara. It first was founded as a house of penitent women, and became a Poor Clares Observant Franciscan convent in 1431. It was the home of Caterina Vigri (St. Catherine of Bologna) from 1431 to 1456. She served as the mistress of novices, teaching about 100 women to become pious nuns. She was also an artist who illuminated her own breviary and is said to have decorated the walls of the convent with images of the Christ Child. These were lost or destroyed in a fire in 1667. The public church was redecorated in the late-Baroque period. On its high altar is Communion of the Apostles by Giambettino Cignaroli (1768), whilst the church's ceiling fresco Glory of Saint Catherina Vegri is by Giuseppe Ghedini (1770–1773). The house is still a monastery; a community of Franciscan nuns, called Poor Clares after S. Clare their founder and companion to S. Francis. One of their abbesses was the daughter of Lucrezia Borgia, Leonara d'Este. She is now recognised as one of the earliest writers of polyphonic choral music for women.

The Prospettiva di Corso Giovecca, also called commonly Arcoche, is a scenic and decorative arch located at the end of Corso Giovecca, in Ferrara, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The brick arch was designed by Francesco Mazzarelli and built during 1703–04. Originally, the structure was composed of three arches decorated with marble heraldic shields. Two further flanking narrow openings were added in the 20th century with the widening of the road. Previously the arches were surmounted by decorative spires; these were removed after the 2012 earthquake.

The Palazzina Marfisa d'Este is a Renaissance-style small palace, once suburban, and sometimes referred to as a villa, located on Corso Giovecca #170, just east of Central Ferrara, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. It was constructed in 1559 by the peripatetic Francesco d'Este, and inherited by his daughter, Marfisa in 1578.

The University of Ferrara (Italian: Università degli Studi di Ferrara) is the main university of the city of Ferrara in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. In the years prior to the First World War the University of Ferrara, with more than 500 students, was the best attended of the free universities in Italy. Today there are approximately 16,000 students enrolled at the University of Ferrara with nearly 400 degrees granted each year. The teaching staff number 600, including 288 researchers. It is organized into 12 Departments.
