Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens (over 250 acres) are county botanical gardens with an arboretum and natural areas located at 22306 Aldine Westfield Road in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. They are open daily with free admission. The gardens are named after Thelma and Charles Mercer, who purchased 14.5 acres (59,000 m2) in the late 1940s for their home and garden. They preserved native trees such as dogwoods, cabbage palmettos, rusty blackhaw viburnum, and hawthorns, and introduced camellias and exotic tree species such as ginkgo, bauhinia, philadelphus, camphor, and tung oil. The property was purchased by Harris County in 1974, and has grown to 325 acres (1.32 km2).The gardens include an Azalea trail, hills, a Bald Cypress Pond, a Bamboo Garden, an Endangered Species Garden, an Herb Garden, a Hickory Bog, the Jake Roberts Maple Collection, the Post Oak Uplands, a Prehistoric Garden, a Rock Garden, the William D. Lee Iris Collection, Perennial Gardens, a Tropical Garden, a playground, picnic tables, walking paths, and a gift shop.

Skyway (formerly TerminaLink) is an automated people mover system operating at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. The system is 0.7 miles (1.1 km) long, and runs along the north side of the airport, beyond airport security. The system serves all of the airport's five terminals, with four stations at Terminal A, Terminal B, Terminal C, and International Terminal D/E, respectively. The other people mover, which operates landside, opened in 1969 and is known as the Subway. The system uses Innovia APM 100 vehicles, which are powered from a 600-volt third rail. Greater Greenspoint, also referred to as the North Houston District, is a 7-square-mile (18 km2) business district and a suburban neighborhood in northern Harris County, Texas, United States, located mostly within the city limits of Houston. Centered around the junction of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway Beltway 8 near George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the area is a classic example of a planned edge city. The initial 2,000-acre (8.1 km2) retail and office development centered around Greenspoint Mall was a project of the Friendswood Development Company during the 1970s and early 1980s.Greenspoint is one of Houston's major business districts, with 10.82 million square feet (1.005 million square metres) of office space. The district's 2,880 companies host a workforce of nearly 50,000 people. Major flooding events along Greens Bayou, which bisects the district, have put additional pressure on the area's large low-income population; nearly half of Greenspoint residents have an income of under $25,000 per year, well below the Houston median of over $44,000 per year.In order to create new infrastructure, boost public services (particularly safety), and spearhead urban planning, the Texas Legislature created the North Houston District in 1991. Spring High School is a public high school located in the Spring census-designated place in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States.Spring High School, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Spring Independent School District. Spring High School's mascot is the lion. School colors are black, green, and white. Oren Chappell was principal of the school in the early 1980s. Gloria Marshall was the principal of Spring High School from 1985 until June 2007. Dean Borg served as principal for the 2007-2008 school year and Donna Ullrich was named principal on July 3, 2008.. Diaka R. Carter was appointed as the new principal in 2016. As of the 2011-2012 school year, Spring High School is the largest campus in Spring ISD. Spring High School was named a 1992-93 National Blue Ribbon School.

On September 4, 2013, one student was killed and three others were wounded in a stabbing attack at Spring High School in Spring, Texas, United States. A 17-year-old student, identified as Luis Alonzo Alfaro, was arrested and charged for the murder. In September 2014, Alfaro was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison.The stabbing raised issues of gang and racial tensions among the Spring High School community and local community leaders.

On July 9, 2014, a mass shooting occurred in a home located in northern Harris County, Texas, near the Spring census-designated place, a suburban area of the Greater Houston area, leaving six family members dead, four children, and a lone survivor. Ronald Lee Haskell, 34, was apprehended after a standoff that lasted several hours. Haskell was related to the victims via his ex-wife.
