Thornbury Township is a township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2010 U.S. census, the population was 8,028, up from 7,093 at the 2000 census. It is adjacent to, and was once joined with, Thornbury Township in Chester County. It includes part of the census designated place of Cheyney University.

The John Cheyney Log Tenant House and Farm, also known as the Thomas Huston Farm, is an historic American home and associated buildings that are located in Cheyney, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. This complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

WZZE was an American Top 40 (CHR) radio station, which was located in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, area. The station was broadcast via a transmitter located in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. WZZE featured a variety of disc jockeys who all had various shifts at the station itself. The station ceased broadcasting in 2014 but did not inform the Federal Communications Commission of this until June 28, 2019, at which point its license was canceled on July 2, 2019.

Cheyney station is a train station in Thornbury Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. It currently serves as a stop on the West Chester Railroad tourist railroad line, and previously served as a station for the Pennsylvania Railroad and SEPTA.

The Glen Mills Schools was a youth detention center for juvenile delinquents located near Glen Mills in Thornbury Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States, for boys between 12 and 21 years of age. The school was founded in 1826 and was the oldest surviving school of its type in the United States until all residents were ordered removed on March 25, 2019, by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. The school's licenses were subsequently revoked for not complying with the state's Human Services Code and regulations.Previously, Glen Mills had been lauded as a "pathbreaking concept for modernizing failing reform schools in the United States". The St. Petersburg Times in 1996 called it "the country's most radical and, some say, its most effective answer yet to juvenile crime". and the New York Times praised its "culture that encourages self-discipline and a sense of mutual respect and responsibility". Juvenile courts in other states, such as California and Texas, along with various Pennsylvania jurisdictions, sent boys adjudged delinquent to Glen Mills Schools. Even troubled boys from other countries, such as Bermuda and Germany, were also sent there. Bermuda's Department of Child and Family Services, for example, sent boys to Glen Mills for more than 35 years between 1982–2017, paying almost $1.6 million to the school between 2001 and 2019. On the school's 125th Anniversary, it described itself as having "500 court-adjudicated male youth on an open residential campus, providing students with academics, vocational programs, character and leadership skill development, behavior services, athletics and recreation".The school denied allegations of mistreatment and appealed the revocation of its licenses to the Pennsylvania DHS Bureau of Hearings and Appeals, but settled a class action lawsuit in 2023.

Chester Creek Historic District is a national historic district located along the west branch of Chester Creek at Thornbury Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The district includes 52 contributing buildings and 5 structures associated with the early settlement and industrial development of the Chester Creek valley. Notable buildings and structures include the Yarnall Bank House, Locksley Mill and Manor House (1704), John Edwards House, Glen Mills Station (1882), Station House and Store (c. 1882), Willcox Mills (c. 1850), Workers' Cottages (c. 1830-1880), Daniel Broomall House, and the Hemphill House.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Cheyney is an unincorporated community that sits astride Chester and Delaware counties in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It corresponds to the census-designated place known as Cheyney University, which had a population of 988 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. The university derives its name from George Cheyney's Farm, which became the current campus of Cheyney University in 1902. George Cheyney's Farm and the surrounding area was part of the original land grant given to William Penn in 1681. Originally, Cheyney was located at the intersection of what is now Creek and Cheyney Roads. The original "Cheyney's Shops" dated from the mid 18th century and were located on the north west and north east corners of the intersection of Creek and Cheyney Roads. The original Cheyney Post Office was located there as well as the general store, hotel, blacksmith shop and wheelsmith's shop. There are old maps that show "Cheyney" to be located at the intersection of Creek (sometimes Tanguy) and Cheyney Roads. All the newer maps show the location of "Cheyney" to be on Station Road. The Cheyney Family originally owned nearly 10,000 acres. William Cheyney was the first postmaster in 1835. When the railroad came through Cheyney, the post office was moved to Station Road. The original station was located in a brick structure (now a private residence) that still stands on Station Road just east of Cheyney Road. The current station building is home to the Cheyney Post Office. The last remaining portion of the Cheyney's Shops are on the north east corner of Creek and Cheyney Roads. Cheyney University tore down all the original buildings located on the north west corner in the late 1960s or early 1970s. This group of buildings consisted of a hotel, general store/post office and blacksmith's shop as well as a large bank barn. A stone wheelwright's shop and two other related original buildings are located on the opposite corner and still survive today. These structures were purchased in 1847 from the Cheyney Family by William Maison. The wheelwright shop operated until 1918 when Samuel W. Maison, son of William Maison, died. In 1934 Mary Elizabeth Maison, daughter of William Maison, sold the structures and property. Cheyney straddles the border between Thornbury Township in Chester County and Thornbury Township in Delaware County. These townships were originally one township, which was bisected when Delaware County split from Chester County in 1789. Both township offices are located along Cheyney Road next to the university. The John Cheyney Log Tenant House and Farm and Melrose are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

"Melrose", also known as the Old President's House, is an historic home that is located on the campus of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania in Cheyney, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is a public historically black university in Cheyney, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1837 as the Institute for Colored Youth, it is the oldest of all historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States. It is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The university offers bachelor's degrees and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

George W. Hill Correctional Facility is a county jail and prison located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in the townships of Thornbury and Concord. It has a Thornton postal address, and is within the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Founded in 1998, the jail was previously managed and operated by Boca Raton, Florida's GEO Group until 2009 and was run by West Caldwell, New Jersey based company, Community Education Centers (CEC). In April 2017, GEO Group completed an acquisition of CEC, regaining management of the prison. Currently, the facility is managed by Delaware County, which took back control of the jail as of April 6, 2022 and generally houses inmates with sentences of two years less one day or a state sentences of five years less one day. The facility was Pennsylvania's last privately operated county jail. The jail occupies fewer than 144 acres (58 ha) of land on a more than 414-acre (168 ha) plot of county property.
