The Basilica of St. Quirinus (German: Münster-Basilika St. Quirin ) also called Minster-Basilica of St. Quirinus of Neuss Is a Catholic basilica that was erected in the city of Neuss in the western part of the present state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany between 1209 and 1230. The basilica is one of the best examples of Romanesque churches in Germany. It has a strong Lombard influence but in principle shows the first signs of Gothic. In its bell tower the first semicircular arches appear. This form of arch becomes centuries later in one of the marks that marked the Gothic style. It is dedicated to St. Quirinus of Neuss, a prominent Roman martyr of the third century, revered in Neuss as the body of the martyr moved to this city in the year 1050, a gift of Pope Leo IX to Abbess Gepa. In 2009 the church was recognized by Pope Benedict XVI with the title of minor basilica.

The Destruction of Neuss occurred in July 1586, during the Cologne War. Alexander Farnese, Duke of Parma's troops surrounded the city of Neuss, an important Protestant garrison in the Electorate of Cologne. After the city refused to capitulate, Parma's army reduced the city to rubble through a combination of artillery fire, destructive house-to-house fighting, and plundering; during the battle, a fire started that destroyed most of the rest of the city. Approximately 3000 civilians died, out of a population of around 4500, and the entire garrison was killed.

Neuss (German pronunciation: [nɔʏs] (listen); spelled Neuß until 1968; Limburgish: Nüss [ˈnɵs]; Latin: Novaesium) is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neuss Central Station (Neuss Hauptbahnhof) is the railway station for the city of Neuss in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The main station building is built on a platform between the tracks and it is located at the junction of the Lower Left Rhine Railway (Linksniederrheinische Strecke, Cologne–Kleve) and the Mönchengladbach–Düsseldorf railway. These lines also connect with the Düren–Neuss railway and the Neuss–Viersen railway; the latter has ended since 1984 at Kaarster See station and is operated by the private Regiobahn company. The station is a transport hub, served by various rail services, a Stadtbahn line, a tram line and a bus station with eight bays in the station forecourt. Neuss station houses several shops, including a restaurant, a snack bar and a kiosk. In 2006, it was modernised, with two of its four platforms equipped with lifts for wheelchair users. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 2 station.

The stream Gillbach is a tributary to the Erft in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. With a length of 28.5 kilometres it flows through the cities of Bergheim, Grevenbroich, and Neuss. At the source the Gillbach provides cooling water for the Niederaussem Power Station. As a consequence, the stream is much warmer than most other streams in Central Europe and even hosts tropical fish species like guppies or convict cichlids that have been released by private pet holders.

The station opened on 29 May 1988 on the new line built with the Hamm railway bridge opened by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company on 24 July 1870.The station is served by three lines of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn, S 8 (running between Hagen and Mönchengladbach), S 11 (running between Düsseldorf Airport and Bergisch Gladbach) and S 28 (running between Mettmann Stadtwald or Wuppertal and Kaarster See), each operating every 20 minutes during the day.It is also served by bus route 842, operated by Stadtwerke Neuss at 20-minute intervals, and by bus route 874, operated by Busverkehr Rheinland at 60- to 180-minute intervals.

ISR International School on the Rhine is a private school that started operation in 2003 in the heart of the Neuss/Düsseldorf area, in the Western part of central Germany.
