The University of Regensburg (German: Universität Regensburg) is a public research university located in the city of Regensburg, Germany. The university was founded on 18 July 1962 by the Landtag of Bavaria as the fourth full-fledged university in Bavaria. Following groundbreaking in 1965, the university officially opened to students during the 1967–1968 winter semester, initially housing faculties in Law and Business Sciences and Philosophy. During the summer semester of 1968 the faculty of Theology was created. Currently, the University of Regensburg houses eleven faculties. The university actively participates in the European Union's SOCRATES programme as well as part of the Compostela-Group. Its most famous academic, the previous Pope Benedict XVI, served as a professor there until 1977 and formally retained his chair in theology.

Prüll Charterhouse, previously Prüll Abbey (Kartause or Kloster Prüll), is a former Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, in Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany.

The Regensburg University of Applied Sciences (German: Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg, literally: Eastern Bavarian Technical University of Regensburg) is a university of applied sciences (UAS) in Regensburg, Germany. It was founded in 1971 as a college for technology, business and social work, but has roots in the mid 19th century. Today the university is one of the largest institutions of applied sciences in Bavaria. Its eight faculties offer 28 Bachelor's degree programs, 20 Master's degree studies as well as five postgraduate courses. Emphasis is laid on Engineering and Computer Sciences, and Law, Economic and Social Sciences.

The Evangelical Protestant Central Cemetery in Regensburg (German: Der Evangelische Zentralfriedhof in Regensburg) is a historic, church-owned and operated Lutheran cemetery located in the city of Regensburg, in Germany. The cemetery is located on a hillside, on the northern slope of Galgenberg, between Friedensstrasse 12 in the north and Bischof-Konrad-Strasse in the south.

Saint Emmeram's Abbey (German: Kloster Sankt Emmeram or Reichsabtei Sankt Emmeram) was a Benedictine monastery founded around 739 at Regensburg in Bavaria (modern-day southeastern Germany) at the grave of the itinerant Frankish bishop Saint Emmeram. The original abbey church is now a parish church named St. Emmeram's Basilica. The other buildings on the site form a large complex known as Schloss Thurn und Taxis or Schloss St. Emmeram, which has served as the main residence of the Thurn und Taxis princely family since the early 19th century.

The Public Observatory Regensburg (German: Volkssternwarte Regensburg) is an astronomical observatory located in Regensburg, Germany. Its history dates back to the year 1774 when Saint Emmeram's Abbey dedicated two towers to astronomical observations. For the most time, it served for educational purposes. Today it is run by a non-profit organization, the Verein der Freunde der Sternwarte Regensburg e.V.. The observatory is accessible for visitors on Friday evenings.

Regensburg is a city in eastern Bavaria, at the confluence of the Danube, Naab and Regen rivers, Danube's northernmost point. It is the capital of the Upper Palatinate subregion of the state in the south of Germany. With more than 150,000 inhabitants, Regensburg is the fourth-largest city in the State of Bavaria after Munich, Nuremberg and Augsburg. From its foundation as an imperial Roman river fort, the city has been the political, economic and cultural centre of the surrounding region; it is still known in the Romance languages as a cognate of its Latin name of Ratisbona (the version Ratisbon was long current in English). Later, under the rule of the Holy Roman Empire, it housed the Perpetual Diet of Regensburg. The medieval centre of the city was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006 because of its well-preserved architecture, being the biggest medieval city site north of the Alps, and the city's historical importance for assemblies during the Holy Roman Empire. In 2014, Regensburg was among the top sights and travel attractions in Germany.

The Principality of Regensburg (German: Fürstentum Regensburg) was a principality of the Holy Roman Empire that was created in 1803. Its capital was Regensburg. Following the dissolution of the Empire in 1806, the principality became a member state of the Confederation of the Rhine until 1810.

The original Regensburg Synagogue, erected between 1210 and 1227, was an edifice in Old Romanesque style in Regensburg (also known as Ratisbon), southern Germany, on the site of the former Jewish hospital, in the center of the ghetto, where the present Neue Pfarre stands. Two etchings made by Albrecht Altdorfer of the synagogue shortly before it was destroyed on February 22, 1519, provide the first portrait of an actual architectural monument in European printmaking. In 1519 following the death of Emperor Maximilian, who had long been a protector of the Jews in the imperial cities, extracting from them substantial taxes in exchange, the city of Regensburg, which blamed its economic troubles on its prosperous Jewish community, expelled the 500 Jews. The Jews themselves had demolished the interior of their venerable synagogue, on the site of which a chapel was built in honor of the Virgin. According to a chronicle the exiles settled, under the protection of the Duke of Bavaria, on the opposite bank of the Danube, in Stadt-am-Hof, and in villages in the vicinity; from these they were expelled in the course of the same century.In 1669 Jews were again permitted to reside in Regensburg but it was not until April 2, 1841 that the community was able to dedicate its new synagogue. In 1907 however, it was demolished for fear of collapse. Rebuilt in 1912 at a different place, when the town had a Jewish population of about 600, it was destroyed by the Nazis on November 9, 1938, during Kristallnacht.

The Scots Monastery (in German Schottenkirche, Schottenkloster or Schottenstift) is the former Benedictine Abbey of St James (Jakobskirche) in Regensburg, Germany. It was founded in the 11th century by Irish missionaries and for most of its history was in the hands of first Irish, then Scottish monks. In Middle Latin, Scotti meant Gaels, not differentiating Ireland from Scotland, so that the term Schottenstift dates from the Irish period. The full official name of the actual church, the most prominent building within the abbey complex, is Die irische Benediktinerklosterkirche St. Jakob und St. Gertrud (literally: "The Irish Benedictine Abbey Church of St. James and St. Gertrude").
