The Snow Hole

White Rock, 2,550 feet (780 m), is the high point on a 7 mi (11 km) ridgeline in the Taconic Mountains. The ridge is located in the tri-state corner of New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont in the towns of Petersburgh, Williamstown, and Pownal. The ridge has several distinct knobs; those with names are, from south to north: White Rocks, 2,365 feet (721 m); Smith Hill, 2,330 feet (710 m); White Rock, the high point 2,550 feet (780 m); and Bald Mountain 2,485 feet (757 m). The Snow Hole, located along the ridgeline between Bald Mountain and the White Rock, is a crevasse in which snow can be found well into the summer.

Mooar-Wright House (also known as the Defoe-Mooar-Wright House) is a historic house in Pownal, Vermont that is one of the oldest in Vermont. The house was built in c. 1750 or 1764.) and is possibly the oldest house in Vermont. Some believe that the house was built by the Dutch, and others believe that it was built by John Defoe, a British loyalist imprisoned there. The construction date has not yet been verified with dendrochronology.

North Pownal is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. It is in southwestern Bennington County, in the western part of the town of Pownal, 1 mile (1.6 km) east of the Vermont–New York border. The Hoosic River, a west-flowing tributary of the Hudson River, flows through the center of the community. Vermont Route 346 is the main road through the village, leading southeast 3 miles (5 km) to U.S. Route 7 at Pownal village. To the northwest, VT 346/NY 346 leads 4 miles (6 km) to North Petersburg, New York.

Mount Raimer, 2,572 feet (784 m), is a prominent peak in the Taconic Mountains of western Massachusetts and adjacent New York. The west side and summit are located in New York; the east slopes lie within Massachusetts. The summit ridge is part meadow and part wooded with red spruce, balsam fir, and northern hardwood tree species. It is notable for its views of the Hoosic River valley and Hudson River Valley. The 35 mi (56 km) Taconic Crest Trail traverses the mountain. Much of the upper slopes and summit are within protected conservation land. The mountain is the location of a defunct ski area.

Pownal is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. It is in southwestern Bennington County, in the southwest part of the town of Pownal, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of the Vermont–Massachusetts border. The Hoosic River, a west-flowing tributary of the Hudson River, forms the western edge of the village. Vermont Route 346 passes through the center of the village, leading northwest 3 miles (5 km) to North Pownal. It has its southern terminus in the eastern part of Pownal village, at U.S. Route 7, which leads north 9 miles (14 km) to Bennington and south 5 miles (8 km) to Williamstown.

Green Mountain Race Track was an American horse racing and a greyhound racing track located in Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont that operated from 1963 to 1993.

Moon Hill is a 1,408-foot-tall (429 m) mountain in the U.S. state of New York. It is located north-northeast of Petersburg in Rensselaer County. Moon Hill was named after J. S. Moon.

Odell Hill is a summit in the U.S. state of New York. The elevation is 1,257 feet (383 m).Odell Hill was named in 1790 after Simeon Odell.

Petersburgh is a town located in the northeast section of Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 1,372 at the 2020 census. The town was named after an early settler named Peter Simmons.

Petersburgh United Methodist Church is a historic Methodist church at 12 Head of Lane Road in Petersburgh, Rensselaer County, New York. It was originally built in 1820 and modified to its present Queen Anne style appearance in 1892. The original meeting house style building measures 48 feet long and 36 feet wide. In 1892, the 45 feet tall bell tower was added and a more steeply pitched roof was added over the original roof. An annex was completed in 1938.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Berlin Mountain is a 2,818-foot-tall (859 m) prominent peak in the Taconic Mountains of western New England and is located adjacent to Massachusetts's border with New York State. It is the highest point in Rensselaer County. The summit and west side of the mountain are located in New York; the east side lies within Williamstown, Massachusetts. The mountain is a bald, notable for its grassy summit and expansive views of the Hudson River Valley to the west. The 37-mile (60 km) Taconic Crest Trail traverses the mountain. Several other hiking trails approach the summit from the east. Much of the upper slopes and summit are within protected conservation land. Historically the lower slopes of the mountain were farmed heavily throughout the 19th Century. In addition to agriculture, there are several remnants of charcoal kilns located on the mountain that produced fuel for iron smelting.

The Taconic Mountains () are a 150-mile-long sub-range of the Appalachian Mountains lying on the eastern border of New York State and adjacent New England. The range, which played a role in the history of geological science, is separated from the Berkshires and Green Mountains to the east by a series of valleys, principally those of the Housatonic River, Battenkill River and Otter Creek. The Taconics' highest point is Mount Equinox in Vermont at 3,840 feet (1,170 m); among many other summits are Dorset Mountain, Mount Greylock and Mount Everett.Forests are predominately maple-beech-birch with some spruce-fir at higher elevations, "and oak and hickory common to the south and at lower elevations." The area is part of the New England-Acadian forests ecoregion. Although mostly private property, the Taconics contain a half-dozen sizable state forests and parks, as well as many preserves of lesser acreage protected by land trusts. Several hundred miles of trails are within these mountains, including parts of the Appalachian Trail.
