The politics of the Highland council area in Scotland are evident in the deliberations and decisions of the Highland Council, in elections to the council, and in elections to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (Westminster) and the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). In the European Parliament the area was within the Scotland constituency, which covers all of the 32 council areas of Scotland.

The Highland Council Headquarters, formerly County Buildings, is a municipal structure in Glenurquhart Road, Inverness, Highland, Scotland. The oldest part of the complex, which currently serves as the headquarters of The Highland Council, is a Category C listed building.

The Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness is one of the seven dioceses of the Scottish Episcopal Church. It covers Caithness and Sutherland (the old Diocese of Caithness), mainland Ross and Cromarty (the old Diocese of Ross), and mainland Inverness-shire, Nairnshire, Moray and Banffshire (the old Diocese of Moray). The diocesan centre is St Andrew's Cathedral in Inverness. The see is currently occupied by Mark Strange.

St Michael & All Angels is a church of the Scottish Episcopal Church in the city of Inverness in Scotland on the west bank of the River Ness. It is in the Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness.

Eden Court Theatre (Scottish Gaelic: Cùirt an Easbaig) is a large theatre, cinema and arts venue situated in Inverness, Scotland close to the banks of the River Ness. The theatre has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and major extension, adding a second theatre, two dedicated cinema screens, two performance/dance studios, improved dressing room and green room facilities and additional office space. The theatre's restaurant and bar facilities have also been totally overhauled and improved.

The Royal Northern Infirmary was a health facility in Ness Walk, Inverness, Scotland. The site remains the home of a small facility, known as the RNI Community Hospital, which was built in the grounds of the old hospital and is managed by NHS Highland.

Greig Street Bridge is a footbridge across the River Ness located in Inverness, Scotland. It is a suspension bridge built in 1880–1 by the civil engineer C. Manners in conjunction with the Rose Street Foundry for a cost of £1,400.It is composed of two side spans of 20.4 metres (67 ft) and a central span of 61.3 metres (201 ft). The bridge has warren trusses with an additional railing for pedestrian safety. The cables were replaced in 1952, as were the anchorages in 1989.An important rite of passage for young Invernesians involves getting a third of the way onto the bridge and jumping up and down in unison. This creates the famous Greig Street sine wave, to the delight of the perpetrators and the horror of tourists, giving it, and an identical bridge further upstream, the local nickname of "The Bouncy Bridge".

Inverness Cathedral (Scottish Gaelic: Cathair-Eaglais Inbhir Nis), also known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew (1866–69), is a cathedral of the Scottish Episcopal Church situated in the city of Inverness in Scotland close to the banks of the River Ness. It is the seat of the Bishop of Moray, Ross and Caithness, ordinary of the Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness. The cathedral is the northernmost extant diocesan cathedral in mainland Britain - Dornoch Cathedral, Fortrose Cathedral and Elgin Cathedral are no longer acting as diocesan cathedrals. It was the first new Protestant cathedral to be completed in Great Britain since the Reformation.

Dalneigh (; Scottish Gaelic: Dail an Eich) is an area in the city of Inverness in Scotland. Located in the west of the city, it lies between the River Ness and the Caledonian Canal. The name is derived from the Gaelic word Dail an Eich, meaning 'Field of the horse'. As hinted by the name, it was originally a farm, but following the end of the Second World War, it was turned into a residential area to provide housing for the expected increase in demand. Over the following fifty years, successive waves of development saw Dalneigh transformed from farmland into home for thousands of people. In 1937, Inverness High School was opened in the east of Dalneigh and is still the main secondary school for the area's children; the school roll has declined from over one thousand in the 1950s to just under half that today. Dalneigh Primary School is one of Inverness High's feeder primaries and is situated in central Dalneigh. Prior to their merger with Inverness Thistle F.C. in 1994, Caledonian F.C. played at Telford Street Park in the north of Dalneigh, and drew a lot of their support from the area. Politically, Dalneigh is part of the Highland Council ward of Inverness Central. For elections to the Scottish Parliament, Dalneigh is part of the Inverness and Nairn constituency, and is part of the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey constituency for elections to the UK Parliament.

The River Ness (Scottish Gaelic: Abhainn Nis) is a river in Highland, Scotland, UK. It flows from Loch Dochfour, at the northern end of Loch Ness, north-east to the mouth of the Beauly Firth at Inverness, a distance of about 6 miles (10 kilometres), with a fall in height of about 16 metres (52 feet). The river is the origin of the name of Inverness which is from Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Nis, meaning "Mouth of the Ness".

Old High St Stephen's Church (Scottish Gaelic: Seann Eaglais Ard) is a parish church of the Church of Scotland in Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands of Scotland. The congregation was formed on 30 October 2003 by a union of the congregations of Inverness Old High (57.4801°N 4.2289°W / 57.4801; -4.2289 (Old High Church)) and Inverness St Stephen's (57.4730°N 4.2186°W / 57.4730; -4.2186 (St Stephen's Church)). Unusually in a union of Church of Scotland congregations, both buildings were retained for worship. In January 2022, regular worship ended at Old High. Since then, the Sunday service takes place at St Stephen's Church at 10:30am The Old High congregation was the oldest congregation in Inverness. The church—the historic town church of Inverness—mainly dates from the eighteenth century. Its site, overlooking the banks of the River Ness, has been used for worship since Celtic times. Thus the congregation can claim to have been founded by St Columba, the Irish monk who first brought Christianity to Inverness. Among many notable features is a Father Willis organ, restored in 2010. The Old High Church is a category A listed building. St Stephen's was founded as a 'daughter church' of the Old High in 1897. It is a gothic building in Morayshire freestone, designed by WL Carruthers. St Stephen's is a category B listed building. The parish area includes the city centre, part of the Crown area, and the southern suburbs of the city, including Drummond and Lochardil. The Old High Church is on the market for offers over £150,000 The first minister of the united charge was the Reverend Peter W Nimmo, who was inducted in August 2004. He had previously been minister of High Carntyne in Glasgow. Rev James Bissett, an Ordained Local Minister, is currently serving as locum for the united charge.

Ballifeary (; Scottish Gaelic: Baile na Faire) is district of Inverness, Scotland. It is situated a half-mile (1 km) south southwest of the town centre. The B-listed Ballifeary House on Ness Walk dates from the mid-19th century, but has been a care home run by the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland since 1964. Bught Park lies immediately to the south.
