Placentia Plantation was a plantation founded in the 18th century near colonial Savannah, Province of Georgia, around 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southeast of the city and a short distance west of the Wilmington River. Until emancipation, the plantation was worked by black slaves.Josiah Tattnall Jr., son of founding father of Savannah, Josiah Tattnall Sr., inherited the plantation in 1781. He was born at nearby Bonaventure Plantation. In 1786, Tattnall sold 850 acres (340 ha) of Plancentia to John McQueen.William Hughes, after surveying the land, divided the property into twelve equal parcels, each containing 65 acres (26 ha). The plots ran from Skidaway Road to the marshes at the Wilmington River.Since 1891, Savannah State University has stood partly on the plantation's colored cemetery, a 2.5 acres (1.0 ha) burial site containing many unmarked graves.In the early 19th century, John Postell Williamson began cultivating the land for rice, cotton and corn.In 2018, construction on a memorial garden for the colored graveyard was begun at Savannah State University.Placentia Canal flows north through the area and empties into the Wilmington River across from Richardson Creek. It was constructed between 1877 and 1887.

Savannah State University (Savannah State or SSU) is a public historically black university in Savannah, Georgia. It is the oldest historically black public university in the state. The university is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Sol C. Johnson High School, known as Johnson High School, is a public high school located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. A unit of the Savannah-Chatham County School System, it has been ranked number 819 among Newsweek magazine's top 1,500 U.S. secondary schools based on advanced placement and International Baccalaureate test scores. According to the Savannah Morning News, Johnson High students have been "taking strides forward" in their recent performance on the statewide Georgia High School Graduation Test.Johnson High was named in the "America’s Best High Schools 2010" edition of Newsweek.

Tiger Arena is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is home to the Savannah State University Tigers men's and women's basketball teams and women's volleyball team. Tiger Arena has previously hosted the Georgia High School Association boys and girls playoffs (first round), the annual Georgia Athletic Coaches Association's North-South All-Star Game (2003-2008), and the Savannah Holiday Classic high school girls basketball tournament. It was also home to the Savannah Steam of American Indoor Football.

Thunderbolt () is a town located in Chatham County, Georgia, United States, approximately five miles southeast of downtown Savannah. As of the 2020 census, the town had a total population of 2,556. It is part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Thunderbolt runs along the western shore of the Wilmington River (a tidal river that is part of the U.S. Intracoastal Waterway). The town is important to Georgia's shrimping industry, with scores of docks for shrimping trawlers. The town's picturesque atmosphere and seafood restaurants draw many local visitors.

Ted Wright Stadium is a 13,500-seat multi-purpose stadium in Savannah, Georgia, United States. The facility is located on the campus of Savannah State University. The stadium is primarily used for American football and track and field. It is home to the Savannah State Tigers football and track and field teams and occasionally hosts games and events by high schools in Chatham County. The stadium is named in honor of Ted A. Wright, who served as Savannah State's head football coach from 1947 to 1949. The original stadium's construction was part of massive school building project that spanned from 1964 to 1971. The new stadium was built at a cost of $133,665 and John McGlockton, a 1935 graduate was instrumental in securing the lighting at no expense to the college. Prior to the current location of T.A. Wright Stadium, the SSU football team played in several different locations in over 100 years of competitive football. From 1902 to 1940, the Tigers played where the King-Frazier building now stands on the Savannah State campus. From 1940 to the 1969, they played on the grounds that the A.H. Gordon Library sits on today.

The Gaston Tomb (also known as the Stranger's Tomb) is a tomb in Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia. It was built in memory of William Gaston, a prominent merchant in Savannah who died in 1837. The tomb was built seven years later, initially in Savannah's Colonial Park Cemetery. It was moved to Bonaventure in 1873. Standing immediately inside the cemetery's gates, one of the tomb's vaults was used as a temporary resting place for visitors to Savannah who died while in the city. It allowed time for the relatives of the deceased to make arrangements for their burial. Gaston, nicknamed The Perfect Host, was initially interred in New York Marble Cemetery in Manhattan, but was later removed to the tomb at the request of William Ker, Gaston's nephew.

Bonaventure Plantation was a plantation founded in colonial Savannah, Province of Georgia, on land now occupied by Greenwich and Bonaventure cemeteries. The site was 600 acres (2.4 km2), including a plantation house and private cemetery, located on the Wilmington River, about 3.5 miles (6 kilometres) east of the Savannah colony.

Bonaventure Cemetery is a rural cemetery located on a scenic bluff of the Wilmington River, east of Savannah, Georgia. The cemetery's prominence grew when it was featured in the 1994 novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt, and in the subsequent movie, directed by Clint Eastwood, based on the book. It is the largest of the city's municipal cemeteries, containing nearly 160 acres (0.65 km2).The entrance to the cemetery is located at 330 Bonaventure Road. Immediately inside the gates is the large and ornate tomb of William Gaston, a prominent Savannahian merchant.

The Herb River is an 8.0-mile-long (12.9 km) tidal river in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in Chatham County, near the southeastern edge of Savannah. It connects with the Wilmington River to the north and the Moon River to the south, and it separates the mainland on the west from Isle of Hope and Dutch Island to the east.

Herschel V. Jenkins High School, known as Jenkins High School, is a public high school located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. A part of the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, it is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Georgia Accrediting Commission.

William L. Grayson Stadium is a stadium in Savannah, Georgia. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Savannah Bananas of the Coastal Plain League collegiate summer baseball league. It was the part-time home of the Savannah State University college baseball team from 2009 to 2011. It was also used from 1927 until 1959 for the annual Thanksgiving Day game between Savannah High School and Benedictine Military School. Known as "Historic Grayson Stadium", it was built in 1926. It holds 4,000 people. It also served as the home of the Savannah Cardinals from 1984 to 1995 and the Savannah Sand Gnats from 1996 to 2015.
