Hempstead High School is a public high school located in Hempstead, New York, United States. It is the Hempstead Union Free School District's only high school.As of the 2014–15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,226 students and 116.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 19.2:1. There were 1,346 students (60.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 34 (1.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Hempstead Lake State Park is a 737-acre (2.98 km2) state park located in Nassau County, New York in the United States. The park is located in West Hempstead and is one of three state parks within the Town of Hempstead. There is a quick-access entrance at exit 18 from the Southern State Parkway. The park contains the largest freshwater lake in Nassau County. The park offers picnic tables with pavilions, tennis courts, a playground, playing fields, recreation programs, hiking, biking, a bridle path, fishing, ice fishing, ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and a boat launch. The park contains three ponds for fishing that are stocked with several varieties of fish. Wooded picnic areas provide shade.

WKJY (98.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to Hempstead, New York, and serving Nassau County, New York. It broadcasts an adult contemporary music format and is owned by Connoisseur Media. WKJY's studios and offices are located at Airport Plaza in Farmingdale, New York, and its transmitter is located near the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead.

WJDM (1530 AM Radio Cantico Nuevo) is a radio station licensed to Mineola, New York, broadcasting a Spanish language Christian radio format. The station is owned by Cantico Nuevo Ministry, Inc.WJDM broadcasts during daytime hours only, from local sunrise to sunset in order to protect WCKY in Cincinnati, Ohio, a clear-channel station on the same frequency that can be heard in the New York City area after dark. The station, which was previously WTHE on 1520 AM, went silent on January 25, 2018, after being evicted from their transmitter site. It resumed broadcasting on January 15, 2019, in order to keep the station's license from being cancelled and the call letters deleted by the FCC. In February 2019, Cantico Nuevo Ministry filed a $200,000 deal to purchase WTHE from Universal Broadcasting of New York. The purchase was consummated on November 14, 2019, at a price of $200,000. The call letters were changed to WJDM from WTHE on May 27, 2021. The WJDM call letters had previously belonged to another Cantico Nuevo station, also on 1530 AM in Elizabeth, New Jersey, which had its license cancelled in 2020.In June 2023 WJDM moved from 1520 AM to 1530 AM and increased its power from 1000 to 10000 watts thereby providing a stronger signal especially over New York City and portions of northern New Jersey.

WHLI (1100 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Hempstead, New York, and serving Long Island. It is owned by Connoisseur Media and has an oldies radio format made up of hits from the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s. The station's studios and offices are located at Airport Plaza in Farmingdale, New York, and its transmitter is located off the Southern State Parkway at Milburn Avenue in Hempstead. WHLI broadcasts on 1100 AM, a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A WTAM in Cleveland. Because radio waves travel farther at night, WHLI must sign–off the air at sunset to protect WTAM.

South Side High School is the only public high school in the village of Rockville Centre, New York. South Side, a part of the Rockville Centre School District, serves grades 9 through 12 and boasts a variety of academic, extra-curricular and athletic programs, including the International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum in junior and senior years. School district boundaries can be found in Rockville Centre and South Hempstead. In 2008 South Side was ranked No. 47 in the top 100 high schools in the nation by Newsweek's "The Top of the Class: The complete list of the top 1,300 top U.S. high schools". South Side has maintained this distinction, at No. 65 in 2003, No. 45 in 2005, No. 32 in 2006 and No. 44 in 2007. The primary address for South Side is 140 Shepherd Street, Rockville Centre, New York 11570. Located further south in Rockville Centre is the "Greenhouse". Established in 1975, the purpose of this off-site school is to provide a different approach to teaching students with academic or personal troubles as well as different scheduling and academic programs. The main building has two floors. As of the 2014–15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,092 students and 93.7 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.6:1. There were 109 students (10.0% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 28 (2.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The town of Hempstead, historically known as South Hempstead, is the largest of the three towns in Nassau County (alongside North Hempstead and Oyster Bay) in the U.S. state of New York. St. George's Episcopal Church is an historic Episcopal church located at 319 Front Street (NY 102) in Hempstead, New York. It was constructed in 1822 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 as St. George's Church.The Rectory of St. George's Episcopal Church is an historic rectory located at 217 Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead. It was listed on the National Register, in 1988.

US Post Office-Hempstead is a historic post office building located at Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, United States. It was built in 1932 and designed by consulting architects Tooker & Marsh for the Office of the Supervising Architect. It is a two-story, symmetrically massed building faced with tan, brown, and red brick in the Classical Revival style. The central entrance features flanking octagonal aluminum Art Deco style lamps and other Art Deco ornamental detail. The lobby features 1936 murals by Peppino Mangravite installed in 1937.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
