Garkalne Municipality (Latvian: Garkalnes novads) was a municipality in Vidzeme, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2007 by reorganization of Garkalne Parish. The seat of the council of the municipality is situated extraterritorially in Berģi, Riga. The population in 2020 was 8,923.On 1 July 2021, Garkalne Municipality ceased to exist and its territory was merged with Ropaži Municipality.The main rivers are Lielā Jugla, Mazā Jugla (as a border river between Garkalne municipality and Stopiņi municipality), Krievupe, Jugla, in a small section of the river Tumšupe. The largest lakes in the region are Lielais Baltezers, Langstiņi Lake, Lielais Jūgezers, Mālezers, Mašēnu Lake and Upesciems Ponds. Maltuve swamp is located in the eastern part of the county.

Ādaži Municipality

Ādaži Municipality (Latvian: Ādažu novads) is a municipality in the historical region of Vidzeme, and the Riga Planning Region in Latvia, which consists of Ādaži and Carnikava Parish plus the administrative centre, Ādaži. The municipality is located 25 km from the center of Riga. The municipality was formed in 2006 from Ādaži Parish of Riga District and became a first level unit in 2009. After the 2021 administrative reform, Carnikava Municipality was merged into Ādaži Municipality.

Ādaži

Ādaži ([ˈaː.da.ʒi]) (formerly German: Neuermühlen) is a town in Pierīga, on the left bank of the Gauja river. The town is the administrative center of Ādaži Municipality. It is located by the highway A1, 21.6 km from the center of Riga. Ādaži has administrative offices, schools (Ādaži Elementary School, Ādaži Secondary School, and Ādaži Free Waldorf School), Kindergarten Strautins, several shops (Maxima, Rimi, Elvi) and service companies. Latvia's longest river Gauja flows along the Ādaži River, and its tributary Vējupe divides the town into two parts.Ādaži also has an eponymous wakeboarding club on the Gauja. The town is mostly known due to the nearby Latfood factory producing Ādažu Čipsi, the best known potato chip brand in Latvia.

A4 road (Latvia)

The A4 (Also known as the Riga Bypass) is a national road in Latvia and part of the Riga ring road, connecting Baltezers to Saulkalne.The road is part of European route E67, European route E77 and Latvian TEN-T road network. It has one lane in each direction spanning the entire length. It was reported that around 2020 widening of the road to 2x2 lanes will commence. As result it would receive an expressway or motorway status, and the current 90 km/h speed limit would be raised. The Annual average daily traffic of the A4 in 2016 was 11,954 cars per day.
