Cooley Mountains

Cúchulainn Gaels GFC is a Gaelic Football club located in Omeath, on the north-eastern side of the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth, Ireland. It fields teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA and recruits players from the neighbouring Peninsula villages of Omeath and Carlingford. The club competes in the Louth Junior Championship and Division 3B of the county football Leagues. Noel Litchfield is the senior team manager.

Omeath railway station was a railway station in County Louth, first opened by the Dundalk, Newry and Greenore Railway, which ran a service to the port at Greenore. From Greenore, ferries ran to Holyhead in Wales, and onward trains to London Euston. The railway was absorbed by the London & North Western Railway.The station, which opened on 1 August 1876, finally closed on 1 January 1952.

Omeath (; Irish: Ó Méith or Uí Meth) is a village on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth, Ireland, close to the border with Northern Ireland. It is roughly midway between Dublin and Belfast, very near the County Louth and County Armagh / County Down border. As of the 2016 census, Omeath had a population of 603, up from 439 during the 2006 census. It is approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) from Carlingford and about 8 km (5.0 mi) from Newry. By sea, Omeath's nearest land neighbour is Warrenpoint on the south County Down coast. Omeath is home to the Cúchulainn Gaels Gaelic Athletic Association club.

Jenkinstown (Irish: Baile Sheinicín) is a village and townland in the Municipal District of Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland on the Cooley Peninsula. The population is concentrated in the south of the area in the townlands of Annaloughan, Rampark, Loughanmore, and Piedmont, with some buildings in the eastern townlands Killin, Slievenaglogh, Ballygoley, Aghameen, Mullaghattin, and Spellickanee. In the centre and the west, namely in the eponymous townland of Jenkinstown, in Rockmarshall and in Moneycrockroe there are very few buildings. Neighbouring villages are Ballymascanlan in the west, Ravensdale in the north, and Rathcor in the north and east. The area of Jenkinstown is bounded by the mountains of Glenmore to the north and Dundalk Bay to the south. The Little River, a tributary of Castletown River, forms the northeastern boundary. Notable elevations within the village area are the Round Mountain near its western boundary, Annaloughan Mountain, and Slievenalogh. The main road is R173, which is joined by R174 in Rockmarshall townland. The abandoned Dundalk, Newry and Greenore Branch of the LNWR passed through Jenkinstown. Jenkinstown Crossroads is at the centre of the village, where one can go north up to the Long Womans Grave and the Magic Hill, or south past Jenkinstown Church. Also nearby is Fitzpatrick's Bar and Restaurant, which was included in the Michelin Eating Out Guide 2010.

Rockmarshall Court Tomb is a court cairn and National Monument located on the Cooley Peninsula, Ireland.

Newry River and River Clanrye (Irish: An Rí; Ulster-Scots: Clanrye Wattèr) are names for one of the rivers of Ireland. The river passes through the city of Newry and empties into Carlingford Lough near Warrenpoint.

The Cooley Peninsula (from Irish Cuaille, older Cúalṅge) is a hilly peninsula in the north of County Louth on the east coast of Ireland; the peninsula includes the small town of Carlingford, the port of Greenore and the village of Omeath.

Warrenpoint (Irish: An Pointe) is a small port town and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland. It sits at the head of Carlingford Lough, south of Newry, and is separated from the Republic of Ireland by a narrow strait. The town is beside the village of Rostrevor and is overlooked by the Mournes and Cooley Mountains. Warrenpoint sprang up within the townland of Ringmackilroy (from Irish Rinn Mhic Giolla Ruaidh 'McIlroy's point'), and is locally nicknamed "The Point", which also represents the town's full name in Irish, An Pointe". Warrenpoint is known for its scenic location, the Maiden of Mourne festival, the Blues on the Bay music festival, the passenger ferry service between Warrenpoint and Omeath and the nearby Narrow Water Castle. Warrenpoint Port is second in terms of tonnage handled by ports in Northern Ireland. It had a population of 9,091 at the 2021 Census.

The Newry Canal is an abandoned canal in Northern Ireland. Opened in 1742, it was built to link the Tyrone coalfields to the Irish Sea. The navigable route ran from Lough Neagh via the Upper Bann river to Portadown (approximated 9 miles), then approximately 20 miles from Portadown via the canal proper to Newry, terminating in the Albert Basin. The canal was closed to navigation in 1949, however its line remains intact and the towpath is currently part of the National Cycle Network and the Ulster Way long distance footpath. The Newry Ship Canal (opened in 1769), runs approximately 3½ miles south from Newry's Albert Basin to connect with the sea at Carlingford Lough. The Newry Ship Canal remains navigable by pleasure craft today.

Clermont Carn (Irish: Carnán Mhaighréid Náir, meaning 'cairn of noble Margaret'), also known as Black Mountain, is a mountain that rises to 510 metres (1,670 ft) in the Cooley Mountains of County Louth, Ireland. It is at the border with Northern Ireland, and is also the location of the Clermont Carn transmission site. The mountain's name refers to an ancient burial cairn on its summit, and to Lord Clermont of Ravensdale.

Adrian Donohoe (14 January 1972 – 25 January 2013) was an Irish detective in the Garda Síochána (Irish police) based at Dundalk Garda Station in County Louth, who was fatally shot in Bellurgan (near Jenkinstown, County Louth) on 25 January 2013 during a robbery by an armed gang of five people on a credit union. He was the first garda officer to be murdered in the line of duty since 1996, and was afforded a full state funeral. On 4 March 2018 at Dundalk District Court, 27-year-old Aaron Brady from New Road, Crossmaglen, County Armagh, was charged with Donohoe's murder and plead not guilty. Brady's trial began at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on 28 January 2020. On 12 August 2020, 29-year-old Aaron Brady was found guilty of the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe and was sentenced to the mandatory term of 40 years imprisonment. Brady was also sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for robbery at Lordship Credit Union. In July 2021, 33-year-old Brendan Treanor from Dundalk was charged with the armed robbery of the Lordship credit union on the night Donohoe was murdered. Also in July 2021, James Patrick Gerard Flynn or "Jimmy Flynn", 30, originally from South Armagh was arrested by National Crime Agency officers in London on foot of a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by Gardai, after the Director of Public Prosecutions approved charging Flynn with armed robbery of the credit union on the night Donohoe was murdered. It is reported Flynn had spent time in Boston after Donohoe's murder and was described as convicted murderer Aaron Brady's "best friend". Jimmy Flynn and Brendan Treanor went on trial in the Special Criminal Court in February 2023, charged with the robbery of the credit union in Lordship and also with conspiracy to enter residential premises with the intention of stealing car keys. Legal proceedings ended in May 2023 after 55 days of legal argument, with verdicts due to be delivered in September 2023. On 11 September 2023, James Flynn was found guilty of breaking into a house and stealing the keys of a car which was later used in the robbery of Lordship Credit Union and the capital murder of Adrian Donohoe. Flynn was found not guilty of the additional charge of robbery of €7,000 at the Credit Union. Brendan Treanor was found not guilty of both charges, however judge Mr Justice Hunt stated there was "clear evidence that establishes that Treanor is a member of a criminal gang along with others and was involved before during and after the robbery", but that charges of membership of a criminal gang had not been brought before the court. Flynn was remanded in custody for sentencing in November 2023.

St Peter's GAA (Irish: Cumann Pheadair Naofa) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Warrenpoint, County Down, Northern Ireland.
