St. George's Church, Sélestat

The Church of Saint Faith of Sélestat (French: Église Sainte-Foy de Sélestat, German: Sankt-Fides-Kirche) is a major Romanesque architecture landmark in Sélestat along the Route Romane d'Alsace in the East of France. The church having been built over a very short time span (only ten years, from 1170 to 1180), it appears strikingly homogenous in style and proportions, however some parts have been completed and others modified in a Romanesque Revival style by the architect Charles Winckler (sometimes spelled Winkler) between 1889 and 1893. During that restoration campaign, a crypt dating back to around 1085 was discovered and made accessible as well. Like many major buildings in Alsace the church is made of pink Vosges mountains sandstone.

The Humanist Library in Sélestat is one of the most important cultural treasures of Alsace, France. According to a traditional saying, Alsace has three great treasures: Strasbourg Cathedral, the Isenheim Altarpiece in Colmar and the Humanist Library in Sélestat. Actually, there are in fact two Renaissance humanist libraries involved, the library of the Humanist School and the private library of the famous scholar, Beatus Rhenanus (1485–1547).

The siege of Sélestat was a siege, extending from 20 to 24 October 1870, of the French Alsatian fortress of Sélestat, during the Franco-Prussian War. After artillery bombardment by the Germans, the siege ended when the French army surrendered, mainly because the French garrison was demoralized. The Germans suffered only minor losses, while this victory brought them many spoils.

Sélestat (French: [selɛsta]; Alsatian: Schlettstàdt; German: Schlettstadt) is a commune in the Grand Est region of France. It gradually declined after the Reformation and the French conquest in the 17th century. The town eventually experienced a new demographic growth in the second half of the 20th century when it became a small industrial and cultural centre. Thanks to its rich heritage, which includes the renowned Humanist Library and an imposing pair of medieval churches, Sélestat is an important tourist destination in Alsace. It also benefits from its location on the Alsace wine road and its proximity to Haut-Kœnigsbourg castle. Aside from the medieval old town, the commune of Sélestat encompasses a nature reserve including one of the largest riparian forests of France.

The canton of Sélestat is an administrative division of the Bas-Rhin department, northeastern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Sélestat.It consists of the following communes:

It has 101 communes. Its population is 156,463 (2016), and its area is 980.5 km2 (378.6 sq mi).

Sélestat station (French: Gare de Sélestat) is a railway station serving the commune of Sélestat, Bas-Rhin department, France. It is located at the junction of the Strasbourg–Basel railway with the branch lines towards Molsheim and Lièpvre. The station is owned and operated by SNCF, in the TER Grand Est regional rail network and is served by TER trains.

Châtenois (French pronunciation: [ʃatnwa] ; German: Kestenholz; Alsatian: Keschtaholz) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France.The small town is notable for its architectural heritage, among which the church Église Saint-Georges, the medieval, timber-framed "witch tower" (Tour des sorcières), the ancient town hall, etc.

Kintzheim (French pronunciation: ​[kintsaim]; German: Kinzheim) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France.The Château de Kintzheim is a well-known landmark in the commune.

Église Saint-Georges de Châtenois is the Catholic parish church of Châtenois, in the Bas-Rhin department of France. The current church was built from 1759 until 1761 by the local architect Martin Dorgler, but retains a Romanesque steeple from the 12th century, crowned with a spire from 1525. It became a registered Monument historique in 1901.The church houses some notable works of art, classified as Monument historique, among which are two 16th-century polychrome wooden Renaissance reliefs of the Nativity and the Assumption of Mary, and a 1765 pipe organ by Johann Andreas Silbermann.

The Château et cimetière de Châtenois is a ruined castle and a cemetery in the commune of Châtenois, in the department of Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. It is a listed historical monument since 1932.
