Planai

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1982 were held in Schladming, Austria, between 28 January and 7 February 1982. These were the 27th World Championships; the men's races were held at Planai and the women's at Haus im Ennstal.The combined event returned as a separate event, with its own downhill and two slalom runs. From 1954 through 1980, it was a "paper race" which used the results from the three races (downhill, giant slalom, and slalom). The combined was last run at the world championships in 1948, the last without the giant slalom event. The combined was absent from the program in 1950 and 1952. Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden won gold in the slalom and silver in the giant slalom, upset by Steve Mahre of the United States. Two women were triple medalists: Erika Hess of Switzerland won three golds, with titles in the slalom, giant slalom, and combined, and Christin Cooper of the U.S. won two silvers and a bronze. Switzerland and the U.S. led in total medals with five each; Switzerland had three golds (Hess') and five other nations each had a single gold medal. These were the last World Championships scheduled for an even-numbered year (1996 was a postponement of 1995, due to lack of snow). The world championships returned to Schladming in 2013, with all 11 events held at Planai.

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 were the 42nd FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, held 4–17 February in Austria at Planai in Schladming, Styria. A record number of athletes and countries took part in this championships. Schladming previously hosted the 1982 World Championships, and prior to acquiring the 2013 event, it made two unsuccessful bids to host. The FIS awarded the 2013 championships to Schladming on 29 May 2008, in Cape Town, South Africa. The other three finalists were Beaver Creek in Vail, United States, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, and St. Moritz, Switzerland. Beaver Creek/Vail hosted in 2015 and St. Moritz gained the championships for 2017.

Schladming (German: [ˈʃlaːdmiŋ]) is a small former mining town in the northwest of the Austrian state of Styria that is now a popular tourist destination. Since 1997 it is regular host of the night slalom, the highest attended in the circuit with 50,000 people each year. Course hosted two World Championships in 1982 and 2013 and World Cup season final in 2012.

It is also the name of the elevated plateau between the Dachstein range and the Enns valley on which this municipality is located. The appendage am Dachstein is added to distinguish the municipality from others of the same name existing in Austria. It is usually omitted in common speech.

Haus im Ennstal is a village in central Austria, located in the Liezen district of Styria. It is an important town on the Enns river. Haus is a well-known ski resort and has hosted World Cup alpine races several times, and the women's events of the World Championships in 1982. It offers a skiable field of 115 km (71 mi) served by 52 ski lifts.
