Clements, Maryland

Carpenters Island was an island located at the head of St. Clement's Bay in St. Mary's County, Maryland, patented in 1847 to Susan E. Carpenter, Amanda Carpenter, Rebecca Carpenter, and Matilda Carpenter and certified in the name of William Carpenter. The land patented included surrounding waters and measured one and three quarter acres. In 2005, the island was included in a list of "lost islands" of Chesapeake Bay, which is situated between Maryland and Virginia in the United States.

It offers college preparatory programs and programs that prepare students for business and technical occupations. It serves the community in the northern portion of St. Mary's County, Maryland, between the Potomac River and Patuxent River. Loveville is an unincorporated community in St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States, named for A. Kingsley Love, an attorney. It is known for its Old Order Mennonite community, who have a farmers' market/produce auction here, as well as craft shops and an annual quilt auction. Morganza is an unincorporated community in St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States.Today, it is home to a few homes and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, which has been in the area since 1759. The current church on Route 5 along a curve at the top of the hill was built in 1860 and the Morganza Post Office was established there in 1867, named after the Morgan family. The post office is now located across from Chopticon High School.Morganza was home to two public one-room school houses, and the church opened a parochial school for white students in 1926 and for black children in 1927. These schools were begun by John LaFarge, S.J. He is noted for his many interracial writings and activities. Fr LaFarge was quoted as having said that his ministry among both the white and Afro-American parishioners taught him about racial injustice.St. Joseph's original cemetery is located at the bottom of the hill along Route 5 and for many years was forgotten under dense underbrush, but has since been cleared. The River View is a historic home located at Oakley, St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. It is a 1+1⁄2-story, Flemish bond brick house that is one of the best preserved examples of its type in Lower Southern Maryland. It was built by the Gardiner family in the early 18th century, then purchased by Ignatius Fenwick, a prominent military figure in Maryland's Revolutionary War Navy. Also on the property are a number of early domestic dependencies that comprise the largest single collection of such buildings in St. Mary's County.The River View was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

St. Francis Xavier Church and Newtown Manor House Historic District is the first county-designated historic district in Saint Mary's County, the "Mother County" of Maryland and is located in Compton, Maryland, near the county seat of Leonardtown. The district marks a location and site important in the 17th-century ecclesiastical history of Maryland, as an example of a self-contained Jesuit community made self-supporting by the surrounding 700-acre (2.8 km2) farm. The two principal historic structures were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Archaeological remains associated with the site date back to the early colonial period, mid-17th century.

Leonardtown is a town in and the county seat of St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 4,563 at the 2020 census. Leonardtown is perhaps most famous for the national oyster-shucking championship that is held annually at the St. Mary's County fairgrounds. Historic Leonardtown includes both a large public high school and a public middle school Leonardtown Middle School as well as a Catholic high school and an elementary school Leonardtown Elementary School, offices of the county government, and St. Mary's Hospital which serves the healthcare needs of the county. The College of Southern Maryland maintains a growing satellite campus within city limits, including an aquatic center. An upscale home development located in the Breton Bay area is just outside town, notable for both its country club golf course and swimming pool. Leonardtown's population has grown significantly since 1990 as a result of the town's proximity to Patuxent River Naval Air Station and the Washington metro area.
