Fridley station

The Banfill Tavern, also known as the Locke House, is a historic building in Fridley, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1847 on the east bank of the Mississippi River and has served variously as an inn, a logging camp office, a private home, a dairy farm, a post office, and a summer home. It is now owned by Anoka County and, until April 2022, housed the non-profit Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts (now the North Suburban Center for the Arts). The building stands within Manomin County Park, and the art center is a partner site of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.The Banfill Tavern was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 for its local significance in the theme of architecture. It was nominated for being one of the earliest and best preserved frame Greek Revival houses in Anoka County.

Rice Creek is a tributary of the Mississippi River in the northern suburbs of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area of Minnesota in the United States. It is approximately 28 miles (45 km) long and drains a watershed of 201 square miles (520 km2).

The I-694 Bridge is a pair of girder bridges that spans the Mississippi River between the cities of Brooklyn Center and Fridley in Minnesota. The westbound bridge was built in 1963 by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and widened in 1987 with a new structure above the piers. The eastbound bridge was built in 1988, also by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The former eastbound bridge was authorized in April 1942 at the beginning of World War II as a wartime construction link of Minnesota State Highway 100 to New Brighton, Minnesota. When Interstate 694 was built, the Highway 100 bridge was widened and used for the eastbound lanes, while a new bridge was built for the westbound lanes. The eastbound bridge, showing its age, was demolished in 1988 and a new bridge was built. This bridge is Minnesota's second-busiest, carrying 150,000 cars per day. There is a sidewalk on the north side of the bridge allowing pedestrians and bicyclists to cross.

Fridley is a city in Anoka County, Minnesota, United States. Its population was 29,590 at the 2020 census. Fridley was incorporated in 1949 as a village, and became a city in 1957. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area as a northern "first-ring" or "inner-ring" suburb. Most of the growth in Fridley occurred between 1950 and 1970. Fridley borders Minneapolis to the southwest. Neighboring first-ring suburbs are Columbia Heights to the south and Brooklyn Center to the west, across the Mississippi River.

Woodcrest Baptist Academy (WBA) is a fundamentalist Christian K-12 school located in Fridley, Minnesota, founded in 1973 by members of Woodcrest Baptist Church.

Fridley High School is one of the high schools in Fridley, Minnesota. The high school itself is part of Minnesota School District 14, though much of Fridley falls into other districts. The high school shares a street corner with Fridley Middle School. Both facilities operate together and provide mixed curriculum. For instance, the middle school houses the pool and provides "field experience" for seniors thinking about going into education. The high school houses the auditorium which is used by Substance Church and the Fridley Community Theatre as well as the school district. The school has a full range of courses and activities for students in grades 9 through 12. Fridley High, along with the rest of the schools in District 14, has been certified to offer an International Baccalaureate program.

Manomin County was a county in Minnesota that existed separately for about one year from 1857 to 1858. The land shifted hands among three other counties for the next decade. When it was formed, it was the smallest county in the United States at roughly 18 square miles (47 km2). This land area currently makes up the unusual southward extension of Anoka County between Hennepin and Ramsey counties. Manomin is a variant spelling of manoomin, the Ojibwe word for wild rice, a staple of their diet. A current Minnesota county, Mahnomen, carries on the name. The old county was created when it was split from Ramsey County, on May 23, 1857. The county seat was Manomin (present-day Fridley). It was disbanded in 1858 and administratively attached to St. Louis County, Minnesota. Two years later in 1860, it was attached to Anoka County. At the time, the area's population was 136. In 1863, it was attached to Hennepin County, but it was finally merged into Anoka County and eliminated in 1869–1870.

The FMC Corporation (Fridley Plant) is a United States Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site of 18 acres (7.3 ha) in Anoka County, Minnesota, United States, several hundred feet east of the Mississippi River. Solvents, paint sludge, and plating wastes were generated and disposed of in an on-site dump from the 1940s until 1969. Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) staff sampled site surface and groundwater in the early 1980s and confirmed that ground and surface water were contaminated by industrial solvents. In the 1980s, solvents from the site were detected in the city of Minneapolis drinking water system intake that is located downgradient of where the FMC site groundwater contaminant plume enters the river. To address this, the Minneapolis surface water intake was moved further downstream and into the center of the river. Regular sampling of the water from the intake has shown no exceedances of contaminants since the 1980s. Because of the threat posed to Minneapolis drinking water, this site received one of the highest Hazard Ranking System (HRS) scores of all sites on the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL). However, that threat was mitigated by relocating the intake. Cleanup work at the FMC site was initiated in the 1980s, and the groundwater extraction wells that were installed as part of the remedy have been in operation since that time.

Hilltop is a city in Anoka County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 958 at the 2020 census.The city is a small enclave within the city of Columbia Heights and consists of 16 city blocks. Minnesota State Highway 65 (Central Avenue) serves as a main route, running on the town's eastern edge. The majority of the town's residents live in the 263 mobile homes, across four trailer parks, that sit within the city's borders. Hilltop is one of only two incorporated cities in Minnesota that consist primarily of manufactured housing; the second is another Twin Cities suburb, Landfall.

Columbia Heights is a city in Anoka County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 21,973 at the 2020 census.Minnesota State Highways 47 (University Avenue) and 65 (Central Avenue) are two of the main routes in the city. Columbia Heights is a first-ring northern suburb of Minneapolis, which borders it on the south. Its downtown district is centered at the intersection of 40th Avenue NE and Central Avenue, and includes the Heights Theater, county offices, the Public Library, and a variety of businesses. Central Avenue forms a commercial district along its length. More businesses also line University Avenue.

North Mississippi Regional Park is a joint effort of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the Three Rivers Park District and lies within the larger Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. The park, located near the northern border of Minneapolis, Minnesota, borders the western shore of the Mississippi River. Connected to the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway through biking trails, it ties the Anoka County park system to the parkways of Minneapolis. Great blue herons nest in the island trees along the banks. Its intimate enclosed natural setting in the middle of a highly metropolitan area makes the park very attractive to a wide array of people. The park is a great place for people to bask with friends and family in the spring, summer or fall. Wild animals such as deer, fox and badgers can be found along the banks and are seen in late fall.
