Shearwater, Nova Scotia

The Naval Air Station Halifax, also NAS Halifax, was a United States Navy Naval Air Station located in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Royal Canadian Air Force Base Shearwater (ICAO: CYAW), commonly referred to as RCAF Shearwater, was a Canadian Forces base located 4.5 nautical miles (8.3 km; 5.2 mi) east southeast of Shearwater, Nova Scotia, on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Following a base rationalization program in the mid-1990s, the Canadian Forces closed CFB Shearwater as a separate formation and realigned the property's various facilities into CFB Halifax. These include: Shearwater Heliport, which is operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force. The primary RCAF lodger unit is 12 Wing, commonly referred to as 12 Wing Shearwater. 12 Wing provides maritime helicopter operations in support of the Royal Canadian Navy's Atlantic Fleet (MARLANT) from the Shearwater Heliport and Pacific Fleet (MARPAC) from the Patricia Bay Heliport in British Columbia. 12 Wing is also headquartered at Shearwater Heliport. Shearwater Jetty, the former CFB Shearwater Annex, which provides dock facilities in support of Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic and MARLANT warships.

The Shearwater Aviation Museum is an aviation museum located at CFB Shearwater in Shearwater, Nova Scotia. The museum acquires, conserves, organizes, researches and interprets to Canadian Forces personnel and the public at large for their study, education and enjoyment, artifacts and documents which exemplify the history of Canadian maritime military aviation.

Route 322 is a collector road in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It is located in the Halifax Regional Municipality and connects southeastern Dartmouth at Trunk 7 with Cole Harbour at Route 207. The route follows "Pleasant Street" in the former city of Dartmouth from its western terminus at the intersection with Prince Albert Road (Trunk 7) to the old Dartmouth city limit at Woodside. From Shearwater to Eastern Passage Pleasant Street becomes "Main Road." From that point, it follows "Cow Bay Road", "Dyke Road" and "Bissett Road" to its eastern terminus at the intersection with Route 207 (Cole Harbour Road) in Cole Harbour. It is part of the Marine Drive scenic travelway.

Morris Lake is a long shallow lake in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality bordering the communities of Dartmouth, Shearwater and Cole Harbour. The lake is bounded by Shearwater and Portland Estates on the west, Cole Harbour on the east and south, and Portland Hills on the north. The shoreline is mostly developed on the northwest end. The Dartmouth Refinery on the shore of Halifax Harbour draws water from the lake for cooling. CFB Shearwater also uses a portion of the lake for helicopter practice manoeuvres and it also maintains a small recreational beach.

The Dartmouth Refinery is a former oil refinery in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, owned by Imperial Oil. It was located on the eastern side of Halifax Harbour, and the crude oil arrived via ship. It covered some 400 hectares (990 acres) south of central Dartmouth, with the neighbourhood around it being known as Imperoyal.

CFEP-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting in the Halifax, Nova Scotia market and licensed to the inner suburb of Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia at 105.9 MHz. It provides a community radio service. The station was nominated in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 as East Coast Radio Station of the Year by the East Coast Music Association. The station began broadcasting in 2002.On June 3, 2008, CFEP applied to the CRTC to amend the licence by changing the frequency from 94.7 MHz to 105.9 MHz. That application to move to 105.9 MHz was approved on August 19, 2008. On March 13, 2009, CFEP moved from 94.7 to 105.9 FM.CFEP is a member of the National Campus and Community Radio Association.

Cole Harbour 30 is a Mi'kmaq reserve located in Nova Scotia, Canada, in the Halifax Regional Municipality. It is administratively part of the Millbrook First Nation.

Portland Hills is a subdivision in Dartmouth Nova Scotia that is part of the Halifax Regional Municipality. It is located east of Morris Lake and Portland Estates. It formed in 2001-2008 as an extension of the community of Portland Estates along Portland Street (Route 207). The neighbourhood is home to the Portland Hills Centre, which includes Irish themed pub, Finbars. Running through Portland Hills is Birches Park, which includes the Portland Hills Greenway 2.2 kilometre trail.

Imperoyal is a small neighbourhood on the eastern side of Halifax Harbour in the community of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (part of the Halifax Regional Municipality). The area is mostly taken up by the former Dartmouth Refinery and by petroleum storage and transfer facility owned by Irving Oil Limited. A book on the topic is written by John D. Hartley entitled Imperoyal Village.Most of the houses are owned by workers of the oil refinery or by the Canadian Forces in CFB Halifax and nearby Shearwater. The main road is Pleasant Street which is part of Route 322 which is also part of Marine Drive. The area is also known as South Woodside. Fort Clarence, a part of the "Halifax Defence Complex" was located in the present area of the Imperial Oil Refinery. A small display along Pleasant Street marks the place where the fort was.

Eastern Passage is an unincorporated suburban community in Halifax Regional Municipality Nova Scotia, Canada. Eastern Passage has historically been tied to the fishing industry. Its waterfront has several small wharves and piers. The construction of CFB Shearwater, a military air base, at the northern boundary of the community during World War I, and the construction of the Imperial Oil (later Esso), Texaco (later Ultramar) oil refineries, the Volvo Halifax Assembly plant and automobile import/export facility following World War II redefined the local economy. New highway connections have resulted in the majority of area residents commuting to Downtown Halifax or Dartmouth.

Portland Estates is a suburban neighbourhood in Woodlawn, an area of eastern Dartmouth in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. It reaches from Eisener Blvd. in the west, all the way to Portland Hills in the east, and is located to the south of Portland Street (Route 207).
