The Solomon Arter House is a historic two-story, three-bay log home in Union Mills, Carroll County, Maryland, United States. It was built in about 1810 by Solomon Arter, a member of the Arter family that was prominent in the Pennsylvania German culture of this region. The structure is representative of Pennsylvania German domestic architecture in Carroll County, and is significant for the preservation of its interior stenciling. Also on the property is an 1872 bank barn, hogpen, and 1883 frame Victorian tenant house.The Solomon Arter House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.The house lies outside area of the proposed Union Mills Reservoir.

The Solomon Arter House was listed in 1987 and the Philip and Uriah Arter Farm in 2006.Since the 1970s, Carroll County commissioners have tried to build a dam or reservoir centered nearby, defeated in the 1970s and revived in the 2000s as a proposed Union Mills Reservoir. Union Mills plays a central role in Gettysburg: A Novel of the Civil War, a 2003 alternate history novel written by Newt Gingrich and William R. Forstchen.

The Whittaker Chambers Farm, also known as the Pipe Creek Farm, is a historic cluster of farm properties near Westminster in rural Carroll County, Maryland. The farm's historic significance comes from its ownership by Whittaker Chambers (1901-1961), a pivotal figure in American Cold War politics. In December 1948, Chambers hid the "Pumpkin Papers" (microfilm) while awaiting a subpoena from the House Un-American Activities Committee to relinquish any intelligence stolen from the US Government by members of the Soviet spy rings within the federal government (e.g., Alger Hiss). Chambers also wrote his best-selling 1952 memoir Witness there. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1988, in a somewhat controversial decision. The property remains in the Chambers family and is not accessible to the public.

Bear Branch Nature Center is a nature center in Carroll County, Maryland near Westminster. It features interpretive exhibits about local plants and animals, an outdoor water feature and play area, a Discovery Room for children, an observation beehive, live animals including an eagle, hawks, owls, snakes, salamanders, turtles, frogs, and toads, a planetarium and observatory. The center is a facility of Carroll County Recreation & Parks. The nature center is adjacent to Hashawha Environmental Center, a residential facility that is also operated by Carroll County Recreation & Parks. Hashawha Environmental Center is home to Carroll County Public Schools' Outdoor School, a residential environmental education program open to every sixth grade student in the county. The two facilities are located on approximately 320 acres, with more than five miles of multi-use trails, a restored 19th century cabin, a lake, a pond, and access to both Bear Branch and Big Pipe Creek.

The Christian Royer House is a historic home located at Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland, United States. It was built about 1828, and served dual functions as a farmhouse and a Church of the Brethren meeting house. The house is two stories of brick, with a five-bay by two-bay main section and a three-bay long central rear wing. The rear wing features a double-tiered inset porch on both sides in the two bays adjoining the main section of the house. Also on the property are a late 19th-century corn crib and a large 20th-century barn. The features distinguishing this as a meeting house are the double entrance on the main facade, the folding wood-panel partition walls that open to provide single large space and the extensive kitchen facilities.The Christian Royer House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The complex consists of a brick house, a brick privy, a brick smokehouse, a frame barn, a frame hog pen, a frame wagon shed, two poultry houses, and a feed house. The house is a five-by-two-bay brick structure, built in 1861 in the Italianate style. It has a 2+1⁄2-story, six-by-two-bay brick ell on the north side.The John Orendorff Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
