Kinsale, Virginia

Kinsale Historic District is a national historic district located at Kinsale, Westmoreland County, Virginia. The district encompasses 65 contributing buildings in the historic core of the village of Kinsale. The district includes primarily residential and commercial buildings dating from the late-19th to early-20th centuries. Notable resources include the Bailey Cemetery, the Great House (c. 1827) and Little House (c. 1840), Plain View (c. 1872), Captain Charles Courtney House (c. 1880s), former Bank of Kinsale, former Palmer and Moore Kinsale Motor Corporation (c. 1918), Cople District Volunteer Fire Hall Department Building, Kinsale Foundation and Museum, and Kinsale Harbour Yacht Club.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Gardy's Millpond is a 75 acres (30.35 ha) reservoir located in a tranquil setting along the Westmoreland and Northumberland county line in Northeast Virginia.The millpond is relatively shallow with an average depth of about 4 ft (1 m). The upstream portion of the impoundment is swampy and the shoreline is largely forested. Scenic and decorated with lily pads, Gardy's Millpond is a quiet spot to fish for black crappie, bluegill and redear sunfish, bream, chain pickerel, largemouth bass and yellow perch. A new dam was built here soon after Hurricane Bob caused severe damage to the older structure in 1985. The place was subsequently stocked with fish and re-opened to public fishing in 1990.

The name of the town was derived from the name of the first Postmaster, Jacob Callaway, in 1893. Callaway wanted the post office named after himself. However, there was already a town named Callaway in Virginia, so he dropped the "way" and added the "o".Wheatland was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Northern Neck is the northernmost of three peninsulas (traditionally called "necks" in Virginia) on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in the Commonwealth of Virginia (along with the Middle Peninsula and the Virginia Peninsula). The Northern Neck encompasses the following Virginia counties: Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland; it had a total population of 50,158 as of the 2020 census.Commentators vary as to whether to include King George County in the Northern Neck. Historically, Charles II's grant for the Northern Neck included all land between the Rappahannock and Potomac rivers, including far upstream of King George County—some 5 million acres. The boundaries of King George and Westmoreland counties have changed radically since their establishment, with significant exchanges of territory. Significant portions of the early King George County lay in present-day Westmoreland County.

The Northern Neck George Washington Birthplace AVA is an American Viticultural Area in eastern portion of the state of Virginia. Wines made from grapes grown in Westmoreland, King George, Northumberland, Lancaster, and Richmond counties may use this appellation. The area is located on a peninsula of land between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers in the Tidewater region of Virginia and known as the Northern Neck. This provides a climate which features more frost free days than the rest of Virginia. The tip of the Northern Neck is located at the Chesapeake Bay. The hardiness zone is 7b.
