Alby metro station

Alby is a suburb in Botkyrka Municipality within Stockholm. Alby has one of the 100 stations of the Stockholm metro system. Alby, a municipal area in Botkyrka, with a population of approximately 10,000, most of which live in the 3,000 apartments owned by the construction company Botkyrkabyggen.

Norra Botkyrka (North Botkyrka) usually refers to the northern residential areas of Botkyrka Municipality near Stockholm in Sweden. Norra Botkyrka was until the 1970s an agricultural community with only a few inhabitants consisting of a few large estates (Norsborg, Hallunda, Slagsta, Fittja and Alby) and a large protected area around the Lake Bornsjö which was and still is a reserve for the drinking water supply for the city of Stockholm. Within a few years during the 1970s, the municipalities of Stockholm and Botkyrka cooperated to build a "New Town" for more than 30,000 inhabitants. The idea of a new town concept for Norra Botkyrka was influenced by new towns in the United Kingdom. During archeological excavations prior to the building of the "New Town" there were found a number of rock carvings in the Slagsta area indicating that there was an agricultural population here already during the Bronze Age. During excavations conducted under the guidance of the Historic Museum of Stockholm there were found in the Hallunda area Bronze Age dwellings together with a number of bronze smelting hearths and ceramic remains from Central Europe showing that there must have been far reaching trading relations already this early. Already from early historic times the trunkroad from Stockholm to the continent passed through Norra Botkyrka. There are now also four stations on the Stockholm Metro here: Norsborg, Hallunda, Alby and Fittja. The area was made famous in the late 1990s through the local hip hop group called The Latin Kings who often refers to this area in their lyrics. It is also known as one of the most multi-cultural places in Sweden with a majority of the population being first or second generation immigrants. Most of these originate from the Middle East with other significant groups from for example Turkey, Chile, Finland, former Yugoslavia, China, Pakistan and the Horn of Africa. Thus in the 1970s, the municipality of Botkyrka elected the first foreign born mayor in Sweden.

Fittja is a part of Botkyrka Municipality and the name of the Stockholm metro station in the area. It was settled during the 1970s and consists mostly of rental apartments. As of 2008, there were 7,458 people living in Fittja; 64.7% of them were of non-Swedish origin, of whom 25.1% were non-Swedish citizens.Fittja Mosque is also located here. In its 2017 report, Police in Sweden placed the Alby/Fittja district in the most severe category of urban areas with high crime rates.

Fittja metro station is a station on the red line of the Stockholm metro, located in Fittja, Botkyrka Municipality, Sweden. The outdoor station was opened on 1 October 1972 as the south-western terminus of the extension from Vårberg. On 12 January 1975 the line was extended further to Norsborg.The station has a copy of the Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd bronze sculpture Non-Violence, the original of which was made in memory of John Lennon. Under the canopy roof of the entrance to Fittja center hangs two light sculptures of opal-colored plastic created by Eva Rosengren.

Hallunda metro station is a station on the red line of the Stockholm metro, located in Hallunda, Botkyrka Municipality. The station was opened on 12 January 1975 as part of the extension from Fittja to Norsborg. The distance to Slussen is 20.1 km (12.5 mi).

Fittja gård is a former manor, coaching inn and station for post riders in Fittja, Botkyrka Municipality, Stockholm County, east-central Sweden. Fittja Värdshus, attached to it, was one of the largest travellers' hostels in Sweden during the 17th and 18th centuries. From 1660 to 1916 the Tingsrätt (district court) for the Svartlösa Hundred was located on the estate, and the present Fittja gård dates to 1812. According to the Stockholm County Museum, the buildings are well-preserved and valued as a cultural heritage. Fittja gård is the headquarters of a mångkulturellt centrum (multicultural centre) founded in 1987.

The Fittja Mosque (Swedish: Fittja moské) is a mosque in Fittja, Botkyrka Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. It was constructed with Turkish-style architecture.The mosque, which began to be constructed in 1998 and was completed in April 2007, is owned by the Islamic Cultural Association in Botkyrka, a mainly Turkish association with more than 1,500 members. The mosque is built in Turkish-style architecture, with a windowed mid-dome with birch wood panel and hand-painted tiles that cover the walls of the prayer room. The mosque minaret is 32.5 meters high. In the central prayer room, the women have their place of prayer on a 200 square meter high stand. The mosque also houses the residence of the imam of the assembly.In February 2013, the Botkyrka Islamic Cultural Association filed an application to the police to begin broadcasting the prayer calls from the Fittja Mosque. Since this is about repeated audio broadcast in public places, the case was with the police. According to the Islamic Society in Botkyrka, their request was for a short prayer call of 2-3 minutes, once a week, not five times a day as normal in Muslim-majority countries. In April 2013, the police authority issued a time-limited license, which was valid until March 20, 2014. The conditions for the permit were that the speakers, placed at the height of the balcony on the outside of the minaret, were to be directed only to three weather lines and that the noise level did not exceed 60 decibels.On April 26, 2013, at 12:57, it was the first time in Sweden that a prayer call from a minaret could be heard. This was performed live, not via a recording, by the imam Ergin Öcgem through the microphone and the minaret speaker.

Vårbyfjärden (Swedish for "inlet of Vårby") is a strait in south-eastern Lake Mälaren south-west of Stockholm in Sweden. Vårbyfjärden separates Ekerö island and Ekerö Municipality north of it, from Södertälje and Huddinge Municipalities south of it and Stockholm Municipality on its western side. Albysjön (Swedish for "Lake Alby") is a lake forming part of Lake Mälaren. It separates Botkyrka Municipality and Huddinge Municipality in south-western Stockholm, Sweden. The lake, which is filling a geological fault, has steep cliffs along the western shore. To the north it connects to Vårbyfjärden through the narrow strait Fittja näset. It is an important recreational area for inhabitants in the neighbouring suburbs Alby, Vårby gård, and Myrstuguberget, as well as for a large number of other visitors attracted by the Flottsbro Open-air Area and its bath in the southern end of the lake.
