Chapel in the Hills

The Black Hills Flood of 1972, also known as the Rapid City Flood, was the most detrimental flood in South Dakota history, and one of the deadliest floods in U.S. history. The flood took place on June 9–10, 1972 in the Black Hills of Western South Dakota. 15 inches (380 mm) of rain in a small area over the Black Hills caused Rapid Creek and other waterways to overflow. Severe flooding of residential and commercial properties in Rapid City occurred when Canyon Lake Dam became clogged with debris and failed in the late evening hours of June 9 resulting in 238 deaths and 3,057 injuries. Over 1,335 homes and 5,000 automobiles were destroyed. The value of property damage was estimated to be over US$160 million in 1972 dollars ($1.12 billion in 2022 dollars). Flooding also occurred in Battle, Spring, Bear Butte, and Boxelder creeks.

The Cassidy House is located at 4121 Canyon Lake Drive in Rapid City, South Dakota and is on the National Register of Historic Places. This unique home is a Lustron house. From 1947 to 1950, Lustron manufactured enameled steel homes. Lustron was founded by Carl Strandlund, who was a Swedish-born American inventor and entrepreneur. All the parts for the homes were manufactured in a factory in Ohio, then they were shipped to the site where they could be quickly assembled. The Cassidy House is one of only 24 Lustron Newport homes ever manufactured by the Lustron Corporation. The Newport was a two bedroom, one bath home. The total square footage of the home is 713 square feet. Unlike the earlier Westchester models, the Newport had gas forced air heating. The Newport was also known as model 023. It is significantly less common than the Lustron Westchester model. The original color of the Cassidy House was surf blue. The Cassidy House was repainted in 2021 to closely match the original color. The Cassidy House was placed on the National Register in 1998 due to its significance of post-World War II housing and manufacturing innovations. It is the only existing Lustron Newport model in the state of South Dakota.The Cassidy House was assembled on site in Rapid City in March 1950. A permit for construction was issued on February 28, 1950. The permit allowed one month for completion of construction. This particular home maintains the unique steel panel exterior, original steel shingled roof, steel gutters, and original aluminum windows.

Stevens High School is one of three public high schools in Rapid City, South Dakota, United States. The school opened in November 1969, and has an enrollment of approximately 1600 students. The school is situated in the foothills of South Dakota's Black Hills on the city's western outskirts. The school colors are blue and silver, and the school teams and organizations are known as the "Raiders".

John Witherspoon College is a non-denominational Christian liberal arts college in Rapid City, South Dakota. The college was founded in 2012 and named after the pastor, scholar and American Founding Father John Witherspoon. The college was created to serve both a local need for Christian higher education in the Black Hills and the broader interest for classic liberal-arts education in America.

The Rapid City Indian Health Service Hospital formerly known as The Sioux San Hospital is an Indian Health Service hospital located in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was built in 1898 as a boarding school for Native Americans and turned into a sanitarium in 1933.

Colonial Pine Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in Pennington County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,903 at the 2020 census.

Storybook Island is a children's amusement park in Rapid City, South Dakota with playgrounds and attractions based on locations and various characters found in children's books. The Park was founded in 1959 by Merle Gunderson in association with the Rapid City Rotary Club. The park is free admission to the general public and relies on donations from its visitors and the community. The park is open Memorial weekend through Labor Day.

Camp Rapid is a South Dakota Army National Guard installation located in Westside, Rapid City, South Dakota just inside the edge of the Black Hills. Although the South Dakota state capital is Pierre, South Dakota, the state's Adjutant General has his office and headquarters in Camp Rapid.

Victoria Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It is located in the Black Hills, near Rapid City, which is north-northeast of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.Some say the creek took the name of a local mining company, while others believe the creek has the name of Queen Victoria.

KIQK (104.1 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Rapid City, South Dakota, United States, the station serves the Rapid City area. The station is currently owned by Haugo Broadcasting, Inc.

KZLK (106.3 FM, "Z106.3") is a commercial radio station licensed to Rapid City, South Dakota. As of January 1, 2019, the station is owned by Riverfront Broadcasting, LLC of Yankton, South Dakota. It's broadcasting an 80's hits format.

KTEQ-FM (91.3 FM, "K-Tech") is the campus radio station of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T) in Rapid City, South Dakota. The station broadcasts a variety of music formats according to the tastes of the volunteer DJs doing the shows. The only restriction that KTEQ places on the formats of the shows is that the music cannot be Top 40 music. The station was off the air for nearly 13 1/2 years following the loss of its Non-commercial educational broadcast license but returned to air on March 8, 2014. Besides broadcasting over-the-air, the station's programming is also transmitted over channel 6 of the cable television system on the SDSM&T campus and through Internet streaming.
