George Mason University (George Mason, Mason, or GMU) is a public research university in Fairfax County, Virginia. The university was originally founded in 1949 as a Northern Virginia regional branch of the University of Virginia. Named after Founding Father of the United States George Mason in 1959, it became an independent university in 1972. The school has since grown into the largest public university in the Commonwealth of Virginia.The university operates four campuses in Virginia, which are located in Fairfax, Arlington, Front Royal, and Prince William Counties. It also operates a retreat and conference center in Lorton and an international campus in Incheon, South Korea. The university's flagship campus is in Fairfax, Virginia. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity." Two professors, James M. Buchanan in 1986 and Vernon L. Smith in 2002, were awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics during their time at George Mason University.EagleBank Arena, a 10,000-seat arena and concert venue operated by the university, is located on the Fairfax campus. The university recognizes 500 student groups and 41 fraternities and sororities.

EagleBank Arena (originally the Patriot Center) is a 10,000-seat arena in the eastern United States, on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, a suburb southwest of Washington, D.C. Opened 38 years ago in 1985, it is the home of Patriot men's & women's basketball, and is a venue for concerts and family shows, with 17,000 square feet (1,600 m2) of space. EagleBank Arena has attracted 9.6 million people to over 2,958 events to GMU, which has over 30,000 students. In 2010, the Patriot Center was ranked seventh nationwide and twelfth worldwide according to ticket sales for venues with capacities between 10,001 and 15,000 by trade publication Venues Today. Also in 2010, the Patriot Center was ranked No. 8 nationwide and No. 18 worldwide according to top grossing venues with a capacity between 10,001 and 15,000 by Billboard magazine.On May 7, 2015, the university announced that the name would be changed on July 1 to "EagleBank Arena at George Mason University", following a partnership deal with EagleBank.The Patriot Center is the first university venue to be managed by a private company, Monumental Sports & Entertainment, who also owns and manages Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

George Mason is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 9,496. It consists of George Mason University and some adjacent neighborhoods to the south and southwest of the city of Fairfax, and is named for American Founding Father George Mason.

The Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study brings together researchers from many disciplines to study the phenomenon known as the mind. A unit of George Mason University, the Krasnow Institute also serves as a center for doctoral education in neuroscience. James W. Robinson, Jr. Secondary School is a six-year public school in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the United States. Known as Robinson Secondary School, it is located in Fairfax County, a suburb southwest of Washington, D.C. Opened 52 years ago in 1971, Robinson is located south of Braddock Road near George Mason University, and is administered by the Fairfax County Public Schools. It offers the International Baccalaureate program, and has approximately 3,900 students in grades 7–12. Robinson's school colors are royal blue and gold, and the school mascot is a ram.

George Mason Stadium is a 5,000-seat stadium in Fairfax, Virginia on the campus of George Mason University. It serves as the home to George Mason's soccer and lacrosse teams.The stadium hosted the first home game for the Washington Bayhawks as a Washington, D.C.-based franchise on May 12, 2007, with other games placed at Georgetown's Multi-Sport Field. In 2008, George Mason Stadium hosted all but one Bayhawks home game.

Raymond H. "Hap" Spuhler Field is a baseball venue in Fairfax, Virginia, United States. It is home to the George Mason Patriots baseball team of the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference. Opened in 1986, it has a capacity of 900 spectators. It is named for Raymond H. "Hap" Spuhler, the first head coach of George Mason's baseball program.

St. Mary of the Sorrows is a Roman Catholic parish located in Fairfax, Virginia. It is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Arlington Virginia. Although most of the parish's services are conducted at its primary worship center in Fairfax, the parish also celebrates several Masses each week at St. Mary's Historic Church in Fairfax Station, its original place of worship.

Fairfax Public School, also known as the Old Fairfax Elementary School Annex, is a historic school building located at Fairfax, Virginia. It consists of two sections built in 1873 and 1912, and is a two-story, brick building. The original section lies at the rear of the building, which was later fronted by the two-story, rectangular, hipped roof section. The front facade features a one-story, Classical Revival style portico supported by three fluted Doric order columns at each corner. The building now houses the Fairfax Museum and Visitors Center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The Ratcliffe–Logan–Allison House is a historic home located at Fairfax, Virginia. It is commonly and historically known as Earp's Ordinary, as the structure is an expansion of the original Earp's Ordinary, a late 18th Century building used as a tavern and store by Caleb Earp. It consists of two sections built about 1810 and about 1830, and is a small two-story, single pile brick building. A two-story rear wing connected by a hyphen was added in the 20th century. A postal station and stage coach stop operated from the building in the 1820s-1830s.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It is located in the City of Fairfax Historic District. The house is owned and operated as a historic house museum by the City of Fairfax.
