Cathedral of Mérida, Yucatán

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Yucatán (Latin: Archidioecesis Yucatanensis) is the diocese of the Catholic Church based in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico; the Campeche and the Tabasco are its suffragans. Its area is that of the state of the same name, covering an area of 17,204 square miles.

The Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (Autonomous University of Yucatan), or UADY, is an autonomous public university in the state of Yucatán, Mexico, with its central campuses located in the state capital of Mérida. It is the largest tertiary educational institution (Spanish: educación superior) in the state, offering some 41 different courses at the undergraduate or Bachelor's degree (licenciatura) level, and 26 postgraduate Master's degrees (maestrías). The institution was established in 1922 by then governor Felipe Carrillo Puerto as the Universidad Nacional del Sureste, but its lineage may be traced back to a Spanish Empire royal decree promulgated in 1611, that allowed for the creation of the Colegio de San Francisco Javier in Mérida.

The Museum of the City of Merida (Spanish: Museo de la Ciudad de Mérida), located in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, is home to artifacts and archeological pieces of historical relevance to the development of the city, from pre-Hispanic to contemporary times. The building in which the museum lies is also of historical importance, since it dates back to the period of the Porfiriate.

Mérida (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈmeɾiða] ) is the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán, and the largest city in southeastern Mexico. The city is also the seat of the eponymous municipality. It is located in the northwest corner of the Yucatán Peninsula, about 35 km (22 mi) inland from the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. In 2020 it had a population of 921,770 while its metropolitan area, which also includes the cities of Kanasín and Umán, had a population of 1,316,090.Mérida is also the cultural and financial capital of the Yucatán Peninsula. The city's rich cultural heritage is a product of the syncretism of the Maya and Spanish cultures during the colonial era. The Cathedral of Mérida, Yucatán was built in the late 16th century with stones from nearby Maya ruins and is the oldest cathedral in the mainland Americas. The city has the third largest old town district on the continent. It was the first city to be named American Capital of Culture, and the only city that has received the title twice.Mérida is among the safest cities of Mexico as well as in the Americas. In 2015, the city was certified as an International Safe Community by the Karolinska Institute of Sweden for its high level of public security. Forbes magazine has ranked Mérida three times as one of the three best cities in Mexico to live, invest and do business. In 2022, the UN-Habitat's City Prosperity Index recognized Mérida as the city with the highest quality of life in Mexico.

The Republic of Yucatán (Spanish: República de Yucatán) was a sovereign state during two periods of the nineteenth century. The first Republic of Yucatán, founded May 29, 1823, willingly joined the Mexican federation as the Federated Republic of Yucatán on December 23, 1823, less than seven months later. The second Republic of Yucatán began in 1841, with its declaration of independence from the Centralist Republic of Mexico. It remained independent for seven years, after which it rejoined the United Mexican States. The area of the former republic includes the modern Mexican states of Yucatán, Campeche and Quintana Roo. The Republic of Yucatán usually refers to the second republic (1841–1848). The Republic of Yucatán was governed by the Constitution of 1841 which guaranteed individual rights, religious freedom and what was then a new legal form called amparo (English: protection). The 1847 Caste War caused the Republic of Yucatán to request military aid from Mexico. This was given on the condition that the Republic rejoin the Mexican Federation.

The 6th federal electoral district of Yucatán (Spanish: Distrito electoral federal 06 de Yucatán) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of six such districts in the state of Yucatán. It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the third region. Created by the National Electoral Institute (INE) as part of the 2023 redistricting process, it was first contested in the 2024 general election. The inaugural member for the district, elected in June 2024, is Jessica Saiden Quiroz of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena).

The 4th federal electoral district of Yucatán (Spanish: Distrito electoral federal 04 de Yucatán) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of six such districts in the state of Yucatán. It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the third region. Created as part of the 1977 electoral reforms, it was first contested in the 1979 mid-term election. The current member for the district, elected in the 2024 general election, is María Isabel Rodríguez Heredia of the National Action Party (PAN).

The 3rd federal electoral district of Yucatán (Spanish: Distrito electoral federal 03 de Yucatán) is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of six such districts in the state of Yucatán. It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the third region. The current member for the district, elected in the 2024 general election, is Óscar Iván Brito Zapata of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena).

Centro is one of the regions of Yucatán, Mexico. Mérida is the capital of Yucatán, Mexico, and it is located in the central part of the state. It was home to the Mayas. Centro Yucatán is the third municipal region of the State of Yucatán.

The Museo de la Canción Yucateca Asociación Civil (Museum of the Yucatecan Song) is a museum located in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Founded in 1978, its mission is to rescue, preserve and promote the characteristic music and cultural background from the Yucatán Peninsula. The museum was conceived by Mrs. Rosario Cáceres Baqueiro, granddaughter of the creator of "trova yucateca", Cirilo Baqueiro Preve, better known as Chan Cil. It is located in an old colonial style house that was built at the end of the 19th century, in the neighborhood of La Mejorada in the center of the city; the house was donated to the museum in 2001. The building was restored in 2015 at a cost of 20 million pesos. The courtyard has full size statues of singers Pepe Domínguez, Guty Cárdenas and Ricardo Palmerín. There is a theater, and displays include musical instruments, phonographs, musical scores, photographs, paintings, and sculptures.
