Waldomore

The Waldo Hotel in Clarksburg, West Virginia was built between 1901 and 1904 by real estate developer, U.S. Senator, Congressman, judge, lawyer, and Republican Party leader Nathan Goff, Jr. Built right across from his family home which is also still standing and currently used as a library called Waldomore, and Named for his father, Waldo P. Goff. Clarksburg was experiencing a period of rapid growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, driven by the booming coal industry. Goff Jr. saw the hotel as a way to attract new businesses and residents to the city, further solidifying its position as a regional hub. Goff Jr. was a man of considerable wealth and ambition. He envisioned the Waldo Hotel as a symbol of his own success and a testament to his family's legacy in Clarksburg. Clarksburg lacked a large, upscale hotel to accommodate its growing business traveler population and social events. The Waldo Hotel was designed to fill this gap and provide a luxurious venue for meetings, banquets, and other gatherings.

Clarksburg Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 119 contributing buildings in 16 blocks of the central business district of Clarksburg. It includes an extraordinary variety of architectural types and styles including Renaissance Revival and Italianate. Notable buildings include the Goff Building (1911), Municipal Building (1888) [demolished], the Waldo Hotel (1901–1904), Robinson Grand (1912, 1940), Harrison County Courthouse (1931-1932), U.S. Post Office (1932), Masonic Temple (1911–1914), Merchant's National Bank (1894), First United Presbyterian Church (1894), and First Methodist Church (1909, 1956). Located in the district and separately listed are Waldomore and the Stealey-Goff-Vance House. The Nathan Goff, Jr. House was delisted in 1994. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Nathan Goff Jr. House is a former historic home located at Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. It was built between 1880 and 1883, and was a three-story brick dwelling in a combined Queen Anne / Second Empire style. It featured a slate-covered mansard roof. It was the home of Nathan Goff Jr. (1843–1920) and his son Guy D. Goff (1866–1933), who both served as United States senators from West Virginia.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It was delisted in 1994, after demolition in 1993.

Glen Elk Historic District is a national historic district located at Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 131 contributing buildings north of the central business district of Clarksburg. The area was developed after 1898, and contains a mixture of residential and commercial buildings. They include commercial warehouses built of brick and stone, small commercial buildings, housing specialty shops and eateries, and frame dwellings. Located in the district is the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Depot (1903).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Washington Irving High School is a public secondary school located in Clarksburg, West Virginia. The school operated as a high school from 1914 until 1995; since 1996, it has operated as a middle school, housing grades 6 thru 8.Better known as WI, the school's mascot is the Hilltopper. The school's colors are blue and gold. The school is named after Washington Irving, a 19th-century American author and historian.

Clarksburg is a city in and the county seat of Harrison County, West Virginia, United States, in the north-central region of the state. The population of the city was 16,039 at the 2020 census, making it the tenth-largest city in West Virginia. It is the principal city of the Clarksburg micropolitan area, which had a population of 90,434 in 2020. Clarksburg was named National Small City of the Year in 2011 by the National League of Cities.

The Stealey–Goff–Vance House, also known as the Amy Roberts Vance House, is a historic home located at Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. It was originally built about 1807, and is a gable roofed two-story brick dwelling. It sits on a high coursed rubble foundation. The house was remodeled about 1891, with the addition of Victorian embellishment. These modifications include the front gable, porch, and ornate cornice millwork. The house was purchased in 1933 by Amy Roberts Vance, mother of Cyrus Vance. In 1967, the property was sold to the Harrison County Historical Society.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Trinity Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, also known as Trinity Methodist Church, was a historic Methodist Episcopal church at 420 Ben Street in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. It was built in 1902, and was a modest late-Victorian Gothic-Romanesque style brick structure. It was a two-story rectangular building with a slate covered gable roof. It featured a three-story, square bell tower with an open belfry.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Since that time, it has been demolished.

Kelly Miller High School was a 'colored' or 'negro' high school in Clarksburg, West Virginia operated from 1903 until school desegregation in 1956. The school was named in honor of Kelly Miller, an African American mathematician, sociologist, essayist, newspaper columnist, author, and an important figure in the intellectual life of black America for close to half a century. At the time, Miller was Howard University Dean of the college of Arts and Sciences, and traveled to Clarksburg to discuss education as a way to help African Americans. The black community of Clarksburg decided to change the name of the school that same year, 1920, from Water Street 'colored' School to Kelly Miller 'colored' School. The school colors were black and orange, and the team was the Kelly Miller Yellow Jackets. The school's building has been the location of the central offices for the Harrison County Board of Education since 1982. The future of this building is in limbo as the board offices are planning to move to the former Gore Middle School which is a newer recently closed structure.

Notre Dame High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Clarksburg, West Virginia. It is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston.

Quality Hill Historic District is a national historic district located at Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 33 contributing buildings in the East Main Street and Jackson Square areas. They are mostly residential buildings date from 1880 to 1910. The oldest dates from about 1850, the Burton Despard house. They reflect a variety of popular architectural styles from the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Notable buildings include the Maxwell-Duncan House (c. 1872), Virgil Highland House (1903-1905), and Robinson-Haynes House/American Red Cross (1895-1897).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
