Black Rock Lock

Buffalo Smelting Works is a historic copper smelting complex located in the Black Rock neighborhood of Buffalo in Erie County, New York. It was built in 1891, and consists of a twinned, 2 1/2-story, brick building. It is topped by pitched roofs and clerestories. The industrial building reflects Romanesque Revival design. The building is the only element left from the smelting complex originally built by the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company. The property was acquired by the American Radiator Company in 1920, and is now part of a marina.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

House at 218 Dearborn Street is a historic home located in the Black Rock neighborhood of Buffalo in Erie County, New York. It was built about 1880, and is a one-story, wood-frame shotgun-style workers cottage on a limestone foundation. It is three bays wide and has a low pitched gable roof. It features a hipped roof front porch with decorative spandrels, added about 1890. Also on the property is a shed dated to about 1890.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Eberz House is a historic home located in the Black Rock neighborhood of Buffalo in Erie County, New York. It was built about 1892, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, wood-frame Queen Anne-style dwelling on a stone foundation. It features a highly decorated front porch with turned spindlework and textured surfaces. The Eberz family rented rooms for visitors to the Pan-American Exposition in 1901.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The Dayton House is a historic home located at 243 Dearborn Street, in the Black Rock neighborhood of Buffalo, Erie County, New York. It was the home of Lewis P. Dayton (1821–1900), noted physician and Mayor of the City of Buffalo, New York, serving 1874–1875. The house has been dated to about 1840 in the Georgian style. It received an Italianate update in the 1870s and is an excellent example of canal era prosperity. It is the only remaining brick residence of its style in Black Rock.In 2011 the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Market Square Historic District is a national historic district located in the Black Rock neighborhood of Buffalo in Erie County, New York. The district encompasses 15 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in a mixed residential and commercial section of Buffalo. The district developed between about 1830 and 1912, and includes a buildings in a variety of architectural styles including Federal, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman. Located in the district is the separately listed St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Parish Complex. Other notable contributing resources include the Market Square (1830), Black Rock Savings and Loan (1870-1910), Firehouse Engine #15 (1912), Smith House and Tavern (c. 1830-1835), St. John's Church (1894), and Howell House and Store (c. 1830, c. 1910).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Parish Complex is a historic former Roman Catholic church complex located in Buffalo in Erie County, New York.

Black Rock, once an independent municipality, is now a neighborhood of the northwest section of the city of Buffalo, New York. In the 1820s, Black Rock was the rival of Buffalo for the terminus of the Erie Canal, but Buffalo, with its larger harbor capacity and greater distance from the shores of Canada, a recent antagonist during the War of 1812, won the competition. Black Rock took its name from a large outcropping of black limestone along the Niagara River, which was blasted away in the early 1820s to make way for the canal.

McVan’s Nightclub (sometimes referred to as McVAN's Nite Club or McVan’s Rock Palace or Castle) was a supper club and live music venue in Buffalo, New York, located at the corner of Niagara Street and Hertel Avenue. It operated from 1922 until 1984. Over its decades of operation, McVan’s evolved from a supper‐club entertainment venue featuring jazz and blues artists of the day such as Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Art Tatum to rock acts such as Jimi Hendrix, and later became a focal point of Buffalo’s original rock, punk, and alternative music scenes.

The International Railway Bridge is a two-span swing bridge carrying the Stamford Subdivision of the Canadian National Railway across the Niagara River between Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, and Buffalo, New York, United States. It was originally built in 1873 for the International Bridge Company by Casimir Stanislaus Gzowski and D.L. MacPherson.The bridge consists of two sections, the first extending from the Canadian shore to Unity Island (formerly known as Squaw Island), and the second extending from Unity Island to the American mainland shore. The portion between these was originally built on a trestle, and was filled to form an embankment soon after the bridge opened. Once on the American mainland, rail traffic is received by the Black Rock Rail Yard. The former CN Rail Fort Erie Yard for interchange (shops and roundhouse) is closed.

The Battle of Buffalo (also known as the Battle of Black Rock) took place during the War of 1812 on December 30, 1813, in the State of New York, near the Niagara River. The British forces drove off the American defenders and destroyed many buildings and ships. The operation was retaliation for American troops burning the Canadian village of Newark (present day Niagara-on-the-Lake).

Scajaquada Creek ( skə-JAH-kwə-də) is a stream in Erie County, New York, United States. The name is derived from Philip Kenjockety, a Native American described as the oldest resident of the region upon his death in 1808.The creek lends its name to the Scajaquada Expressway, New York State Route 198, a highway that briefly adjoins the creek's southern shore. A bike path follows the creek's northern shore most of the way from Delaware Park to the Niagara River. Buffalo State College, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Buffalo History Museum overlook Scajaquada Creek.

Unity Island is an approximately 160-acre (0.65 km2) island separating the Niagara River and the Black Rock Canal, located within the city limits of Buffalo, New York. The historic island is home to two public parks and a water treatment facility. It is connected to the mainland by a two-span swing bridge.The island's original name in the Seneca language is Deyowenoguhdoh. From about the time of the War of 1812 to July 2015, the island was also known by the English name, Squaw Island. In June 2015, after being petitioned by Jodi Lynn Maracle, a Mohawk resident of Buffalo, and members of the Seneca Nation of New York, who considered the name to be racist and derogatory toward Native American women, the members of the Buffalo Common Council voted unanimously to change the island's name to Unity Island. The new name was formally adopted by the city in October 2015, with new signs reflecting the name change were installed on the island; the U.S. Board on Geographic Names recognized the new name in May 2017.
