As of the 2020 census the population was 506.Hunterstown is located along Pennsylvania Route 394 (Shrivers Corner Road), 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Gettysburg. The Hunterstown Historic District and Great Conewago Presbyterian Church are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.During the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 there was a brief cavalry skirmish at Hunterstown, today known as the Battle of Hunterstown.

Located in the district is the separately listed Great Conewago Presbyterian Church.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

It is covered in wooden clapboard siding and sits on a rubble stone foundation. The original section dates to about 1765, with a "back building" addition built between about 1786 and 1812 and a two-story addition built between about 1825 and 1830.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
