Indian River (Florida)

Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge is a United States National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), and part of the Everglades Headwaters NWR complex, located just off the western coast of North Hutchinson Island in the Indian River Lagoon east of Sebastian, Florida. The refuge consists of a 3-acre (12,000 m2) island that includes an additional 2.5 acres (10,000 m2) of surrounding water and is located off the east coast of Florida of the Indian River Lagoon. Established by an executive order of President Theodore Roosevelt on March 14, 1903, Pelican Island was the first National wildlife refuge in the United States. It was created to protect egrets and other birds from extinction through plume hunting.

Sebastian Inlet State Park is a Florida state park located 10 miles south of Melbourne Beach and 6 miles north of Vero Beach in Florida. The park lies on both sides of the Sebastian Inlet, which forms the boundary between Brevard and Indian River counties. The land for the park was acquired by the state of Florida in 1971. In 2010, it was the second most visited state park in Florida.

Mel Fisher's Treasure Museum is located at 1322 U.S. Highway 1, Sebastian, Florida. It houses exhibits on archaeology and the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet. Taffi Fisher, Mel Fisher’s daughter, opened the museum in December 1992 in an old abandoned fire station after renovating the building. The museum included a working conservation laboratory used to preserve artifacts recovered from underwater with an observation window for viewing conservation work from inside the museum.

The Old Town Sebastian Historic District, East is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on August 4, 2003) located in Sebastian, Florida. The district is bounded by Main and Washington Streets, Riverside Drive, and the FEC Railroad. It contains 13 historic buildings.

The Bamma Vickers Lawson House (also known as the Lawson House or Parris Lawson House) is a historic house located at 1133 U.S. Route 1 in Sebastian, Florida.

The Archie Smith Wholesale Fish Company is a historic site in Sebastian, Florida, United States. It is located at 1740 Indian River Drive. On October 28, 1994, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.The building was built in 1926 and purchased by Archie Smith in 1927, who established a fishing business there. The site included an expanded house, a shed for net storage, a crab house, a fish house, and extensive docks. The business office was built in 1927, and the ice house (originally Old Roseland Railroad Depot) was built in 1931.The business remained in the family until the 2004 hurricanes (especially Frances & Jeanne) caused significant damages to the site. In 2006, the Indian River County Board of Commissioners paid $1.5 million to purchase the property, in hopes of restoring the building and preserving it.In late 2021, the floor of the ice house caved-in, and it was taken down by the county in March 2022.

The Old Town Sebastian Historic District West is a United States historic district (designated as such on January 6, 2004) located in Sebastian, Florida. The district is bounded by Palmetto Ave, Lake and Main Streets. It contains 15 historic buildings.

The Sebastian Grammar and Junior High School (also known as the Sebastian Elementary School) is a historic school in Sebastian, Florida. It is located at 1235 Main Street. On August 17, 2001, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The building is part of the Sebastian City Hall complex and currently houses a museum.

The Sebastian Inlet Bridge is a high concrete bridge. It spans the Indian River outlet which is also referred to as the Sebastian Inlet. It carries State Road A1A between Indian River County and Brevard County. The bridge was built by Cleary Brothers Construction Company, West Palm Beach, Florida, and was completed in 1964. A fishing-walking pier is constructed below the bridge and goes out the inlet along the jetty to the Atlantic. The bridge has a total length of 1,548 feet (472 m) with a main span of 180 feet (55 m). The vertical clearance is 37 feet (11 m). The Legislature of Florida dedicated the bridge to Robert W. Graves in 1965. In 2004 it was dedicated to James H. Pruitt. The bridge was deemed "structurally deficient" by the FDOT, as a result of Hurricane Dorian. Officials recommended the 55-year-old bridge be repaired within six years as of 2019.

Sebastian Inlet, located in Sebastian Inlet State Park in Brevard County, Florida and Indian River County, Florida, offers surfing and fishing opportunities. It is off State Road A1A just 12 miles north of Vero Beach. There are annual surf tournaments, professional and amateur. Visitors fish there, particularly for Snook and Redfish.

Roseland is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Indian River County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,472 at the 2010 census, down from 1,775 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Sebastian–Vero Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Saint Sebastian River is a river in the U.S. state of Florida, a tributary of the Indian River west and north of the city of Sebastian.
