Leighlinbridge

Leighlinbridge Castle, also called Black Castle, is in the village of Leighlinbridge, County Carlow, Ireland, on the River Barrow. The early castle was built c.1181 for the Normans. In the 1540s a Carmelite friary was converted into a new fort by Edward Bellingham. The remains of the castle are now dilapidated - a 50-foot-tall (15 m) broken castle tower and parts of one side of an enclosing wall are still extant.

Royal Oak (Irish: An Dair Ríoga) is a small village in County Carlow, Ireland. It is on the west side of the River Barrow, across from Bagenalstown, and is off the former N9 road (now R448 road from Naas to Waterford). It is not in or a part of Bagenalstown. Royal Oak is within the townland of Clorusk (from Irish Cloch Rusc, meaning 'stone house of the moor/marsh').

Old Leighlin (Irish: Seanleithghlinn), also Oldleighlin, is a village, civil parish and townland in County Carlow, Ireland. The village is 3.5 km (2 mi) west of Leighlinbridge. The site was at one time one of the foremost monastic houses in Leinster, with 1500 monks in residence. It was the location for a church synod in AD 630, which decided that the Irish church should follow Roman as opposed to Celtic dating conventions for determining the date of Easter.St Laserian's Cathedral was the cathedral of the diocese of Leighlin, now merged with neighbouring dioceses in the Church of Ireland. It is named after Molaise of Leighlin and was built on the site of an old monastic church founded here in 632 AD. It is one of the smallest Irish medieval cathedrals. Nearby are a holy well, which is still venerated, and small granite undecorated wheeled high cross with edge mouldings.Old Leighlin gave its name to a constituency in the pre-1800 Irish House of Commons. It was a bishop's borough where the Church of Ireland Bishop of Ferns and Leighlin controlled the selection of the two Members of Parliament.

St Laserian's Cathedral, Old Leighlin, previously the cathedral of the Diocese of Leighlin, is now one of the six cathedral churches in the Diocese of Cashel and Ossory of the Church of Ireland. It is situated on the site of a mediaeval monastery in the village of Old Leighlin, County Carlow, Ireland, some 12 km south of Carlow town in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin.

Nurney Cross is a stone cross located in Nurney, County Carlow, Ireland, and is an early example of a high cross. The site was a monastic site founded by Abbán in the 5th century AD and the cross is believed to date from that time.

Paulstown (Irish: Baile Phóil) (also known as Poulstown or Polestown) is a small village in County Kilkenny in Ireland. Paulstown is located at the (northern) junction of the N9 and N10 National primary roads. It is 21 km south of Carlow and 19 km east of Kilkenny. Scoil Bhride is the primary school in Paulstown. Shankill Gardens & Castle is a point of interest. Paulstown parish is in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. The 200-year-old Church of the Assumption is the local Catholic church in the parish of Muinebheag/Bagenalstown.

Shankill Castle and Gardens is set in parkland near Paulstown on the Carlow/Kilkenny border. Visitors are invited to walk in the grounds and gardens, and there are guided tours of the house. Shankill Castle started as a Butler tower-house near the ruins of an old church. Peter Aylward bought the lands from his wife's family, the Butlers, in 1708, and it was rebuilt and set in a formal landscape with a vista to the front and canal to the rear. In the 19th century, it was enlarged and castellated, serpentine bays added to the canal, and an unusual polyhedral sundial given a place of pride on a sunken lawn. Other additions were a gothic porch bearing the Aylward crest and a conservatory. The stable-yard and the castellated entrance to the demesne are attributed to Daniel Robertson. The interior preserves much of its 18th-century character and features including a Georgian staircase, Gothic plasterwork, and a Victorian drawing-room. A branch of the Butler family, the Toler-Aylwards resided at Shankill until 1991 and some still live in the area of Kilkenny. Shankill is now home to the artist Elizabeth Cope and her husband Geoffrey. They have three children Phoebe Cope McCosh, Reuben Cope, and Sybil Cope. Shankill Castle hosts a residency programme for artists and creative professionals through ResArtis.

Ballymoon Castle (Irish: Caisleán Baile Muáin) is a National Monument situated 2 miles (3 km) east of Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Ireland. The castle is thought to date from the 13th century.
