The Frieda Fromm-Reichmann Cottage is a historic house located at 19 Thomas Street in Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland. It was built in 1936 to house the residence and professional office of Frieda Fromm-Reichmann, one of the leading psychoanalysts at the Chestnut Lodge psychiatric hospital, on whose grounds it stood. Fromm-Reichmann (1899-1957) was influential in the development of interpersonal psychoanalysis and its use in the treatment of schizophrenia. The cottage was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2021.

The West Montgomery Avenue Historic District is a national historic district located at Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland. It is a residential area with single-family homes predominating. The majority of the properties within the district date from the 1880s, with a few older homes and somewhat more from later periods. The predominant character of the district is set by the rows of Victorian houses built between 1880 and 1900 in a vernacular residential mode with Eastlake and Stick Style influences. Also included in the district are attorneys' offices; churches and parsonages; a funeral home; the former Woodlawn Hotel, later called the Chestnut Lodge Sanitarium (destroyed by fire, June 7, 2009); and the headquarters of the Montgomery County Historical Society.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Chestnut Lodge (formerly known as Woodlawn Hotel) was a historic building in Rockville, Maryland, United States, well known as a psychiatric institution. Located at 500 W Montgomery Avenue, it was a contributing property to the West Montgomery Avenue Historic District.

New Mark Commons is a historic planned development in Rockville, Maryland. It consists of a residential area south of Maryland Avenue and east of Interstate 270, and is accessed via Potomac Valley Road and New Mark Esplanade. It was planned and built as a collaborative effort by the architectural firm Keyes, Lethbridge & Condon and builder Edmund J. Bennett, and was built between 1967 and 1973. Its design includes winding roads in a wooded landscape, with many cul-de-sacs, and pedestrian paths for connecting residential areas to recreational amenities.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

The Beall–Dawson House is a historic home located at Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is a 2+1⁄2-story Federal house, three bays wide by two deep, constructed of Flemish bond brick on the front facade and common bond elsewhere. Outbuildings on the property include an original brick dairy house and a mid-19th century one-room Gothic Revival frame doctor's office which was moved to the site for use as a museum. The house was constructed in 1815. It serves as the headquarters of the Montgomery County Historical Society which maintains the house as an early 19th-century period historic house museum. The house also include indoor slave quarters, and two rooms with changing exhibits of local history. The Beall–Dawson House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.The property also includes the Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine, a one-room doctor's office with medical and pharmaceutical tools, furniture, and books from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Montgomery County Courthouse Historic District, designated in 1986, includes several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Rockville, Maryland. The two-block district is focused on what remains of Rockville's old commercial, governmental, and residential center, most of which was demolished during urban renewal in the 1960s. The district includes the Romanesque Revival-style Red Brick Courthouse, designed by prominent Baltimore architect Frank E. Davis and built in 1891. Located at 29 Courthouse Square, it houses the refurbished Grand Courtroom of Montgomery County Circuit Court. The district also includes the 1931 Neoclassical-style Grey Courthouse and its 1960s addition; the 1939 Georgian-styled post office of limestone construction; and the 1930 Art Deco stone building built for the Farmers Banking and Trust Company. The courthouses are part of a cluster of municipal and county buildings at the corner of Maryland Avenue and Jefferson Street (Rte 28) in downtown Rockville. Other buildings in the cluster include Rockville City Hall, the District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County, and the Montgomery County Judicial Center, a Brutalist building constructed in the 1980s at 50 Maryland Avenue, which houses the rest of Montgomery County's Circuit Court, the Offices of the Sheriff, the Register of Wills, the Orphans' Court, and the State's Attorney for Montgomery County.

The RCPD patrols the city in cooperation with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). George Washington Carver High School and Junior College was the high school for black students in Rockville, Maryland prior to the integration of public schools, which occurred between 1955 and 1961. It replaced two earlier all-black high schools, the first founded in 1927. From that time until integration, there was only one high school for blacks in all of Montgomery County, Maryland.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is a public school district that serves Montgomery County, Maryland. With 210 schools in 2023, it is the largest school district in the state of Maryland. For the 2022–23 school year, the district had about 160,554 students taught by about 13,994 teachers, 86.4 percent of whom had a master's degree or equivalent. MCPS receives nearly half of the county's budget—47% in 2023.As of 2023, the superintendent of schools is Monifa McKnight. The board of education includes a student member, elected by all secondary students, who votes on all issues except punishment for individuals; in 2023–24, the student board member is Sami Saeed.In 2010, MCPS was awarded a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
