In addition to exhibiting the works of affiliated artists, Deborah Colton Gallery provides consultation services to individuals, corporations, and institutions, helping them to acquire specific works through a comprehensive program of collecting.Colton became interested in the international art scene while living in Tokyo and Bangkok, where she started a virtual gallery in 1998 featuring multimedia works by artists from China, Japan, Thailand, and other Asian countries. After moving to Houston in 2000, she opened the Deborah Colton Gallery and curated public space exhibitions in conjunction with local and global arts groups, including the exhibition “Thai Expressions in the City” featuring 16 Thai artists. The Deborah Colton Gallery has been a major player in the annual Houston arts event FotoFest, with the exhibit “Reviving Downtown” in 2004 and “Focus on Russia” featuring the works of Olga Tobreluts and Oleg Dou in 2012. In 2016 and 2017, exhibits included women artists of the African diaspora, Syrian artist Fadi Yazigi, and Houston-based artists from the 1970s and 80s.On the national stage, Steven Zevitas wrote about Deborah Colton Gallery in HuffPost's Arts & Culture section. The Gallery also collaborated with Yoko Ono on her IMAGINE PEACE project, sponsoring an "imagine peace" billboard in Houston in 2011, and later again at the gallery in 2016.

Rice Village is a shopping district in Houston, Texas, United States. Rice Village is a collection of shops, restaurants and pubs, situated about a half-mile west of the center of Rice University's 300-acre (1.2 km2) campus. The core "Rice Village" extends over several city blocks, bounded by University Boulevard, Kirby Drive, Tangley Street, Morningside Drive, Rice Boulevard, and Greenbriar Drive, though spillover has expanded the retail area to encompass businesses as far north as Bissonnet Street.

Rice Stadium is an American football stadium located on the Rice University campus in Houston, Texas. It has been the home of the Rice Owls football team since its completion in 1950, and hosted John F. Kennedy's "We choose to go to the Moon" speech in 1962 and Super Bowl VIII in early 1974. Architecturally, Rice Stadium is an example of modern architecture, with simple lines and an unadorned, functional design. The lower seating bowl is located below the surrounding ground level. Built solely for football, the stadium has excellent sightlines from almost every seat. To achieve this, the running track was eliminated so that spectators were closer to the action and each side of the upper decks was brought in at a concave angle to provide better sightlines. It is still recognized in many circles as the best stadium in Texas for watching a football game. Entrances and aisles were strategically placed so that the entire stadium could be emptied of spectators in nine minutes.In 2006, Rice University upgraded the facility by switching from AstroTurf to FieldTurf and adding a modern scoreboard above the north concourse. Seating in the upper deck is in poor condition, which led the university to move home games for which large crowds were expected to nearby NRG Stadium. High school football games, especially neutral-site playoff games, are frequently played at Rice Stadium. It can also be used as a concert venue.

KTRU-LP (stylized as ktru) is the college radio station of Rice University, a private university in south-central Houston, Texas, United States. KTRU-LP broadcasts a freeform-eclectic music format on 96.1 FM; its programming includes modern classical, reggae, indie rock, chopped and screwed, spoken word and local experimental noise bands. During evening hours, the station broadcasts shows geared to particular musical genres and themes. The station is owned by the university, which maintains an FM transmitter atop Rice Stadium, and is managed by its students. The current KTRU-LP license dates to 2015, but Rice's first foray into FM radio began in 1971, and radio at the university has a history dating to 1967.

Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School is a primary school located at 5100 Hazard Street in Houston, Texas, United States. A part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD), the school, which was built during the 1920s, is located in the Chevy Chase subdivision of the Boulevard Oaks neighborhood west of Rice University. The school, a National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) historic district contributing property of Boulevard Oaks, was named after Edgar Allan Poe. Poe Elementary, as of 2001, had about 700 students. It has bilingual programs for all grade levels and a fine arts magnet program. The 1980 Houston/Harris County Metropolitan Area Southwest-Westpark Corridor Transitway Alternatives: Environmental Impact Statement of the Urban Mass Transportation Administration described Poe as "a thriving, well-integrated magnet school".From 1974 to 2021 the Poe Cooperative Nursery School (Poe-Co), a privately-operated pre-school, was located on the Poe school grounds; it was established in 1974 in order to revive enrollment at Poe Elementary. It earned National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation in 1991, making it the first parent cooperative preschool to do so. Poe-Co moved from the Poe Elementary grounds after HISD removed private preschools from public school properties.

The Poe Elementary School bombing was a school bombing that occurred at Poe Elementary School in Boulevard Oaks, Houston, Texas, United States on September 15, 1959. Six people, including the perpetrator and his own son, were killed.

Phoenix Tower is a 434 ft (132m) tall skyscraper in Houston, Texas. It was completed in 1984 and has 34 floors. It is the 36th tallest building in the city. The Phoenix Tower is adjacent to Greenway Plaza and located in an area between Downtown Houston and Uptown. A Jack Nicklaus-designed nine-hole putting green is on top of the building's parking garage, conceived by the building's owners as a way for tenants to relax in the middle of the day. The tower has 629,024 square feet (58,438.2 m2) of office space. The tower was purchased by Parkway Properties in December, 2012 for US$124.5 million.Trico Marine Services, a former corporate tenant, relocated its corporate headquarters to The Woodlands. Trico maintains a minor presence in the tower. In 2009 Trico sublet 6,135 square feet (570.0 m2) to the law firm Edison, McDowell & Hetherington.The Phoenix Tower was the former headquarters for Champion Technologies. After its acquisition by Ecolab, it formed the combined company of Nalco Champion. The new company will office a large part of its employees as it consolidates its operations.In 1983, Hurricane Alicia's winds sent debris from the parking deck that was under construction onto the Buffalo Speedway.

Upper Kirby is a commercial district in Houston, Texas, United States. It is named after Kirby Drive, so indirectly takes its name from John Henry Kirby. Upper Kirby contains many businesses, including restaurants. Upper Kirby is east of the Greenway Plaza, southwest of Neartown, north of the city of West University Place, and south of River Oaks. Upper Kirby is considered to be in an area west of South Shepherd Drive, east of Buffalo Speedway, north of Bissonnet Street, and south of Westheimer Road.
