Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School is a primary school located at 5100 Hazard Street in Houston, Texas, United States. A part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD), the school, which was built during the 1920s, is located in the Chevy Chase subdivision of the Boulevard Oaks neighborhood west of Rice University. The school, a National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) historic district contributing property of Boulevard Oaks, was named after Edgar Allan Poe. Poe Elementary, as of 2001, had about 700 students. It has bilingual programs for all grade levels and a fine arts magnet program. The 1980 Houston/Harris County Metropolitan Area Southwest-Westpark Corridor Transitway Alternatives: Environmental Impact Statement of the Urban Mass Transportation Administration described Poe as "a thriving, well-integrated magnet school".From 1974 to 2021 the Poe Cooperative Nursery School (Poe-Co), a privately-operated pre-school, was located on the Poe school grounds; it was established in 1974 in order to revive enrollment at Poe Elementary. It earned National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation in 1991, making it the first parent cooperative preschool to do so. Poe-Co moved from the Poe Elementary grounds after HISD removed private preschools from public school properties.

The Simon and Mamie Minchen House is a single-family residence in the Ormond Place subdivision in Boulevard Oaks, Houston. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, #00001496, as of December 7, 2000. It is also a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and a Protected Houston Landmark. The two-story house uses an Italian Renaissance architectural style, and it also has a garage of the same height, which can hold three cars. The property also has a residence formerly used for servants.Joseph Finger designed the house, built in 1931, and it had been held in the Minchen family for generations. It was put up for sale for $2.2 million in 2018.

Boulevard Oaks is a neighborhood in Houston, Texas, United States, containing 21 subdivisions north of Rice University and south of U.S. Highway 59. Developed primarily during the 1920s and 1930s, Boulevard Oaks contains two National Register historic districts, Broadacres and Boulevard Oaks. The Boulevard Oaks Civic Association (BOCA) is the common civic association for all 21 subdivisions. Boulevard Oaks is in Texas's 7th congressional district.

Deborah Colton Gallery, located in the West University neighborhood in Houston, Texas, showcases established and emerging contemporary artists from around the world who work in traditional mediums such as painting, works on paper, sculpture, video, and photography, as well as emerging forms such as performance, conceptual future media, and public space installations. In addition to exhibiting the works of affiliated artists, Deborah Colton Gallery provides consultation services to individuals, corporations, and institutions, helping them to acquire specific works through a comprehensive program of collecting.Colton became interested in the international art scene while living in Tokyo and Bangkok, where she started a virtual gallery in 1998 featuring multimedia works by artists from China, Japan, Thailand, and other Asian countries. After moving to Houston in 2000, she opened the Deborah Colton Gallery and curated public space exhibitions in conjunction with local and global arts groups, including the exhibition “Thai Expressions in the City” featuring 16 Thai artists. The Deborah Colton Gallery has been a major player in the annual Houston arts event FotoFest, with the exhibit “Reviving Downtown” in 2004 and “Focus on Russia” featuring the works of Olga Tobreluts and Oleg Dou in 2012. Broadacres is a subdivision in Houston, Texas, United States, within the Boulevard Oaks community. It is located north of Bissonnet Street, south of U.S. Route 59, west of the Houston Museum District, and east of other subdivisions of Boulevard Oaks. The neighborhood is known for its large lots, historic preservationism, broad tree canopies, wide streets with medians, and affluence.

The Wiess School of Natural Sciences is an academic school at Rice University in Houston, Texas. It comprises the departments of BioSciences (a merging of Biochemistry and Cell Biology and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology); Chemistry; Earth, Environment and Planetary Sciences; Kinesiology; Mathematics; and Physics and Astronomy. The Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business is the graduate business school of Rice University, a private research university in Houston, Texas. Named in honor of Jesse Holman Jones, a Houston business and civic leader, the school received its initial funding in 1974 through a major gift from the Houston Endowment Inc., a philanthropic foundation established by Jones and his wife, Mary Gibbs Jones. The schools offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Accounting (MAcc), and Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) degrees, as well as an undergraduate business major. The George R. Brown School of Engineering is an academic school at Rice University in Houston, Texas. It contains the departments of Bioengineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Nanoengineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Statistics. Engineering has been part of Rice's curriculum since the university's founding in 1912, but the school was not established as its own unit until 1975.

The campus of Rice University is located on a heavily wooded 290-acre (120-hectare) plot of land on South Main Street in the Museum District of Houston, Texas. It is located east of Rice Village, a retail district, south of Boulevard Oaks and Southampton, west of the Texas Medical Center, and north of Southgate. Founded in 1912, the university has been developed in a relatively uniform Mediterranean Revival style, emphasizing light brick facades, quadrangles, archways, and decorative columns. There are notable exceptions to this style, including examples of brutalism and modern architecture. In recent decades, new buildings have also been constructed outside the original pentagonal campus, but nearly all academic and undergraduate residential facilities are still located there. In addition to academic and administrative buildings, the Rice campus also includes the entirety of the residential college system, parking, recreational fields and facilities, concert halls, theatres, a student center, and sports facilities for the various Rice Owls athletic teams.
