Ossów

Turów [ˈturuf] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Wołomin, within Wołomin County, Masovian Voivodeship, in east-central Poland. It lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) south-west of Wołomin and 18 km (11 mi) north-east of Warsaw.

The Battle of Ossów took place in the fields near Wołomin on 14 August 1920. It was a part of a much larger battle on the outskirts of Warsaw during the Polish-Bolshevist War (February 1919 - March 1921). During the day Soviet units managed to capture the strategically important village of Ossów, but were repelled in the evening by a Polish counter-attack. The battle was one of the first skirmishes won by the Poles since the beginning of the Soviet offensive in late spring.

Kobyłka [kɔˈbɨu̯ka] is a town of almost 22,000 inhabitants in Poland within the Warsaw metropolitan area, located right outside of the Warsaw, near Wołomin in the Wołomin County in the Masovian Voivodeship.

Warszawa Wesoła railway station is a railway station in the Wesoła district of Warsaw, Poland. As of 2011, it is served by Koleje Mazowieckie, who run the KM2 services from Warszawa Zachodnia to Łuków and by Szybka Kolej Miejska, who run the S2 services from Warszawa Zachodnia to Sulejówek Miłosna.

Military Institute of Armament Technology (Polish: Wojskowy Instytut Techniczny Uzbrojenia; WITU) is a Polish scientific institution responsible for the research and development of new technologies for use by the military. It is based in Zielonka at the outskirts of Warsaw. Subordinate to the Ministry of National Defence, the institute is considered one of "central institutions", that is one of state-owned institutions essential to the functioning of the state.

Gmina Wołomin is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Wołomin County, Masovian Voivodeship, in east-central Poland. Its seat is the town of Wołomin, which lies approximately 22 kilometres (14 mi) north-east of Warsaw. The gmina covers an area of 59.52 square kilometres (23.0 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 49,509 (out of which the population of Wołomin amounts to 36,711, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 12,798).

Wołomin [vɔˈwɔmin] is the main town of Wołomin County situated in the Masovian Voivodship. Wołomin is situated approximately 20 km (12 mi) east of Warsaw, the capital of Poland, near the railway to Białystok. It has approximately 36,000 inhabitants and covers an area of 14 km2 (5 sq mi). In the 1990s and 2000s, the town was synonymous with the "Wołomin gang", one of two major organised crime groups in the country.

Wołomin County (Polish: powiat wołomiński) is a territorial and administrative division in Masovian Voivodeship, east-central Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. The administrative seat of the county and also its largest town is Wołomin, which lies 22 kilometres (14 mi) north-east of Warsaw. The county contains six other towns: Ząbki, 11 km (7 mi) south-west of Wołomin, Marki, 10 km (6 mi) west of Wołomin, Kobyłka, 3 km (2 mi) south-west of Wołomin, Zielonka, 8 km (5 mi) south-west of Wołomin, Radzymin, 9 km (6 mi) north-west of Wołomin, and Tłuszcz, 18 km (11 mi) north-east of Wołomin. The county covers an area of 955.37 square kilometres (368.9 sq mi). As of 2019 its total population is 247,288, out of which the population of Wołomin is 37,082, that of Ząbki is 37,219, that of Marki is 34,679, that of Kobyłka is 24,096, that of Zielonka is 17,588, that of Radzymin is 13,005, that of Tłuszcz is 8,156, and the rural population is 75,463.

The National Defence University of Warsaw (Polish: Akademia Obrony Narodowej – AON) was the civil-military highest defence academic institution in Poland, located in Warszawa–Rembertów. In 2016 it was succeeded by the War Studies University.The National Defence University in Warsaw was established on 1 October 1990 after reform of the General Staff Academy (est. 1947) and continued traditions of the Szkoła Rycerska ("The School of Knights") founded on 15 March 1765 and other subsequent military schools. The National Defence University was subordinate directly to the Polish Ministry of National Education. AON was the alma mater of Polish commanding and staff officers and civilian experts in national and international security matters. It also conducted extensive scientific research on state defence issues, military doctrine, theory of warfare, military art, including military strategy, operational art and tactics, also in the field of national and international security. The National Defence University in Warsaw cooperated with the Polish Ministry of National Defence, General Staff, North Atlantic Treaty Organization and other Polish and foreign military, scientific and academic institutions. The school's master's program was a five-years study program, but also AON provided two-years under- and over graduate study programs and four-years PhD (Doctor of Science) programs and higher doctorate (habilitation) opportunity as well.

Leśniakowizna [lɛɕɲakɔˈvizna] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Wołomin, within Wołomin County, Masovian Voivodeship, in east-central Poland.

Zielonka [ʑɛˈlɔnka] is a town in Wołomin County, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland, with 17,398 inhabitants (2013). It is located about 13 km to the north-east of the centre of Warsaw. Zielonka borders Warsaw and several other towns of the Warsaw metropolitan area: Ząbki and Marki in the west, Kobyłka in the north, and Sulejówek in the south. It was granted town rights in 1960. In August 1920, the Battle of Ossów was fought nearby, as part of the Battle of Warsaw in which the Poles were victorious and repulsed the Soviet invasion. Within the town limits, near the village of Ossów, there is a cemetery of the fallen Polish soldiers with a chapel of Our Lady of Victory.
