Chester Gap

Chester Gap is a census-designated place (CDP) in Rappahannock and Warren counties, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 Census was 839. The CDP is named for Chester Gap, the wind gap within which it is located.

Mountain Home is a historic home located near Front Royal, Warren County, Virginia. It was built in 1847, and is a two-story, three-bay, brick Greek Revival style dwelling. It has a two-story frame ell added in 1869. Also on the property are the contributing mid-19th-century slave quarters, a meat house, a chicken coop, a shed, and two early-20th-century garages.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

An extension of the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., the SCBI has played a leading role in the fields of veterinary medicine, reproductive physiology and conservation biology since its founding in 1974.Previously named the Conservation and Research Center, the CRC became known as the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in 2010 as a symbol of its growing independence from the captive animals associated with the traditional images of zoos.

The Battle of Manassas Gap, also known as the Battle of Wapping Heights, took place on July 23, 1863, in Warren County, Virginia, at the conclusion of General Robert E. Lee's retreat back to Virginia in the final days of the Gettysburg Campaign of the American Civil War. Union forces attempted to force passage across the Blue Ridge Mountains and attack the Confederate rear as it formed a defensive position in the upper Shenandoah Valley. Despite successfully forcing the passage at Manassas Gap, the Union force was unable to do so before Lee retreated further up the valley to safety, resulting in an inconclusive battle.

Warren County High School (WCHS) is a high school located in Front Royal, Virginia. The mascot is a Wildcat and its colors are Maroon and White. Warren County competes in VHSL activities in the Evergreen District, Region II, Group AA. Its main rivals are Skyline High School and John Handley High School. For 67 years it was located on Luray Avenue. A new WCHS (Fall 2007) is located on Westminster Drive, serving the eastern 40% of the county. Skyline High School opened in the Fall of 2007, serving the western 60% of the county.
