Quincy Mine

Franklin Mine is a small unincorporated community in Houghton County, Michigan, United States. The area is on Quincy Hill, northeast of Hancock, and lying partially within Quincy Township and partially within Franklin Township. Franklin Mine is located at 47°08′24″N 88°34′24″W and is named after the eponymous mine.

The Quincy Mine No. 2 Shaft Hoist House is an industrial building located north of Hancock, Michigan along US Highway 41 within the Quincy Mining Company Historic District. The Hoist House contains the largest steam hoisting engine in the world, which sits on the largest reinforced concrete engine foundation ever poured. The shaft hoist house was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1969 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

WOLV (97.7 MHz "The Wolf") is an FM radio station licensed to Houghton, Michigan, broadcasting a classic hits format. The studios are at 313 E. Montezuma in Houghton, a location it shares with its sister stations, WCCY and WHKB. The station first went on the air in January 1980 as WHUH. In 1990, the station's call letters were changed to WOLF-FM. In 1994, the call letters were changed to WOLV. In 2019 was named Michigan Association of Broadcaster's Station of the Year. In September 2023, The Marks Group sold the Michigan broadcasting properties—WBKB-TV, WBKP, WBUP, and the Houghton and Iron River radio stations—for $13.375 million to Morgan Murphy Media. The deal was closed on December 4.

WHKB (102.3 FM, "K-Bear 102") is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. The studios are at 313 E. Montezuma, Houghton. It shares this location with its sister stations, WOLV and WCCY. Licensed to Houghton, Michigan, it first began broadcasting under the WAAH call sign. In September 2023, The Marks Group sold the Michigan broadcasting properties—WBKB-TV, WBKP, WBUP, and the Houghton and Iron River radio stations—for $13.375 million to Morgan Murphy Media. The deal was closed on December 4.

WHBS (96.3 FM) is an adult contemporary radio station licensed to Houghton, Michigan, with a power output of 37,000 watts, covering the Keweenaw Peninsula. The station is owned by Morgan Murphy Media and broadcasts from studios at 313 E. Montezuma in Houghton. In 2021, then owner Stephen Marks was the highest bidder during a Federal Communications Commission frequency auction for a new FM license serving Houghton, Michigan. Under the call letters WHSB, the new station went on the air in late 2024 at 96.3 MHz as "Lite 96-3, Houghton’s Breeze".

WCCY (1400 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a contemporary hit radio format. Licensed to Houghton, Michigan, it first began broadcasting in 1929. It is owned by Morgan Murphy Media. The studios are at 313 E. Montezuma, Houghton. It shares this location with its sister stations, WOLV and WHKB.

East Hancock is a primarily residential neighbourhood in Hancock, Michigan, though it also includes the easternmost block of Quincy Street, the main street of Hancock's downtown.

Quincy Township is a civil township of Houghton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township population was 251.

The Detroit and Lake Superior Smelter was a copper smelter located near Hancock, Michigan on the Keweenaw Waterway. It was opened in 1860 by the Portage Lake Copper Company. The company later merged with the Waterbury and Detroit Copper Company to form the Detroit and Lake Superior Company. The Calumet and Hecla Mining Company used the smelter until it built its own near Hubbell, Michigan and Black Rock, New York in 1887 and 1891 respectively.Some of the buildings still exist and are currently used by the Houghton County Road Commission.

Temple Jacob is a small historic synagogue in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It owes its origins to the copper boom in the Keweenaw Peninsula in the late 19th and early 20th century. The first Jewish synagogue in the Copper Country, it is also the oldest, continuously active Jewish House of Worship in the Upper Peninsula and the only active synagogue in Michigan listed on the National Historic Register as part of the East Hancock Neighborhood Historic District. The synagogue is located near the north end of the lift bridge which connects the two towns of Houghton and Hancock. It was built on land purchased from the Quincy Mining Company and was dedicated in September 1912. The cornerstone inscribes the building in memory of Jacob, son of Israel Gartner, who was a generous contributor and fundraiser. He died shortly before the building was completed.

Mont Ripley is a ski hill located in Franklin Township, Houghton County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The site is just outside the cities of Hancock and Houghton. It is owned by Michigan Technological University. It was founded in the early 1900s by Fred Pabst Jr. (and managed by Fred Lonsdorf). With the addition of snow making in 2000, the season has been extended from late November to late March or early April. Mont Ripley is known for its challenging terrain and views of Houghton, Portage Lake and the Huron Mountains. It is also commonly used by racers.

The Kerredge Theatre was a theatre located in the 1st block of East Quincy Street in Hancock, Michigan, next to the Scott Hotel. It was built by William and Ray Kerredge and completed by Fall 1902. The theatre hosted many vaudeville groups and could accommodate 1250 patrons. The theatre was fronted by a circular balcony. The Kerredge Theatre was built in response to the construction two years earlier of The Calumet Theatre in Calumet, Michigan.At some point, the Kerredge was converted into a movie theater.The building caught fire around 2am and burned to the ground in the early morning of May 29, 1959. The efforts of fire crews prevented direct fire damage to the neighboring Scott Hotel, but it suffered an estimated $100,000 (1959 US dollars) of smoke and water damage. No injuries occurred.
