The Canton of Dieppe-Ouest is a former canton situated in the Seine-Maritime département and in the Haute-Normandie region of northern France. It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. It consisted of part of the commune of Dieppe and had a total of 19,048 inhabitants (2012).

Operation Jubilee or the Dieppe Raid (19 August 1942) was an Allied amphibious attack on the German-occupied port of Dieppe in northern France, during the Second World War. Over 6,050 infantry, predominantly Canadian, supported by a Canadian tank regiment, were landed by a Royal Navy flotilla under cover of the Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force. The port was to be captured and held for a short period, to test the feasibility of a landing and to gather intelligence. German coastal defences, port structures and important buildings were to be demolished. The raid was intended to boost Allied morale, to demonstrate the commitment of the United Kingdom to re-open the Western Front, and to support the Soviet Union, which was fighting on the Eastern Front. The Luftwaffe made a maximum effort against the landing as the RAF had expected, and the RAF lost 106 aircraft (at least 32 to anti-aircraft fire or accidents) against 48 German losses. The Royal Navy lost 33 landing craft and a destroyer. Aerial and naval support was insufficient to enable the ground forces to achieve their objectives. The tanks were trapped on the beach and the infantry was largely prevented from entering the town by obstacles and German fire. After less than six hours, mounting casualties forced a retreat. Within ten hours, 3,623 of the 6,086 men who landed had been killed, wounded, or taken prisoner. 5,000 were Canadians, who suffered a 68% casualty rate, with 3,367 killed, wounded or taken prisoner. The operation was a fiasco in which only one landing force achieved its objective, and a small amount of military intelligence was gathered. Both sides learnt important lessons regarding coastal assaults. The Allies learnt lessons that influenced the success of the Normandy landings. Artificial harbours were declared crucial, tanks were adapted specifically for beaches, a new integrated tactical air force strengthened ground support, and capturing a major port at the outset was no longer seen as a priority. Churchill and Mountbatten both stated that these lessons had outweighed the cost. The Germans also believed that Dieppe was a learning experience and made a considerable effort to improve the way they defended the occupied coastlines of Europe.

The arrondissement of Dieppe is an arrondissement of France in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy région. It has 342 communes. Its population is 232,559 (2021), and its area is 3,120.1 km2 (1,204.7 sq mi).

Dieppe Maritime station (French: Gare Maritime de Dieppe) was a railway station in the town of Dieppe, Seine-Maritime, France and was built by CF de l'Ouest in 1874. The station was the station for passengers from Paris to Newhaven, by steamers and then ferries. Steam ships began crossing the English Channel in 1816 and linked Dieppe to Brighton. From 1824, the General Steam Navigation Company (GSNC) began operations with two crossings per week. Its ships were paddle steamers 25m in length that reached Brighton in nine hours. In 1841, the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway (LB&SCR) was opened to Brighton, and subsequently to Lewes and Newhaven. Newhaven rebuilt its harbour to welcome larger ships. The railway arrived in Dieppe from Rouen on 1 August 1848 and the then CF de Paris-Rouen which later became the CF de l'Ouest was becoming interested in the GSNC and a joint venture with the LB&SCR and Mr Marples (owner of the GSNC). Profits were then split three ways; 37% for the C.F. de l'Ouest, 44% for Marples and 19% for the LB&SCR. By 1859, profits had begun to diminish and the two railway companies bought the maritime operations. The original "Steamer Depot" was built on the quai Henri IV connected to the Dieppe station by a short branch line that ran along quai Duquesne, past the trade and industry offices, fire station, the fishing syndicate and the public fish market. The Paris train ran alongside the quay in front of a long narrow building that included goods and passenger terminals and a restaurant. This building later became the Gare Maritime's goods depot when, following deepening of the harbour, a new passenger terminal was built further up the quay. This had one track either side of a red brick building and could handle two passenger trains simultaneously. As well as the passenger ferries, a regular service of smaller freight ferries also ran between Dieppe and Newhaven and the station became increasingly important for urgent goods as well as for passengers. The passenger terminal was damaged beyond repair during World War II. It was demolished soon afterwards and, after several years when passengers used temporary buildings, a new two-storey concrete terminal building in a modernist style was opened on 17 June 1953. It had three railway tracks, one of them running along the side of the quay, and could handle two locomotive-hauled boat trains and the local railcar to Rouen. In the 1960s, diesel traction began to replace steam locos on the boat trains operating to and from the harbour station. Combined rail and ferry services ended in 1994 after Stena Line, at that time operating as Stena Sealink on the Newhaven-Dieppe and Dover-Calais crossings, had transferred to a new terminal on the other side of the harbour. These changes coincided with the opening of the Channel Tunnel and the concomitant withdrawal of all SNCF Channel boat trains. The whole station was demolished in early 1995, and virtually no physical traces now remain.

The Church of Saint-Jacques in Dieppe (French: Église Saint-Jacques de Dieppe) is a church located in Dieppe, France. The building was classified as a monument historique in 1840. The church is dedicated to Saint James the Great.

Dieppe station (French: Gare de Dieppe) is the train station for the town of Dieppe, Seine-Maritime and was built by Chemins de fer de Paris à Cherbourg and opened on 28 July 1848. It used to have a direct connection with Paris-St. Lazare via Serqueux and Gisors, but this line was closed in 2006. Along with Dieppe-Port, it was a stop on the trains from Paris to London via Newhaven. The station is now the terminus of a line from Paris via Rouen.

The Communauté d'agglomération de la région Dieppoise, also known as Dieppe Maritime is the communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Dieppe. It is located in the Seine-Maritime department, in the Normandy region, northern France. It was created on 31 December 2002. Its area is 129.0 km2. Its population was 46,223 in 2018, of which 28,561 in Dieppe proper.

The Hôtel de Ville (French pronunciation: [otɛl də vil], City Hall) is a municipal building in Dieppe, Seine-Maritime, in northern France, standing on Parc Jehan Ango.

Dieppe (French pronunciation: [djɛp]; Norman: Dgieppe; prob. from Old English dēōp or Old Norse djúpr 'deep') is a coastal commune in the Seine-Maritime department, Normandy, northern France. Dieppe is a seaport on the English Channel at the mouth of the river Arques. A regular ferry service runs to Newhaven in England. Famous for its scallops, Dieppe also has a popular pebbled beach, a 15th-century castle and the churches of Saint-Jacques and Saint-Remi. The mouth of the river Scie lies at Hautot-sur-Mer, directly to the west of Dieppe.

The siege of Dieppe (2 November 1442 – 14 August 1443) took place during the Hundred Years War where English forces led by John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury besieged and failed to capture the French-held port of Dieppe in Normandy.
