Ardmore, Easter Ross

Balblair distillery is a Scotch malt whisky distillery located in Edderton, Ross-shire, Scotland. Founded in 1790, the distillery was rebuilt in 1895 by the designer Charles C Doig to be closer to the Edderton Railway Station on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway line. However, so good was the original water source that the rebuilt distillery chose to ignore a nearby burn in favour of the original Ault Dearg burn. To this day, the Balblair Distillery continues to use this original water source.

Edderton railway station served the village of Edderton, Highland, Scotland from 1864 to 1960 on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway.

Clach Chairidh, alternatively named Clach Biorach (from Scots Gaelic, meaning 'the Pointed Stone'), is a Class I Pictish stone located in a field near the village of Edderton in Easter Ross. The standing stone was probably erected at some time in the Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age (4000 BC to 1500 BC), and Pictish symbols were later engraved at some time in the Late Iron Age to Early Medieval period (500 AD to 700 AD) on its north face. The symbols are a salmon above a double-disc with a Z-rod. When first recorded in 1780, a circle which is no longer visible was shown below on the left, which could have been part of a mirror. It is sandstone, 3.13m high, and at the base it has a width of 1.07m and depth of 0.46m.

Edderton Cross Slab is a Class III Pictish stone standing in the old graveyard of the village of Edderton, Easter Ross. The stone is of red sandstone. On the western side there is an undecorated but elegant celtic cross, the circles within its rings emphasised by being left in relief. On the eastern side there is another cross on the upper half, standing on a semi-circular base or arch, within which is a horseman in relief, with two further riders incised below. The slab was formerly sunk considerably deeper in the earth, concealing the lower two horsemen, but has recently been raised to its presumed original height (notice the lack of lichen on the lower half in the accompanying photograph). This monument should not be confused with the Edderton Symbol Stone, or Clach Biorach ("Pointed Stone"), a red sandstone pillar of Bronze Age origin with Pictish symbols incised on it, which stands in a field near the village of Edderton a little to the west. Further fragments of early medieval cross-slabs, in poor condition, from Edderton churchyard, are preserved in Tain Museum.

Balleigh is a small village, 0.5 miles southeast of Edderton and 7 miles west of Tain, in eastern Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland.

Edderton (Scottish Gaelic: Eadardan) is a village near Tain, lying on the shores of the Dornoch Firth, Easter Ross and is in the Highland council area of Scotland. It has approximately 388 inhabitants. It is the location of the Balblair Distillery, and of the Edderton Cross Slab, a Class III Pictish stone, which lies in the old churchyard of the village. A quarter of a mile outside the town lies another stone, the Clach Biorach, a Class I Pictish stone. The former Ardmore House was a home of the chiefs of clan Ross.Balblair distillery off Station Road, Edderton, dates back to about 1800: in 1846, it was recorded that it consumed 120 bushels of malt weekly, producing 240 gallons of whisky, of very high repute. The distillery and village were served by the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway from 1864 until Edderton railway station closed in 1960.

Pulrossie is a farm in Sutherland, in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is situated on the northern shore of the Kyle of Sutherland, 8 km west of Dornoch. Skibo Castle is 1.5 km to the north-east, while Meikle Ferry is 1.5 km south-east.

The Meikle Ferry took passengers across the tidal Dornoch Firth in North Scotland. On 16 August 1809, in clear weather conditions, the overloaded ferry capsized and ninety-nine people died. The disaster prompted the building of a bridge upriver at Bonar Bridge.

Skibo Castle (Scottish Gaelic: Caisteal Sgìobail) is located to the west of Dornoch in the Highland county of Sutherland, Scotland overlooking the Dornoch Firth. Although largely of the 19th century and early 20th century, when it was the home of industrialist Andrew Carnegie, its origins go back much earlier. Andrew Chirnside was a previous owner. It is now operated as The Carnegie Club, a members-only residential club, offering members and their guests accommodation in both the castle and estate lodges, a private links golf course and a range of activities including clay pigeon shooting, tennis and horse riding.

The A949 is a major road in Sutherland, in the Highland area of Scotland. It has staggered junctions with the A9. From the A949 the A9 runs (1) generally north to Thurso and (2) generally south to Tain, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and Falkirk. From the A9, just north of Tain and the Dornoch Firth, the A949 runs (1) west to the A836 at Bonar Bridge and (2) east to Dornoch. The junctions are about 1 mile (2 km) apart. The section of the A949 between Bonar Bridge and the first junction on the A9 on the north side of the Dornoch Firth was part of the A9 until the opening of the Dornoch Firth Bridge in 1991.Bonar Bridge is about 10 miles (16 km) west of the A9, at the neck of the Kyle of Sutherland. Dornoch is about 2 miles (3 km) east, at the mouth of the Dornoch Firth. Within Dornoch the A949 has a junction with the B9168. The A949 road goes west of the A9 road at a roundabout, merging into Zone 8 of the Great Britain road numbering scheme. It is one of the few Zone 9 roads to go west of the A9.

The River Evelix (Scottish Gaelic: Èibhleag) is a river in Sutherland, Scotland. It draws water from some 30 square miles (78 km2) of rugged moorland and farmland. To its south is the Kyle of Sutherland and to its west the River Shin. It passes through farmland, the village of Evelix, and the estuary of Loch Evelix. It enters the sea at Meikle Ferry on the Dornoch Firth, just west of the north end of the Dornoch Bridge.

The Dornoch Firth Bridge is a road bridge over the Dornoch Firth, carrying traffic between Tain and Dornoch.
