Little Spectacle Island

Spectacle Island is a 3.5-hectare (8.6-acre) island in south-eastern Australia. It is part of the Sloping Island Group, lying close to the south-eastern coast of Tasmania around the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas. Recorded breeding seabird and wader species are little penguin, short-tailed shearwater and pied oystercatcher.

Carlton is a part rural, part residential locality in the local government area of Sorell in the Hobart region of Tasmania. It is located about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south-east of the town of Sorell. The 2016 census determined a population of 1119 for the state suburb of Carlton.

Lewisham is a locality and suburb of [Sorell] in the local government area of Sorell, in the Sorell and surrounds region of Tasmania. It is located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) north-east of the town of Hobart. The 2016 census determined a population of 691 for the state suburb of Lewisham.

Frederick Henry Bay is a body of water in the southeast of Tasmania, Australia. It is located to the east of the South Arm Peninsula, and west of the Tasman Peninsula. Towns on the coast of the bay include Lauderdale, Seven Mile Beach, Dodges Ferry and Primrose Sands. The bay is accessible via Storm Bay from the south, and provides further access to Norfolk Bay to its east. The bay contains Seven Mile Beach on its northern shores, the closest surfing beach to Hobart.

Woody Island is an island in south-eastern Australia. It is part of the Sloping Island Group, lying close to the south-eastern coast of Tasmania around the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas.One of the 105 islands of the Recherche Archipelago, it was named by French explorer Bruni d’Entrecasteaux in 1792.

The South Arm Important Bird Area is a disjunct tract of mainly intertidal land on the eastern outskirts of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Primrose Sands is a mixed urban and rural locality in the local government area of Sorell in the South-east region of Tasmania. The locality is about 20 kilometres (12 mi) south-east of the town of Sorell. The 2021 Australian Census has a population of 1209 for the state suburb of Primrose Sands.It is a sea-side locality that lies at the northern channel between Frederick Henry Bay and Norfolk Bay. Though primarily a holiday home community, it has a large permanent population. In 2010 the median house price in Hobart was under $3350,000. Over 50% of houses in Primrose Sands are unoccupied most of the year.The town is home to an Returned and Services League of Australia club, community centre and a combined store and post office.

On Sunday 10 March 1946 a Douglas DC-3 aircraft departed from Hobart, Tasmania for a flight to Melbourne. The aircraft crashed into the sea with both engines operating less than 2 minutes after takeoff. All twenty-five people on board the aircraft died. It was Australia's worst civil aviation accident at the time.An investigation panel was promptly established to investigate the accident. The panel was unable to conclusively establish the cause but it decided the most likely cause was that the automatic pilot was inadvertently engaged shortly after takeoff while the gyroscope was caged. The Department of Civil Aviation took action to ensure that operation of the automatic pilot on-off control on Douglas DC-3 aircraft was made distinctive from operation of any other control in the cockpit, and that instructions were issued impressing on pilots that gyroscopes should be un-caged prior to takeoff. An inquiry chaired by a Supreme Court judge closely examined three different theories but found there was insufficient evidence to determine any one of them as the cause. This inquiry discovered that the captain of the aircraft was diabetic and had kept it secret from both his employer and the Department of Civil Aviation. The judge considered the captain's diabetes and self-administration of insulin probably contributed significantly to the accident but he stopped short of making this his official conclusion. In his report, the judge recommended modification of the lever actuating the automatic pilot. The inquiry uncovered four irregularities in the regulation of civil aviation in Australia and the judge made four recommendations to deal with these irregularities.

Carlton River is a locality and small rural community in the local government area of Sorell, in the Sorell and surrounds region of Tasmania. It is located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) east of the town of Hobart. The shore of Flinders Channel forms part of the southern boundary. The 2016 census determined a population of 265 for the state suburb of Carlton River.

Barren Island is a small island, with an area of 0.53 ha, in south-eastern Australia. It is part of the Sloping Island Group, lying close to the south-eastern coast of Tasmania around the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas.

The Sorell Causeway is a causeway that carries the Tasman Highway across Pitt Water-Orielton Lagoon, from the western side of Midway Point to Sorell in the south-east of Tasmania, Australia. The causeway and adjacent McGees Bridge provide vital links between Hobart and two of Tasmania's principal tourist attractions - Port Arthur Historic Site on the Tasman Peninsula and the picturesque East Coast via the Tasman Highway.
