Torresdale, also formerly known as Torrisdale, is a neighborhood in the Far Northeast section of Philadelphia. Torresdale is located along the Delaware River between Holmesburg and Bensalem Township in neighboring Bucks County. The adjacent confluence of the Poquessing Creek with the Delaware River had been favored by William Penn's surveyor, Thomas Holme, as the site for the city that Penn planned to found. Although a more southerly site was finally selected, Holme and others acquired property there, where he is buried.

Camp Happy, was a summer camp designed to provide healthy nutrition and fresh air for the underprivileged children of Philadelphia. It was located on a large tract of land near the Delaware River, in Torresdale, Northeast Philadelphia.

Winchester Park is a neighborhood in Far Northeast Philadelphia. It is located in the vicinity of Pennypack Park, north and west of Holmesburg.It is a neighborhood of single family homes. The first part of the development, on Winchester Avenue between Albion Street and 75' east of Holmehurst Ave was built in 1940. The remainder of the area was built between 1947- 1955. The Frankford Avenue Bridge, also known as the Pennypack Creek Bridge, the Pennypack Bridge, the Holmesburg Bridge, and the King's Highway Bridge, erected in 1697 in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, is the oldest surviving roadway bridge in the United States. The three-span, 73-foot-long (22 m) twin stone arch bridge carries Frankford Avenue (U.S. Route 13), just north of Solly Avenue, over Pennypack Creek in Pennypack Park.The bridge was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1970. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Holmesburg Prison, given the nickname "The Terrordome," was a prison operated by the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Department of Prisons (PDP) from 1896 to 1995. The facility is located at 8215 Torresdale Ave in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia. It was decommissioned in 1995 when it closed. As of today, the structure still stands and is occasionally used for prisoner overflow and work programs.It was the site of controversial decades-long dermatological, pharmaceutical, and biochemical weapons research projects involving testing on inmates. The experiments and research conducted on prisoners soon influenced ethical standards that are used today in modern research. The creation of the Nuremberg Code with the rule of informed consent was drafted based on this case as well as several others, like the Tuskegee experiments in Alabama.The prison is also notable for several major riots in the early 1970s as well as a report released in 1968, the results of an extensive two-year investigation by the Offices of the Philadelphia Police Commissioner and the District Attorney of Philadelphia documenting hundreds of cases of the rape of inmates. The 1998 book Acres of Skin: Human Experiments at Holmesburg Prison, by Allen M. Hornblum, documents clinical non-therapeutic medical experiments on prison inmates at Holmesburg. Currently, the Philadelphia Department of Prisons's Training Academy still operates near the jail.

Father Judge High School is a Roman Catholic high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales run the school, which the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia established in 1954.

Joseph H. Brown Elementary School is an elementary school on Frankford Avenue at Stanwood Street in Holmesburg, in the Northeast Philadelphia area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, currently serving students from kindergarten to sixth grade. It is part of the School District of Philadelphia. The current school building was constructed in 1937, replacing an earlier building on the same site. The school building was designed by Irwin T. Catharine, then the Philadelphia School District's main architect, and is an exemplar of the Art Deco and Moderne schools of architecture.

Greenbelt Knoll is a residential development in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Planned and built from 1952 to 1957, it is notable as the first planned racially integrated development in Philadelphia and among the first in the United States. The developer, Morris Milgram, a leader of the open housing movement, required that 55 percent of the homes be sold to whites, and 45 percent to non-whites. The first house sold in 1956 for $20,000. The isolated little neighborhood included its own swimming pool, which was filled in circa 1985, leaving no trace above ground.

The Penypack Theatre is an historic Art Deco style movie house located on the 8000 block of Frankford Avenue of Holmesburg in the northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Built in 1929 and designed by architect William Harold Lee, the theater was designed with a 1,364 seating capacity. Among its features is a sizable stage house at its back which suggests it was likely designed both for motion picture presentations as well as live performances. Originally it was called the "Holme Theatre," but in 1946 it was renamed in honor of nearby Pennypack Park.Constructed at the start of the Great Depression, it appears the theater was never used to its full potential. Operating through the Depression years as a movie theater, its significance was seemingly forgotten, and thus it was never upgraded to be competitive with newer theaters built after the Depression ended. Some time during the late 1950s it was shut down as a theater and then tested as an auction house for a time. When this alternative use failed, it became a carpet outlet for many years, and finally a furniture and appliance store, before being boarded up completely soon at the start of the 21st century. Currently the building houses a Pizza Hut/Wing Street and a Dollar Tree store.

The Philadelphia House of Correction is one of five local prisons operated by the Philadelphia Prison System. It is located at 8001 State Road in the Holmesburg neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia. The facility was built in 1874 and rebuilt in 1927. Originally it was designed to the same pattern as the now-disused Eastern State Penitentiary, but the reconstruction and modifications over the decades has produced many differences. Both facilities were outfitted with cells along a number of hallways radiating from a central hub. The cells were designed for single-occupancy in accordance with the Pennsylvania System.Although the facility can hold 1,250 prisoners in 666 cells, this prison was emptied of inmates in 2019 and Mayor Jim Kenney plans to officially close the facility in 2020.Given its age, the jail is the subject of political discussion concerning its future or replacement. The facility lacks modern fire-control systems and air conditioning.

The Insectarium is a museum about insects located in the Northeast part of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The museum opened in 1992 and features displays of many types of live insects, mounted specimens, exhibits and hands-on activities. Examples of the live insects (and other arthropods) include honeybees, tarantulas, cockroaches, scorpions, spiders, praying mantis, millipedes, beetles, water bugs, ants, and crickets. In 2017 the museum expanded and opened a 7,000-square-foot greenhouse for a year-round butterfly pavilion. Following a reported heist of rare live insects in 2018, the insectarium was the subject of a four part true crime documentary titled Bug Out that was released in 2022.
