The Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center (Smart Lighting ERC) focuses on developing solid-state lighting systems with advanced functionality, with an emphasis on industry outreach to facilitate commercialization. The center is an NSF Gen-3 ERC formed in 2008 and is a partnership between lead university Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), two core partner universities—Boston University (BU) and the University of New Mexico (UNM)—and three other outreach universities—Howard University, Morgan State University (MSU), and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (RHIT). Funding comes from the National Science Foundation (NSF), New York Empire State Development's Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR), and industrial partners.In the words of Director Robert F. Karlicek Jr, the Smart Lighting ERC seeks to contribute to the creation of "smart lighting systems that think." A primary goal of Gen-3 ERCs is the global commercialization of academic research.

The Tri-State League is a defunct NCAA Division I ice hockey-only conference. The league was the first attempt at creating a conference for hockey programs and, while it did not succeed in its goals, succeeding conferences were able to learn from the mistakes made and flaws in its design to form effective and long-lasting divisions.

The Clarkson–Rensselaer men's ice hockey rivalry is a college ice hockey rivalry between the Clarkson Golden Knights men's ice hockey and RPI Engineers men's ice hockey programs. The first meeting between the two occurred on January 24, 1925.

Theta Xi Fraternity Chapter House, also known as the Alpha of Theta Xi Fraternity Chapter House, or less formally as The Zoo, is a historic fraternity house associated with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and located at Troy, Rensselaer County, New York. It was built in 1931 as a chapter house for Theta Xi fraternity, and is a 2 1/2-story, irregular "T" plan, Tudor Revival style hollow tile building with a brick veneer. It sits on a poured concrete foundation and has a tall slate gable roof. The building features an entry pavilion, half-timbering, and a Tudor arch limestone entryway.: 3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The George M. Low Center for Industrial Innovation, otherwise known as the Low Center or CII, is a major industry-funded research center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

The Alumni Sports and Recreation Center (more commonly referred to as The Armory) is a building owned by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. It is host to sports facilities and to many clubs in the institute's community. It was purchased by the institute in 1971 from the State of New York, where it had previously served as the city armory for Troy.

The Rensselaer Society of Engineers (RSE) is a social fraternity founded in 1866 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Originally named The Pi Eta Scientific Society, the organization was incorporated in 1873 in the state of New York. Arriving on campus at about the same time as some of the first fraternities, it has remained one of the oldest "local" organizations in the U.S. RSE is the only independent fraternity at Rensselaer. They have chosen to remain independent to maintain the freedom to set their own policies and make their own managerial decisions. Contrary to what their name may imply, members major not only in engineering, but also in such disciplines as science, management, architecture, and the arts. Society members are active in not only campus and local activities, but are also in many national organizations.

The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies is a research facility at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The 218,000-square-foot (20,300 m2) building is located on 15th street between RPI’s Playhouse and Academy Hall, next to the Center for Industrial Innovation. The institute hopes the new facility will help to encourage collaboration between experts in different fields, allowing them to solve problems that they would be unable to solve alone. As of 2008, the director of the center is Jonathan Dordick. The building cost $100M.

Ricketts Building is a building that is home to the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. It is named for Palmer C. Ricketts, the ninth president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The building opened in 1935. It is currently used for labs, lectures, and some clubs.

The Jonsson Engineering Center (often simply referred to as the JEC), is home to the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. It is named for J. Erik Jonsson and was dedicated on 7 October 1977.

The Jonsson-Rowland Science Center (often referred to as J-ROWL), is home to the School of Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. It is named for J. Erik Jonsson and Henry A. Rowland. The building was dedicated on 21 October 1961.

The Lally School of Management was founded in 1963 as part of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Its current mission statement is "To bridge management and technology to create sophisticated global business leaders who are prepared to guide their organizations in the conversion of pioneering ideas and analytical insights into innovative products, processes, and businesses."The school is housed in the historic Pittsburgh Building on 110 8th Street on RPI's campus in Troy, New York.
