Diemen railway station

The Jewish Cemetery of Diemen, or Joodse Begraafplaats Diemen in Diemen, is owned by the Jewish community of Amsterdam, which is a subsection of the "Nederlands Israëlitisch Kerkgenootschap". It came into use in 1914 when the older Jewish Cemetery Zeeburg in Amsterdam reached its limit. In 1925 the cemetery was split by a train line. The cemetery can still be seen today by train passengers travelling eastwards from Amsterdam. Field A is the field 1914–1927, east. West of the train line are the fields B, C and D, in use from 1928. Unusual for a Jewish cemetery is the presence of urns, most of which hold the remains of Jews who were cremated at Westerbork during the World War II years. The small Field U, with stones very close to each other, is the field with the urns from Westerbork. In 1958 a large part of the Jewish Cemetery Zeeburg was relocated to Diemen, due to city of Amsterdam expansion (a smaller part was added to the Flevopark). Three fields, all called Field Z, with 28,000 graves and almost no individual stones, were brought over. A memorial stone explains the origin of Field Z. Some smaller stones alongside these Fields Z are placed. Field D still is in use.

The Nescio Bridge (or Nesciobrug in Dutch) is a cycle and footbridge in the Netherlands. This curved, steel suspension bridge, located in Amsterdam, is the country's first suspension bridge that carries only a cycle track and footway, and at almost 800 metres length it is also one of the country's longest cycle and footbridges. Additionally, it is the longest single cable suspension bridge in the Netherlands.The bridge was designed by Jim Eyre of London-based Wilkinson Eyre Architects, in cooperation with two multinational engineering consultancy firms: London-based ARUP group and Netherlands-based Grontmij. The design stands out by using a single, self-anchored cable. The bridge has won several awards, including the 2007 IstructE Pedestrian Bridges Award, the 2007 Arthur G. Hayden Medal from the International Bridge Conference in Pittsburgh, and the 2006 Dutch national award for building in steel (the Nationale Staalprijs).

Diemen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdimə(n)] (listen)) is a town and municipality with a population of 31,334 in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is located approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) southeast of Amsterdam's city centre, within the Amsterdam metropolitan area.

De Meer Stadion (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈmeːr ˌstaːdijɔn]) is the former stadium of Dutch record football champions Ajax. It was opened in 1934 as a result of the club's former stadium being too small. Upon completion, it could hold 22,000 spectators, but accommodating up to 29,500 at its maximum. Over time, as Ajax's popularity and success grew, the De Meer proved to be too small. From 1928 onward, Ajax played their big European games at the Olympic Stadium. The larger venue also hosted Ajax's midweek night games, since the De Meer was not suited for floodlights. The De Meer was abandoned with the opening of the purpose built Amsterdam Arena in 1996, which is now called the Johan Cruyff Arena. The Dutch national football team played five international matches at the stadium, winning all of them. The first one, on August 22, 1973 was a qualifying match for the 1974 FIFA World Cup against Iceland (5-0). The last one, played on 25 March 1992, was a friendly against Yugoslavia (2-0). The final match at De Meer was an Eredivisie game in which Ajax hosted Willem II on 28 April 1996. The home side won 5-1 with Finidi George scoring a hattrick, but the final ever goal in the stadium was scored by Willem II striker Jack de Gier.Following the club's departure, the De Meer was demolished to make way for a housing development. However, the area is commemorated by having the new streets named after famous football stadia from around the world. The centrespot was recreated cosmetically as the real centrespot was built over.

Amsterdam Science Park is a science park in the Oost city district of Amsterdam, Netherlands with foci on physics, mathematics, information technology and the life sciences. The 70 hectare (175 acre) park provides accommodations for science, business and housing. Resident groups include institutes of the natural science faculties of the University of Amsterdam, several research institutes, and related companies. Three of the colocations of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange are at the institutes SURFsara, NIKHEF, and Equinix-AM3 at the science park. In 2009, the Amsterdam Science Park railway station was by opened then-mayor Job Cohen.

Research institute AMOLF is part of the institutes organization of Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). AMOLF carries out fundamental research on the physics and design principles of natural and man-made complex matter. AMOLF uses these insights to create novel functional materials and find new solutions to societal challenges in renewable energy, green ICT and healthcare. AMOLF is located at the Amsterdam Science Park.AMOLF used to be part of the Dutch Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM). On 31 December 2016 FOM integrated in NWO.

Amsterdam University College (AUC) is a public liberal arts college in the Netherlands with an enrolment of about 900 students from more than 60 countries. All teaching is in English.The college was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam and the VU Amsterdam with a particular focus on the natural sciences. Although AUC has its own campus, students can also use facilities of both parent universities. The college is part of a recent wave of university colleges in the Netherlands which have introduced liberal arts education to the country.AUC offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in the social sciences and humanities and a Bachelor of Science degree in science, which are pursued by about 50%, 15%, and 33% of the student body, respectively. The curriculum is strongly interdisciplinary; within each field, students have to pursue at least two disciplines. AUC further emphasizes its 'academic core', which makes up a large part of the curriculum.

Diemen Zuid (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdimən zœyt]; abbreviation: Dmnz) is a railway station is located in Diemen, a city to the southeast of Amsterdam. The railway station is served by Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) services as well as line 53 of the Amsterdam Metro.The station was first used as only a metro station operated by GVB in 1977. This was one of the original metro line's in Amsterdam and is route 53 Centraal Station to Gaasperplas. In 1993, the Nederlandse Spoorwegen railway station opened at Diemen Zuid. This was as part of the Zuidelijke tak (South section) of the Ringspoorbaan in Amsterdam — this is the present-day line between Schiphol and Weesp.

The Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (abbr. CWI; English: "National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science") is a research centre in the field of mathematics and theoretical computer science. It is part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and is located at the Amsterdam Science Park. This institute is famous as the creation site of the programming language Python. It was a founding member of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM).

Nikhef is the Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics that performs research in particle physics and astroparticle physics. Amongst others, it is a research partner of the CERN institute in Switzerland, and is a collaboration between Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), University of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Radboud University, University of Groningen, Maastricht University and Utrecht University. The current director is Stan Bentvelsen. Nikhef is located at the Amsterdam Science Park in Watergraafsmeer in the Netherlands.NIKHEF is an acronym for Nationaal Instituut voor Kernfysica en Hoge-Energiefysica (National Institute for Nuclear and High energy physics). This acronym is no longer used and the name was changed to Nationaal instituut voor subatomaire fysica (National Institute for Subatomic Physics). The name Nikhef is preserved to maintain name recognition (now with only the N capitalised).It also was the host of the third website in the world, starting in February 1992. Nikhef is also one of the eight colocations of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange.Stan Bentvelsen is the director of Nikhef since December 1, 2014.

Amsterdam Science Park is a railway station in the borough Amsterdam-Oost in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The station lies on the Amsterdam–Zutphen railway between the railway stations Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Diemen. The station serves the Science Park Amsterdam and the Watergraafsmeer, as well as Amsterdam University College and the Science Park campus of the University of Amsterdam. The construction of the station started in June 2009 and it was opened on 13 December 2009 by Amsterdam Mayor Job Cohen. It is one of the fast moving railway station.
