Spackenkill () is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 4,123 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area. Spackenkill is in the town of Poughkeepsie. Children in the community, if they attend public school, go to the Spackenkill Union Free School District. An IBM plant is also located in this community, and many of its employees live in Spackenkill. Several informal neighborhoods exist within the Spackenkill community such as Hagantown, Nassau, King George, Beechwood, Crown Heights, and Kingwood Park. These neighborhoods contain some of the schools of the Spackenkill School District.

It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area. Crown Heights is in the town of Poughkeepsie.

Spackenkill High School is a 9-12 public high school part of the Spackenkill Union Free School District located in Poughkeepsie, New York, United States. In 2018, it was named a National Blue Ribbon School, one of 62 high schools nationwide to be so recognized that year by the U.S. Department of Education. In athletics, Spackenkill has won three state championships: baseball in 2005 and 2022 and boys soccer in 2007.

Locust Grove is a National Historic Landmark estate located on US 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie, New York. The 200-acre park-like estate includes homes, a carriage house, ice house, trails, a flower garden, and vegetable garden, and it overlooks the Hudson River from a bluff. The property includes a home designed by architect Alexander Jackson Davis for Samuel F. B. Morse, the inventor of the telegraph. An Italianate style mansion, it was completed in 1851. The estate is open to the public, tours are offered, and the site is used for weddings and parties. It includes a museum, nature preserve, antique exhibits, and a gallery showing artworks.

Bananas Comedy Club are two venues for stand-up comedy: the original founded in 1986 in Poughkeepsie, New York and the other opening its doors in 1988 in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. Top comedians in the business have stopped by throughout the years including Jackie Mason, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Rita Rudner, Jamie Foxx, Tim Allen, Brian Regan, Jeff Dunham, Sinbad, Caroline Rhea, Pat Cooper, Paul Reiser, Tommy Davidson, Rich Vos, John Pinette, Jim Breuer, Robert Klein, Patrice O'Neal, Bobcat Goldthwait, Glen and side kick Barbara and many more. Both clubs are still open as of September 2009. Kyle Barnet and Brandon Michael hosted their weekly show “Another Day, Another Set” from 2007-2010. Jimmy Fallon first stepped on a comedy stage at Bananas. His mother had told him about an impression contest, so Fallon came up with a routine about a commercial for troll dolls. He ended up winning the contest and after college he began touring the country.Chris Halef recorded his album No Liberals Allowed at the Poughkeepsie location.

Van Keurens is a hamlet in the town of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York, United States. It was established by Matheus Van Keuren in the eighteenth century. The Van Keurens lived in Kingston, New York, but Matheus owned a foundry on a parcel of land on the Hudson River, close to what is now IBM, in the community of Spackenkill. Matheus forged at his foundry at Spackenkill many of the links of the chain used during the Revolutionary War as part of the Hudson River Chain around Fort Montgomery.The hamlet is now partly a wooded, unpopulated area between IBM and the Clinton Point Quarry owned by Tilcon, Inc., and part of land that rests on a Spackenkill residential community known informally as Crown Heights.

The Kimlin Cider Mill is located on the east side of Cedar Avenue in the Town of Poughkeepsie, on approximately two acres of land. A mid-19th century barn forms the core of the cider mill. The Mill was part of a larger agricultural property owned and operated by the Kimlin family since the family first came to this country from Ireland in the early 1850s. A commercial cider business at this site in the 1880s. During the period of 1925–1935, Ralph R. Kimlin began the work of expanding the old barn to include not only the cider mill but also a public attraction including a cafe and a museum room. Mr. Kimlin greatly altered the original form and composition of the old barn. He filled the museum room with old farm tools, wildlife taxidermy, Native American artifacts, and other curiosities. For most of the 20th century, the Kimlin Cider Mill operated as a producer and retail outlet for apple cider. Its popularity with local residents, particularly the area's schoolchildren and students from nearby Vassar College, prompted Ralph R. Kimlin to embellish the exterior of the building and to create indoor spaces for the enjoyment of his customers. The property surrounding the Mill soon became a park. Mr. Kimlin also raised a sizable flock of sheep in the pasture behind the mill with the hopes of preserving the traditional farm life that was once an integral part of life in the area, but which was already beginning to disappear at the time. The Kimlin Cider Mill closed its doors in 1990. On February 20, 2008, the cider mill and remaining 2 acres (8,100 m2) of the farm were purchased by Cider Mill Friends of Open Space & Historic Preservation, Inc., a grassroots citizens' group formed in May 2000, which became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in January 2001. The mission of the Cider Mill Friends is to protect open space and the historic resources in the Town of Poughkeepsie through restoration and advocacy programs and land acquisition. Through the efforts of the Cider Mill Friends, the Kimlin Cider Mill has been listed on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places and designated as a Town of Poughkeepsie Historic Landmark. Poughkeepsie ( pə-KIP-see), officially the Town of Poughkeepsie, is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 45,471. The name is derived from the native term Uppuqui ( oo-POO-kee) meaning "lodge-covered", plus ipis meaning "little water", plus ing meaning "place", all of which translates to "the reed-covered lodge by the little water place", or Uppuqui-ipis-ing. This later evolved into Apokeepsing, then into Poughkeepsing, and finally Poughkeepsie.The area includes a large IBM campus noted for its ongoing development and manufacturing of IBM mainframes.

Maple Grove is a historic estate located at Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York. The estate consists of eight contributing buildings: the main house, farmer's cottage (c. 1850), barn (c. 1850), carriage barn (c. 1850), garage (c. 1850), shed, and two cottages (c. 1830). Also on the property is a pair of contributing sandstone gateposts (c. 1850). The main house was built in 1850 in the Italianate style and remodeled in 1891. It is constructed of painted red brick and has a 2+1⁄2-story, three-bay, main block flanked by 2-story, three-bay-wide wings. It has a large, 2-story rear kitchen wing. It features a prominent 1-story open wood porch.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Thompson House is an historic structure located in Poughkeepsie, New York. Built c. 1880, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 26, 1982. The private residence is considered to be in "excellent" condition.

Milton station is a disused train station located on Dock Road at the Hudson River in Milton, New York, United States. It is a frame rectangular structure built for the West Shore Railroad in the late 19th century. Passenger service ended in 1959. The station survives with the Highland Falls station as one of the few extant West Shore Railroad passenger stations. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 2007 as the Milton Railroad Station. It has been used for tastings by a local winery, and a community group is renovating it to serve the Town of Marlborough as a community center.

The Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery is a rural cemetery located in Poughkeepsie, New York and includes the gravesites of several notable figures. It also has a crematory. The forty-four acres of land used for the cemetery were purchased by Matthew Vassar.Some of its architectural features were designed by J. A. Wood. His work includes the cemetery gates and gatehouse, the Frost Mausoleum, and a monument for Matthew Vassar's nephew, John Guy Vassar.
