Mi'ilya

Me'ona (Hebrew: מְעוֹנָה, lit. 'Refuge place') is a moshav in northern Israel. Located between Ma'alot-Tarshiha and Nahariya, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 974.

Ma'alot-Tarshiha (Hebrew: מַעֲלוֹת-תַּרְשִׁיחָא; Arabic: ترشيحا, Taršīḥā) is a city in the North District in Israel, about 20 kilometres (12 miles) east of Nahariya, and about 600 metres (1,969 feet) above sea level. The city was established in 1963 through a municipal merger of the Arab town of Tarshiha and the Jewish town of Ma'alot, creating a unique type of Israeli mixed city. As of 2021, the city had a population of 22,315.

Mitzpe Hila (Hebrew: מִצְפֵּה הִלָּה, lit. Hila Lookout) or simply Hila is a community settlement in northern Israel. Located in the western Galilee hills near the Lebanese border, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 562.

Nahal Kziv (Hebrew: נחל כזיב) (lit. "Kziv stream") or the Horn Valley (Arabic: وادي القرن, romanized: Wadi al Qarn) is a 39-kilometer long perennial stream in the Upper Galilee, Israel. During the winter, rainfall fills the channel, and springs along the riverbed add to the flow. Currently, Mekorot (the Israeli national water company) pumps the water of the river's principal spring, Ein Ziv, and supplies it to the residents of the Western Galilee, making the channel between Ein Ziv and Ein Tamir an intermittent stream. On the southern ridge overlooking the valley sits a 12th-century Crusader castle, Montfort, the old headquarters of the Teutonic Order in the Holy Land.

The Ma'alot massacre was a Palestinian terrorist attack that occurred on 14-15 May 1974 and involved the hostage-taking of 115 Israelis, chiefly school children, which ended in the murder of 25 hostages and six other civilians. It began when three armed members of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) infiltrated Israel from Lebanon. Soon afterwards they attacked a van, killing two Israeli Arab women while injuring a third, and entered an apartment building in the town of Ma'alot, where they killed a couple and their four-year-old son. From there, they headed for the Netiv Meir Elementary School in Ma'alot, where in the early hours of 15 May 1974 they took hostage more than 115 people including 105 children. Most of the hostages were 14- to 16-years-old students from a high school in Safad on a pre-military Gadna field trip spending the night in Ma'alot. The hostage-takers soon issued demands for the release of 23 Palestinian militants and 3 others from Israeli prisons, or else they would kill the students. The Israeli side agreed, but the hostage-takers failed to get an expected coded message from Damascus. On 15 May, minutes before the 18:00 deadline set by the DFLP for killing the hostages, the Sayeret Matkal commandoes stormed the building. During the takeover, the hostage-takers killed children with grenades and automatic weapons. Ultimately, 25 hostages, including 22 children, were killed and 68 more were injured.

Yeshivat Ma'alot Ya'akov (Hebrew: ישיבת מעלות יעקב) is a Hesder Yeshiva, founded in 1975 in the town of Maalot following the Ma'alot massacre. The Yeshiva is named after Rabbi Dr. Ya'akov Herzog, son of the late Chief Rabbi of Israel Yitzhak HaLevi Herzog and brother of the late President of Israel Chaim Herzog. The Rosh Yeshiva is Rabbi Yehoshua Weitzman. There are over 300 students in the yeshiva and kollel. The yeshiva also has a program for overseas students headed by Rabbi Ariel Friedman. Yeshivat Ma'alot is known for its emphasis on learning Torat Eretz Yisrael according to Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook’s teachings. Graduates of the yeshiva have founded four other branches in different locations: Acre (hesder) headed by Rabbi Yosef Stern. Holon (hesder) headed by Rabbi Elazar Aharonson. Ashdod (formerly Neve Dekalim), headed by Rabbi David Gavrieli. The Yeshiva was removed from original location as a result of Israel's unilateral disengagement plan from the Gaza Strip during the summer of 2005. Netiv Tefachot, a post high-school yeshiva where students pursue both yeshiva and technological studies headed by Rabbi Avigdor Weitzman and Rabbi Eyal Griner.

Abirim (Hebrew: אַבִּירִים, lit. 'Knights'), also known as Mitzpe Abirim, is a community settlement in northern Israel. Located in the Upper Galilee, three kilometres from Ma'alot-Tarshiha, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 296. It is located in the middle of a natural oak forest bordering the Nahal Kziv nature reserve.

Ein Ya'akov (Hebrew: עֵין יַעֲקֹב, lit. 'Jacob's spring') is a moshav in northern Israel. Located near Ma'alot-Tarshiha, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 1,215.

Gornot HaGalil (Hebrew: גָּרְנוֹת הַגָּלִיל, lit. Granaries of the Galilee) is a community settlement in northern Israel. Located near Ma'alot-Tarshiha, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 245.

Goren (Hebrew: גֹּרֶן, גורן, lit. Granary) is a moshav in northern Israel. Located in the Western Galilee near Ma'alot-Tarshiha, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 686.

Kfar Vradim (Hebrew: כְּפַר וְרָדִים) is a town (local council) in northern Israel, with a population of 5,531 in 2021. It is situated south of Ma'alot-Tarshiha and about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) south of the border with Lebanon. Kfar Vradim is close to Ma'alot-Tarshiha (2 kilometers), Karmiel (16 kilometers) and Nahariya (20 kilometers). In 2018 it had a population of 5800.

Montfort (Hebrew: מבצר מונפור, Mivtzar Monfor; Arabic: قلعة القرين, Qal'at al-Qurain or Qal'at al-Qarn - "Castle of the Little Horn" or "Castle of the Horn") is a ruined Crusader castle in the Upper Galilee region in northern Israel, about 22 miles (35 km) northeast of the city of Haifa and 10 miles (16 km) south of the border with Lebanon. The site is now a national park inside the Nahal Kziv nature reserve, and is an important tourist destination attracting many visitors from inside and outside Israel.
