Northwoods Mall is a 101-store super-regional 833,833-square-foot (77,465.6 m2) indoor shopping mall located in North Charleston, South Carolina. It is the second largest indoor shopping mall in the Tri-County area next to Citadel Mall. Built in 1972, the mall is located at the intersection of Rivers Avenue (U.S. Highway 52), Ashley Phosphate Road and Interstate 26. Northwoods Mall was the first regional indoor shopping mall constructed in the South Carolina lowcountry and featured Belk, Sears, and the locally owned Kerrison's department stores as its original anchor tenants. A food court offers options such as Charleys Philly Steaks and Sbarro. The mall's anchor stores are Dillard's, Belk, JCPenney and Burlington. Northwoods Mall also features Books-A-Million and Planet Fitness as inline junior anchors. The mall also once housed a Woolworth's but it was remodeled into the food court in 1997. In 1989 the mall closed its small theater in favor of a multi-screen complex located just outside of Dillard's. The mall underwent a significant expansion and renovation in 1985 and Thalhimer's was added as an anchor tenant. Lost in the remodel was a Morrison's Cafeteria located next to Kerrison's.In 1992 Thalhimer's was sold to Dillard's. The store would later be expanded in 2004. Also in 1992, Kerrison's was closed and demolished. It would be replaced by a two-level JCPenney in February 1993 that was relocating from the nearby Charles Towne Square which was beginning a steep decline at the time. Northwoods Mall was purchased in 1984 by Jacobs, Visconsi & Jacobs (later known as the Richard E. Jacobs group), owners and developers of Charleston's Citadel Mall, and later sold to current owners CBL & Associates Properties who again remodeled the mall in 2004. CBL & Associates Properties owned Citadel Mall until defaulting on mortgage payments and losing it to the lien-holder in a foreclosure sale in 2014. In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Northwoods Mall, into Seritage Growth Properties. Sears closed its store in July 2017 and the building was subdivided with half left vacant and half becoming Burlington. Carrabba's is also an outparcel on the Seritage site.

Hanahan High School is a public high school located in Hanahan, South Carolina, United States. It serves grades 9 through 12 and is a part of the Berkeley County School District. The principal is Tom Gallus.

Northside Christian School is a private Christian school in North Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It is a ministry of Northside Baptist Church and was founded in 1975 by Dr. Garth Sibert. Northside has more than 300 students in grades K3-12. There is also a Toddler 1-2 program. There are 786 alumni serving in ministry, the military, education, and in professions such as dentistry, medicine, law, and engineering. Northside is accredited by the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools and is a long-time member of the Tri-County Admissions Council, an association of independent schools in the tri-county area. The school colors are royal blue and gold, its mascot is a bald eagle. "Northside Eagle" is displayed on athletic and school uniforms. The school's Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31.

Charleston International Airport (IATA: CHS, ICAO: KCHS, FAA LID: CHS) is a joint civil-military airport located in North Charleston, South Carolina, United States. The airport is operated by the Charleston County Aviation Authority under a joint-use agreement with Joint Base Charleston. It is South Carolina's busiest airport; in 2023 the airport served over 6.1 million passengers in its busiest year on record. The airport is located in North Charleston and is approximately 12 miles (19 km) northwest of downtown Charleston. The airport serves as a focus city for Breeze Airways. It is also home to the Boeing facility that assembles the 787 Dreamliner.

Charleston Air Force Base (IATA: CHS, ICAO: KCHS, FAA LID: CHS) is a United States military facility located in the City of North Charleston, South Carolina. The facility is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force's 628th Air Base Wing (628 ABW), a subordinate element of the Air Mobility Command (AMC). It is part of Joint Base Charleston, which combined Charleston Air Force Base with Naval Support Activity Charleston.

Joint Base Charleston (IATA: CHS, ICAO: KCHS, FAA LID: CHS) is a United States military facility located partly in the City of North Charleston, South Carolina and partly in the City of Goose Creek, South Carolina. The facility is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force 628th Air Base Wing, Air Mobility Command (AMC).The facility is an amalgamation of the United States Air Force Charleston Air Force Base and the United States Navy Naval Support Activity Charleston, which were merged on 1 October 2010. A joint civil-military airport, JB Charleston shares runways with Charleston International Airport for commercial airlines operations on the south side of the airfield and general aviation aircraft operations on the east side.

North Charleston Air Force Station (ADC ID: M-113 NORAD ID: Z-113) is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located in the City of North Charleston, South Carolina. It was closed in 1980.

On April 4, 2015, Walter Scott, a 50-year-old black man, was fatally shot by Michael Slager, a local police officer in North Charleston, South Carolina. Slager had stopped Scott for a non-functioning brake light. Slager was charged with murder after a video surfaced showing him shooting Scott from behind while Scott was fleeing, which contradicted Slager's report of the incident. The racial difference led many to believe that the shooting was racially motivated, generating a widespread controversy.The case was independently investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina, and the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division conducted their own investigations. In June 2015, a South Carolina grand jury indicted Slager on a charge of murder. He was released on bond in January 2016. In late 2016, a five-week trial ended in a mistrial due to a hung jury. In May 2016, Slager was indicted on federal charges including violation of Scott's civil rights and obstruction of justice. In a May 2017 plea agreement, Slager pleaded guilty to federal charges of civil rights violations, and he was returned to jail pending sentencing. In return for his guilty plea, the state's murder charges were dropped.In December 2017, Slager was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with the judge determining the underlying offense was second degree murder.

Hanahan is a city in Berkeley County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 12,937 at the 2000 census. The 2010 census puts the population at 17,997. Portions of the Naval Weapons Station Charleston, including the Naval Consolidated Brig Charleston, are located in Hanahan. As defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and used by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes only, Hanahan is included within the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan area and the Charleston-North Charleston Urbanized Area

Otranto Plantation is a historic plantation house located in Hanahan, Berkeley County, South Carolina. It was built before 1778, and is a 1 1/2-half story, rectangular gable-roofed stuccoed brick dwelling. It has an attached colonnaded piazza, or porch, on three sides. Also on the property is a contributing small frame servants’ house. In 1934, the house was destroyed by a fire. The house was meticulously restored based upon photographs before the fire. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The 1886 Charleston earthquake occurred about 9:50 p.m. local time August 31. It caused 60 deaths and $5–6 million ($165.88 million in 2021) in damage to 2,000 buildings in the Southeastern United States. It is one of the most powerful and damaging earthquakes to hit the East Coast of the United States.Scientists have classified it as an intraplate earthquake, and said that it had an estimated moment magnitude of 6.9–7.3 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of X (Extreme). Very little to no historical earthquake activity had occurred in this region, which is unusual for any seismic area.

The Christian Coalition of America (CCA), a 501(c)(4) organization, is the successor to the original Christian Coalition created in 1987 by religious broadcaster and former presidential candidate Marion Gordon "Pat" Robertson. This US Christian advocacy group includes members of various Christian denominations, including Baptists (50%), mainline Protestants (25%), Roman Catholics (16%), and Pentecostals (10% to 12%) among communicants of other churches.
