Świerczyny (Polish pronunciation: [ɕfjɛrˈt͡ʂɨnɨ]) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Łysomice, within Toruń County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) north-west of Łysomice and 10 km (6 mi) north-west of Toruń.

Piwnice [pivˈnit͡sɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Łysomice, within Toruń County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. It lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) west of Łysomice and 8 km (5 mi) north-west of Toruń. It is located in the Chełmno Land in the historic region of Pomerania. The village is the site of Piwnice radio observatory.

The Institute of Astronomy: 6  of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, known prior to 1 October 2019 in scientific publications as the Toruń Centre for Astronomy, is an optical and radio observatory located at (53°5′42.9″N 18°33′45.9″E) in Piwnice, about 15 km north of Toruń, Poland. It houses two single-dish antenna telescopes, 32 metres and 15 metres in diameter, as well as the largest Polish optical telescope – 90 cm Schmidt-Cassegrain camera. The facility is operated by the Nicolaus Copernicus University. Also, photometry using 60 cm Cassegrain telescope is made and radio measurements of the Sun at 127 MHz frequency have been recorded on a daily basis since 1958 using a 23 m interferometer.

During the German occupation (World War II), in November 1939, the German Selbstschutz murdered several Poles in the village as part of the Intelligenzaktion.Polish motorcycle speedway rider Tomasz Chrzanowski was born in Lulkowo.
